Henry240: There, fixed it for you. On to giles14's question; not sure how practicable this is to ships the size of Karaduwa, but Denel literature says this: The 35DPG fires the full range of the effective standard NATO 35 x 228 mm rounds at 1 100 rounds per minute, with a muzzle velocity of 1 175 meters per second. Some Chairborne warriors here are impressed by this sort of meaningless rubbish so...: http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/the-seven-deadliest-naval-close-in-weapon-systems-1568291678 4 Likes

61mech: Always for the cameras with these sorts of exercises. What of my other question re role of Inkunzi PA(w)? While we have you here. |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by 61mech: 5:07pm On Dec 17, 2016 |
1. I would allocate the Inkunzi PAW to the section 2ib running the MAG crew as his primary weapon. Would be very useful for indicating targets for the gunners. SOP: load the damn thing outside my vehicle please. 2. If you are unhappy about replacing your 40mm AGL with the 20mm Inkunzi Strike, just think of it as a replacement for you vehicle mounted 7.62. It can do both. frumentius: 1 Like |

61mech: Weapons Platoon. I think it would be more profitable to seek out the belt fed 20mm on a tripod. a couple "fiddy's" and a couple "20 mike-mikes" running next to some "Yankee-3's" could sure as hell lay down some hurt Goddamn, the riflemen would be pissed because there would be nothing left for them to shoot at. Neo-paw is a meme, a hammer without a nail. |

61mech: Mech or motorised section? Put another way: section de-bussing out of Ratel, Casspir or Mamba? (Aside: delay in Project Sepula has led to questions about proper definitions of mechanised and motorised. Personally, Mech combat assault echelon should be Badger and Ratel - varieted between ICV and upgraded APC. Motorised comprises purely APC in latest CASSPIR in medium role and whatever takes the place of the current Mamba in the LAV role. Logs deserves its own separate discussion, of course.) SOP: load the damn thing outside my vehicle please. Oh, I hear you ! 2. If you are unhappy about replacing your 40mm AGL with the 20mm Inkunzi Strike, just think of it as a replacement for you vehicle mounted 7.62. It can do both. I'm very happy with the Inkunzi Strike. Navy, Air Force, Army (yes, including the Parabats), SF; it represents one of the most "joint" or "inter" services-capable weapons system currently. Will not replace but complement both the Y2 and Y3 grenade launchers. Despite all these new-fangled incarnations of 20mm, there remains a place for 7.62 and 12.7. We've settled the question of the Y2 grenade launcher by placing it in the augmented weapons section. Again, what do we do with the "Bull Pa"? The moment of truth: personally, it should be an [augmented]section weapon. Add an extra man in the MAG? Exigencies have meant we ended up doing this anyway, in Darfur for example. Convoy protection there and concomitant ambushes meant sections were beefed up to 15pax, with same Rifle Group and beefed up MAG. (of course the argument about what transpired in Sudan is a different subject.)

kikuyu1: What about a dismounted section? The flat trajectory of the 20x42mm Inkunzi PAW is supposedly better than the 40mm Y2. So where do you sacrifice? Nota Bene: I have absolutely no problems with the future employment of the Inkunzi Strike - belt fed automatic vehicle mounted (61 Mech optimised !); nor of the Truvelo 20x42mm CMS (hell, the Recces already have it in their arsenal). What does one do with the Inkunzi PAW? Excellent weapon, yes. 2 Middle East countries have bought it, yes. But they're not the crowd to develop doctrine! EU/NATO countries are looking at it as an alternative to the very expensive XM-25, yes. Still doesn't solve the tactical/doctrinal conundrum for the SANDF. |

patches689: needs more dakka Oy Patches689: Enough dakka for you? Belgian Special Forces in their Unimogs in Tchad. They directly copied this from Recces in Angola and yet when we needed vehicles for border patrol, we neglected the SAMIL-derived OTT Hunter (disqualified because...errmm...uhhh...etc) and REVA Scout (a paper concept then etc). Land Cruiser chosen (admittedly the best performer in the tests which included Unimog though not SAMIL) though production line discontinued in SA and local assembly at 75% is costing us more than refurbishing SAMIL 20s. When Ghana SF bought 12 OTT Hunters, some said not a patrol vehicle but SF(conveniently?). When they bought more, and Equatorial Guinea bought 15, I thought Higher might see some sense. Alas, it was too late for us. The civilians at MoD (which is where the Land Cruiser decision emanated) know better. Meanwhile, in January 2017 Belgian Special Forces are coming to test the REVA Scout as a cheaper and better alternative to their current Unimogs (Regardless of frantic inducentments by Mercedes Benz). Someone spell ironic WTF!!! 2 Likes
