Nigerian soldiers and airmen in Gambia
For those who want pictures of Nigerian Soldiers in Gambia shown, please bear in mind the following as an indicator SOME of the Nigerian soldiers who are in " THE Gambia" are serious SF GUYS SBS for short, the same type of guys that it is heavily speculated were sent to Ivory Coast, the one important reason why an Airman would cover his face is to hide his identity.
In the coming days it is likely we will see more pictures of at least some of the Airmen, and maybe some of the NN,also i just read ( unconfirmed) that the NN UNITY is now in Gambian Territorial waters..
Finally let me commend the ECOWAS community of Nations for setting a precedent that a sit- tight President after losing a lawful election has been removed from power, regardless of the size of the Country, 14+1 countries came together with an IRON-WILL and a Titanium spine spoke with one accord and got the job done. smiley smiley smiley
Good Job FGN
Good job ECOWAS
Good Job AU
The Template has now been set.
To be reused anytime a sit- tight African President who loses a lawful election refuses to leave.

US OFFERS TO ASSIST NIGERIA IN COUNTERING TERRORISM AND VIOLENT EXTREMISM

The United States of America again has expressed its commitment to provide assistance towards countering terrorism and violent extremism in Nigeria. This commitment was conveyed by the Director, United States Defence Intelligence Agency, Lt Gen Vincent Stewart who led a delegation of US officials and diplomats to visit the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Mshl Sadique Abubakar today at the Headquarters Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Abuja. Gen Stewart was on a working visit to strategic military institutions in Abuja to foster existing bilateral military relations and security collaboration between the United States and Nigeria.

“I am here to better appreciate the challenges and opportunities in Nigeria and to strengthen existing strategic partnership”, he said while expressing the US appreciations for moves by Nigeria towards strengthening democratic principles and human rights. Speaking further, Lt Gen Stewart appreciated the effort and sacrifice of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in the fight against insurgency while commiserating with the leadership of the NAF about the unfortunate incident of the accidental air strike in Rann, adding that the US will be willing to assist the NAF with its investigation in whatever capacity.

Ethiopia and simalia have fought many times before.
After independence, the border war escalated with mainly bandits supplied by somalia and soviet union, to which somalia publickly denied, and Kenya's parliament eventualy voted (according to declasified documents) for the preparation of a full scale conventional war with somalia..... but right before, Somalia president ended up signing a ceasfire agreement with kenya which ended the border war..... but just before that happened, somalia was getting some bad ass weaponry and cash from soviet union (at the time, somalia had the largest and most mordern airforce in eaft africa) and thus Ethiopia and Kenya ended up signing a defence pact to come to each other's aid if Somalia attempted anything on the two nations........... That defence pact has been renewed constantly with every succesive governments thst have come to power from the two countries.. thus nor Kenya or Ethiopia has ever interfered with each other (atleast not publicly) when it comes to each of the two countries dealing with somalia.....

read this.....

It has been 60 years since the Kenya-Ethiopia Defence Pact was signed. Although ostensibly formed by the two countries to protect and come to each other’s aid if either were attacked, at the heart of the treaty was, and still remains, Somalia – their civil-war-troubled neighbour.
Wanjohi Kabukuru analyses its impact and relevance six decades on.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 23, 2017 - The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Kenya for Air Tractor aircraft with weapons, and related support. The estimated cost is $418 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on January 19, 2017.
The Government of Kenya has requested a possible sale of up to twelve (12) Air Tractor AT- 802L and two (2) AT-504 trainer aircraft, weapons package, technical support and program management. The total estimated program cost is $418 million.

This proposed sale contributes to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a strong regional partner who is a regional security leader undertaking critical operations against al-Shabaab and troop contributor to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

The proposed sale provides a needed capability in the ongoing efforts to counter al-Shabaab. The platform maximizes the Kenyan Defense Force's Close Air Support (CAS) ability because it is a short-field aircraft capable of using precision munitions and cost effective logistics and maintenance.

The proposed sale supplements Kenya's aging F-5 aircraft as it will be more fiscally efficient and able to be pre-positioned much closer to the conflict area than the F-5 fleet. The Kenyan Defense force is committed to modernizing its air fleet and is capable of absorbing these aircraft. The proposed sale of this equipment and support does not alter the basic military balance in the region.

The prime contractor will be L-3 Communications, Platform Integration Division, Waco, Texas. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.

Implementation of this proposed sale requires the assignment of at least five contractor representatives in Kenya.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.

This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded.

All questions regarding this proposed Foreign Military Sale should be directed to the State Department's Bureau of Political Military Affairs, Office of Congressional and Public Affairs, pm-cpa@state.gov.

Where is that South-African that loves the AML vehicles. Please can anyone recall his moniker, so I can tag him in this photo.

@Hrmnn

Thank you my boet for posting these. smiley

I was wondering when we would see Senegalese AMLs/Elands in the Gambian standoff.

These photos were actually taken by photojournalist Jerome Delay in Barra, which is directly across from Banjul.
