Supreme55:Madam....I have stated the facts....the roles are clearly defined and have been in practice from time immemorial. And the society is what it is. If you, however, think that a man should be your roll dog in the name of marriage or responsibilities, through a bill borne of arrogance, pride and being destitute of principles, I and the Sultan will vehemently oppose it. Samson, Ahab, Adam are a few biblical examples of men who confused these roles, they paid dearly for it. Sarah called her husband lord and accorded him all respect befitting the title, that did not make her less of a woman. Get it straight, that bill is going to destroy society! 1 Like |

forgiveness: God and Allah might love women and men as they are all children in their eyes. But, they're both sexist. It might have something to do with the fact that they're both men.....sort of. 1 Like |

LordIsaac:come on don't be quick to be on the defensive, let reason this out. It will be impossible for our females to do all what you've listed unless they are given the chance to do so..... its true that am still a youth, but how common I understand this and you the adult don't ![]() 1 Like |

The sultan said the simple truth which can't be disputed universally. Kudos to the real man. Women still have advantage over men on inheritance matters. |

LordIsaac:countries like Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, South Africa, Denmark, Ireland, The Netherland, Germany, Sri Lanka, Switzerland are gender equal countries. has their societies been destroyed? in fact, Iceland is the most peaceful country in the world, and they don't carry religious doctrines on their head like a cap. stop driving the nation backward with your archaic mentality 3 Likes |

udumosam23:on point, if tribes through custodians of our culture (traditional rulers) can throw their weight behind the bill, then it will be left for Muslims to either accept or the country divides, the reason why the bill is still stalling is because some cultures don't allow gender equality, if not, who is the sultan to say a bill should not be passed because one book told them to treat their women as less humans 1 Like 1 Share |

niyihawking:"Archaic, " you may call it. I'm positive your dad and mum are a product of it and they are still happily married(if you are not from a dysfunctional home)! And, by extension, you are sustained by it. If you however choose to deviate from the status quo in the name of comparing your country with "the first world," and the other ridden by apartheid, gay issues and a host of other vices including divorce, to mention but a few, I wish you goodluck. I'll read about its consequence on the family you will make from it on the pages of future newspapers. |

Princess4ng: Please speak for yourself. I'm a woman, a Christian and I fully support the gender equality bill. It doesn't take away the headship of my husband. It is not an avenue for me to disrespect him. The bill has nothing to do with who is the head of the household. Have you guys even read that bill? Half of you sound ignorant. Someone is out there trying to help your life, you're here saying rubbish. If the gender equality bill will enter your head and make you to start misbehaving to your husband, please that's on you. Don't subject the rest of us to your stupidity. Thanks. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Princess4ng: To see this coming from a woman, i weep. Do anyone follows u to ur matrimonial home and tell u to disrespect ur husband? Their are pressing issues on gender equality that needs quick solution, 1) In the north, alot of females children dont go to school bcoz they belong to d oda room and kitchen 2) They are abused sexually and emotionally 3) No one is ready to fight for d ladies, they are on their own 4) They basically have no right to anything than wat their husband command 5) This make them stark illeterate, which in turns leads to many other vices, boko haram comes to mind, child mortality, and countless others 6) I have hausas and Muslims all around me and sometimes, i feel bad for the ladies, though Muslims in other parts are different 7) Child marriage Sometimes, u consider the advantages of something with its disadvantages, God knows, if u disrespect ur husband, u will marry urself, even if u are a traditional religion practitioner, and no court will say otherwise ![]() ![]() 4 Likes |

Recently there was a judgment about Inheritance rights for Ibo women at the Supreme Court. To my mind that judgment makes this bill academic and unnecessary. The debate on this thread also exposes the hypocrisy of some on this thread who argued against the judgment but now want to score points against Islam. It is important to be consistent in our arguments 2 Likes |
