I heard from someone that they are collecting DNA as means to prove maybe the relationship record is real before issuing the Visa..

Nah men. No DNA test needed. Once you have childhood pictures and all, I don't think the test would be necessary.

The process was quite lengthy, your petition has to go through different phases with the VISA interview being the final phase. We were checking ours on one website https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do

So, I was a fairly popular guy in my school area back in Nigeria (not because of any extraordinary feat or something) but because I was to techy guy, the go-to guy when you have any issues with your laptop, phone, Internet or any thing technology. My course of study was nowhere near this field though, it was more like a hobby.

I didn't graduate though. I left my course of study (a professional course) and ran away.

News about my "janding" has filtered round, people whom I don't know have started blowing up my phone lines and social media accounts, even the girls who pretend not to see me have started jumping into my dms.

One thing I've noticed here is that food is everywhere, at every corner, on every street there's an eatery (or something of that nature).

On the first day we got here, we ate out at one Chinese looking restaurant (I think I mentioned that earlier)
It was a buffet-like setting. In my characteristic gluttony, I took a bit of everything and put on my plate

After a few bites of my meal, the sauce from one of the ngwongwo I put on my plate mixed with the whole meal and I had to abandon the whole plate. Went and took another plate and took chicken, chips and fish this time around. Then took fruits later.

I'm rearing to go to the popular eateries like kfc, McDonald, Burger King, etc etc
(Yup, I love food like that)

Settling in


Slowly, my biological clock has normalized. I sleep as at when due and wake up normally. It's been a week (or so) of uninterrupted power supply, uninterrupted internet connection, uninterrupted food and water. One week of feeling relaxed and not getting scared anytime you're in a tricycle (Keke) and an overloaded trailer pulls up beside you; one week of not wondering if your school would lose accreditation when NUC comes knocking; one week of not getting scared that frat boys would come and rob your hostel; one week of not giving a fvck about buhari and his wonderful economic policies, one week of not wondering if things would ever get better. One week of peace!

Do I regret leaving nigeria? Not one bit.

My friends keep asking me why I left my professional course of study to start afresh in the USA. I just laugh and shake my head... If only they knew...

It's a different ballgame living in a western world most esp the US or UK in terms of food, weather, advancement in technology, lifestyle etc. Seems you were studying medicine before migrating. However, you dont really need to pursue a career in the medical field in the States to make good money unless you have a passion for it. I would suggest you delve into computer science or information systems and you will never regret you did, since you already have a penchant for computers. Once you get your SSN, DL and GC you are then "ripe" for the job market lol. Please dont be so excited in getting a job and then grab just any kinda job you find. Some jobs may not be worth doing.. lol. Although, you have to start from somewhere. God bless your hustle!
Please do go back to school asap. That would put you at great advantage in the US. Also, the friends you keep would either make or mal you.

Being someone who has low tolerance for cold, I'm finding it hard to adapt. The snow has been falling nonstop, im afraid of turning up the heater too much so as not to increase mum's bill.

The day we touched down in O'hare international airport, it wasn't snowing. But from the next day onward, I has been snowing nonstop.

I (and my siblings) were fascinated by the sight of falling snow on the first day. Believe me, you have to witness it, with time though, we've gotten used to it.
