Godstraight:I get your point... But u are mentioning different countries with different religious and social dynamics. This study basically focused on countries that have significant numbers or percentages of both Christians and atheists.... Different groups but under the same social dynamics. That's the optimum setting for a valid research.... And the research has shown that Christians when considered in the same setting as the irreligious are more likely to be racists |

Godstraight: In a sense that if you create a subset of racism, that enclosed mere interpersonal perception and relationships, religious beliefs are elemental to heinous discrimination. 2 Likes |

Humans generally has that tendency to be racist or tribal. We tend to view people who are different from us with less trust. What will make the difference is the fear God. |

akintom: Hmmmmm.. .. .. .. .. your question is deep. Since this is a religious section let me quote a verse: Though I may have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge. And though I may have all faith to remove this mountain but if I don't have love I have nothing. If you are a Christian who obey all the laws and is spiritual but don't love your neighbors as yourself then you don't have the fear of God. |
Re: Religious people Are More Likely To Be Racists by randomperson: 3:10pm On Dec 31, 2016 |
luvmijeje:Religious people fear god. A lot. That's why they are still religious. That doesn't stop them from being racists. The bible uses words like uncircumcised, infidels, unbelievers e.t.c. that creates a we vs them dichotomy in their minds which is identical with the mindset of racism 2 Likes |

randomperson: I'm not a theologist. But in Genesis when God want to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah Abraham intercede on behalf of the righteous. And he told God what if there are 50 righteous people in the place, will you still destroy it? God said No. Abraham negotiated with God till he got to 10 righteous people. But when the angel got to Sodom and Gomorrah. He found only one family who were righteous.. .. . Lot and his family. God's discrimination is between those who believe in him and those who don't. |
Re: Religious people Are More Likely To Be Racists by akintom(m): 3:31pm On Dec 31, 2016 |
luvmijeje:Thank you. Now that you said: the fear of god automatically makes a typical Christian to desist from discrimination, i shall happily then tell you, that it's fear of god that created discrimination. If you fear god: * you will perceive me, an atheist, as gentile, lost, fool, demonic and an enemy of your god. * you will never marry me, in case you're a babe. Even if i have all the best qualities you desire in a man, as long as i am an atheist, you'll NEVER marry me. * you will rather employ a Christian, rather than an atheist, even if atheist is more qualified. You will rather ask holy Spirit to fill up the deficiency of the Christian. You know what? The Bible is a trappy (a snare) book, for Christians who are honest and intelligent. 2 Likes |

akintom: What you wrote reminds of the missionaries who came to Nigeria to build schools. When they came Christianity wasn't prevalence. They opened their doors to everyone without discrimination. There are churches who service the communities without discrimination.. In terms of service God enjoined Christians not to discriminate against anybody. Jesus came because of the unbeliecers. When he was on earth he dined with the unbelievers If he doesn't how's he going to change their mind. Marriage is another level. It Is between you and God. It's an individual decision. |

luvmijeje:Have you tried catching fish without a bait? They taught you what they needed to make you dependent on them and serve their selfish interests without you knowing it. Is it not the same 'nice' folks, that viciously fettered your great grandfather into the most dehumanizing custody (slavery)? luvmijeje:This doesn't nullify the cogent points that i raised earlier. luvmijeje:It was the same Jesus that openly declared that he came to create enmity between folks. akintom: Please kindly quote where Jesus openly claimed enmity between folks. My points nullify every points you raised. You are trying to demonize Christianity and I raised points from the Bible which told us otherwise. If you've preconceived issues and you are not ready to be open minded then I can't help you. |

Charlesdock: Read the topic carefully. It says that religious folks are ' MORE LIKELY' to be racist. I doesn't say that they are racist by default, but their bigoted patterns of thinking makes them more likely to view people of different races in the same way they view and condemn people of different religions. 3 Likes |

luvmijeje:Matthew 10:33 But whoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. Matthew 10:37 He that loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. luvmijeje:The missionaries opened their doors to everyone without discrimination Madame? You are thoroughly misinformed. The missionaries were never altruistic. If you weren't a convert to christianity as a "native",you would'nt,let me repeat that WOULD'NT have been allowed to attend any of their schools |

mablie: http://mobile.nytimes.com/2013/12/28/us/mission-schools-ambiguous-legacy-in-south-africa.html The above is an article on the impart and the shortcomings of missionaries Schools in Africa citing African leaders who are their product. Nigeria public school teaches religious knowledge till today talk less of a school established by a Christian churches. I know a lot of Muslims who are product of Christian missionaries Schools and are still holding on to their religious. Now kindly provide a citation where students were rejected based on their religion or non religious. |

akintom:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. The bolded was the full citation. When Jesus came to earth, did he physically set families against each other? Is there a place in the Bible where Jesus put family against each other? In the Same book of Matt 10:21 a certain rich rich came to him to ask him father I've obeyed all the law what else can I do to make heaven and Jesus said Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. "There is still one thing you haven't done," he told him. "Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." In the same book of Matt of 11:25 At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: "O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. You will never understand God's words until you are ready to submit yourself to him. You want to apply worldly wisdom to his words. You will fail until you accept Jesus as your Lord and personal savior. To those who are genuinely interested in meaning of that passage. Jesus wants you to get to that point in life where nothing matters to you except him. Nobody serve God and the the things you hold dearest after him won't be to him. In John 11:25 he said Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; You can't serve God and regret it. 1 Like |

luvmijeje:This your post clearly illustrates why i don't like engaging theists because many of you are so brainwashed, you find it difficult to understand basic issues. The link you provided for instance, what the hell is that?An "article" with less than 7 sentences? It explained absolutely nothing. My original post claimed,Nigerians (not South Africans) in 1897 were barred by missionaries from attending missionary schools if they were not practicing christians.Back then, missionary schools were free but you(as a nigerian) would only be allowed to attend them if only you were a christian. Years after Nigeria's independence, missionary schools stopped being free and anyone from whatever background and faith was free to attend them as long as they could afford the fees. Now,was that so difficult to understand? One more thing, why do you need me to post links to justify what i state in my posts? If you are so inquisitive about my posts, you carryout your research by yourself I piggyback no one |
