Simple brand them. Then keep a database like you do for trademarks. Bar codes and rfid would help as well. |

DonCortino: My suggestion would put cost on the owners. The branding is done at your expense. The government just keeps track of who owns brands. They don't need to count everything they just need estimates. Lastly technology through bar codes and rfid would solve this. All the government needs to do is keep track of the information they collect in data base. 1 Like |

I still can't understand why there must be some kind of Federal Bureau or Commission or Agency strictly for cattle. Has cattle rearing become a federal business? Are cattle government property? Why should someone expect federal resources from the Niger Delta to be expended on private businesses? What really is the aim of these useless northern reps n senators that always front their northern agenda in the name of one Nigeria federalism? They use this nonsense to blackmail Southerners and somehow we swallow our agenda and give theirs free rein to our detriment just to claim national unity but to what end really? Since this geographical expression came into being, we've been unable to establish a working database to enable more accurate planning and development as well as aid security of human lives yet all one overfed abőki can think of recording cattle n goats! They claim that foreigners are the cattle rustlers who also attack peaceful communities yet rather than push for more effective policing of our borders and effective identification database to fish out those foreigners, he wants identification n records of cattle instead. If these livestock were penned up n raised in proper ranches owned by private business men, would d cattle not be secure? They could not even conduct 2016 census of human beings due to so called problems of funding yet someone wants to count and identify cattle! Kai! What exactly did anyone say the better south had in common with these neanderthals so much that we had to be coerced into one country? 2 Likes |

Nigerians have to move from the era and age of primitivity and try to re allign themselves with international best practices. This move is rather coming too late and should be wholly embraced. In developed countries of this world, all animals carry passport and identifications detailing history of health, date of birth, travel history of animal and all other vital informations. In addition, digital chips have been recently introduced . This allows for proper tracing of animals and diseases and in our local environment would help to prevent the ongoing herdsmen invasion of farmlands. Animal chips can be used to trace the herdsmen responsible for farm grazing and such individuals either brought to book or forced to forfeit their animals. It is important to note that no European country would engage in the business of buying animals from Nigeria. This is because many diseases affecting animals, some, easily transmitted from animals to humans, which have been successfully eradicated in all other parts of the world, have remained endemic in our dear Nigeria. Need I mention that we lose a significant amount of foreign exchange from that sector? Countries like South Africa, Botswana have embracef and others like Tanzania are embracing these international best practices and striving hard to ensure that these diseases are monitored and eradicated before genetic mutation occurs to make even previously non zoonotic strains become zoonotic. If Nigeria and Nigerians are to make progress in the livestock sector and protect the present day and future public health sector then.......this move is unprecedented, timely and highly welcome. |
