Total Gambia population is 1.9m.

That's 1/4 of Lagos population.

Jammeh is not supposed to be called a President.

He would have been regarded as a village in Nigeria.

Still wondering why he wants to die on something as little as this.

on the flip side

Is this not Territorial infringement of the sovereignty of another Country?

Maybe Buhari Tyranny done upgrade.

I really understand that in way its territorial infringement , but to be honest its high time for AU to have a standby forces, there job will be removing any African leader who refuses to leave office when is time to go. The only opposition i have in what ECOWS is try to do is the leadership. I have problem because a leader has to leader by example, Buhari is not that leader, when you don't have regard for rule of laws no matter the circumstance you don't have any moral justification going to someone to persuade him/her to see reason with the rule of laws.

Nigeria has international obligations as well as national ones. Nigeria will be going in to protect the rule of law and is mandated by ECOWAS.

Forward strategic planning tells us that if we allow this despot to rule illegally. Gambia will become a pariah state and a haven for Islamic fundamentalists and terrorists. Jammeh declared Gambia an Islamic Republic illegally. And in order to stay in power at all costs will align himself with any Islamic power broker that will ensure his stay in power. Such as Isis, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

That will not be good news for us, we know Boko is heavily aligned with Islamic Maghreb and I would not be surprised if Shekau is currently hiding there. Allowing Gambia to become a haven for terrorists and Islamic fundamentalism will impact on Nigeria and the region in general.

Gambia's army is not more than 1200. However, the Nigerian armed forces are heavily lacking in infrastructure. The approach of sending high numbers of troops with basic AK47 will not do. It will result in high casualties and a cause us to become a laughing stock on the international stage.

Britain has been fighting in Afghanistan for over 15 years, with a loss of 405 troops. That is 27 soldiers lost each year, compare that to our casualty figure in Boko haram each month.

If we are sending soldiers they should be properly equipped, so that just the fear of responsive repercussions will restraint any attempts by Gambian rogue forces to engage with our boys.
sorry can u please tell me the number of casualities among the nigerian army since the start of the war on boko haram began and for clarity...i aint against a military intervention in gambia..all i was saying is that it shouldnt be our responsibility to invade gambia we on our own are facing an internal crisis thats long from being defeated...thats's where we should be focused on...we have more than 15countries in ecowas who can handle the job...and as per islamic maghreb myth...weapons, training and recruitment of boko haram are mostly done in mali and libya, the fall of gadaffi created one of the biggest illegal arms trade along that line

The idea that we are refurbishing our outdated 1970/80s armoured vehicles that are not fit for purpose to send our troops into battle with is alarming.

At least soldiers should have at the very least M762 Beryl or the cheaper Bulgarian variants but all with optic sights and as standard. My preference would be the AK74 which we seem to already have.

And certainly not going there in soft skinned pick up trucks please. A good show of forces is a great way to ensure the peace and limit casualties.

I do not know and I know it is not publicised by our armed forces for obvious reasons. But from the number of if officers lost in combat paints a very sad picture.

A few days ago we lost 5 soldiers from an ambush by Boko Haram, which in itself highlights infrastructure inadequacy.

Operation Serval by the French was carried out by 5000 French soldiers who effectively routed the Islamic fundamentalists from Mali in barely 2/3 weeks. To date casualties suffered in three plus years of battle not more than 20.

Ordinary Gambia, why all the Army Battalion?, the Civil Defence Corps and Man O War would have done the job.

Aren't we spreading our forces and resource s too thin at a time such as this? BHT is still unresolved, Niger Delta is steam hot, Southern Kaduna is doing press up, Biafra is putting finishing touches, etc. On top of all these there are bills and bills and Bill to be paid from a economy struggling for oxygen.
Strategically speaking the move is 100 percent ok but realistically I would rather not go with it.

But i still think Nigeria shd be on the spear head of this

We have boko haram fulani herdsmen and NDA. To deal with
What shud be d primary concern here shud be 100% Nigerian benefit
Nigeria shud dont think of getting its citizens out of Gambia pending when d issue is resolved

I still dont see why we shud send soldiers when we have alpt of problems..

What is about to happen is that we want to stake the welfare and future of over 150 million people who need to be helped, in order to assuage the anger of less than 2 million people who only need to rise up and chase a drunken idiot out of town.

People apparently insulting themselves and NL are like 5 & 6 undecided

@topic if Jammeh is forcefully removed it would be the height of illegality and we should not have any involvement in this criminal act, which is covertly being requested by white imperialist and colonial powers who have been sponsoring many coup attempts to topple Jammeh over the last few years without success.

If PMB participates then clearly he has become a fully fledged uncle Tom house negro to his white masters.

# not in my name !

However since the source of this story is Premium Times , there is a good chance that it is untrue.

a country that can not defeat an ordinary rag tag jihadist in sambisa forest, a country like Nigeria that can't even police it territory want to engage a fellow African country with equal military muscle .... dullard buhari must be high on something lately, maybe he have started smoking ijebu weed again , someone close to that clumsy old useless incompetent cowardice clown should tell him that a liter of kerosene is 500k in Nigeria ,for Christ sake he is our oyil minister , south Africa has the financial backing, full support of international allies like NATO , they are thrice richer and civilized than Nigeria, their military personnel are 1st class professional career military men, they produce their own ammunitions locally by themselves, but why are they not policing entire African continent? why do they care only about themselves ? dullard buhari should understand that we are no longer in 80s ,that there is due process. if he dare invade Gambia, their Army will not only make fun of our
ill-equipped soldiers, but there will be condemnation and fully international sanction on Nigeria, last I check Boko haram jihadist are reclaiming territory we need more soldiers in Bornu state than Gambia,
