Alonso is a good player. He's playing in a team that has the likes of Willian/Pedro/Fabregas on the bench and to me he has done well. Its not just taking on ppl, he defends reasonably well better than Cahill and he also has the height advantage and presence during set pieces.

His drawback is lack of pace mostly, but he is doing well otherwise IMO. Every game, he is involved in key passes, chances or attempts on target. He reminds me of Graeme Le Saux in his slow-looking but methodical approach to creating chances.

Either style of playing (Kenedy or Alonso) achieves results, but peeps should also watch the game with seasoned eyes. Alonso has his own way of making things happen without being explosive like Moses or Kenedy.

Balanced POV. I am yet to see this extreme awfulness that people refer to when they talk about Alonso. In my opinion, I see a very effective player. His technique, positioning/awareness, delivery and aerial presence are key points of his game. Add to that, the fact that he understands his role very well. I think he has done well so far.

I don't believe that Kennedy is better, Kennedy is just a kind of different player - an option.

Even the Diego Laxalt we are being linked is not necessarily better than both.

Defensively....99% of the wingers here are explosive and that's explains why Alonso has been washed and rinsed by almost any winger he has faced.... Whether its skill or pace,he always seem to have no answer

I remember Alonso being a disaster in a 4 man defence against Leicester, Kennedy played that quite well against a team like PSG.....His defensive game isn't bad at all

We've only conceded 2 goals since Alonso entered the team, and we washed Leicester 3-0 playing a 3-4-3, not 4-4-2 so I'm not sure what game you were watching.

The winger I have seen wash Alonso was Dusan Tadic, not even by pace but he was making him dance skelewu using some feints. That side of the team is set up so there are few one-on-ones. Either Matic or Cahill ensure that Alonso is never on his own, and when he is on his own, he shows them inside into traffic. Alonso is doing well abeg.[/b]He works very well in team situation to amplify his strengths. Reminds me of how Gary Neville and Beckham used to work together to be effective despite neither of them having any pace.

[b]Right now, Alonso is more involved in attacking moments than Moses. Not by pace, not by explosiveness but by intelligent runs and one-twos. I'm not saying we can't upgrade, however the dude is doing just fine.
