Please how can I increase breast milk supply? I started giving my ds formula when the pains was unbearable due to cracked and bruised nipples but now the sore nipples are gradually fading away and breast feeding is not as tough as it used to be and I want to stop giving my ds the formula.

Presently I'm on constant pap and kunu
Though it's helping, but when I don't take any of the two, my ds does not get enough breast milk.

Please help

Do u hv a breastpump? Can u try expressing BM and see how much you're actually getting out? Iomoge2 mentioned that fenugreek seeds and bitter leaf soup made with cocoyam helped boost her supply. You can try those
Note: the more u breastfeed/pump, the more your supply

Chei! jazzyjazz you have brought me to this thread when I neva pay dues. I greet olofuna o!!

Yes I have a breast pump but it's manual and the most I've been able to get is 90ml from the left breast when it was engorged (I was giving him the right breast more as that was the first side to heal)

If I pump without the breast being engorged, I mostly get 30ml or 50ml which is small

I don't mind taking the fenugreek seeds. Any idea how I can get it?

How do you know you are not making enough bm? My advice is to keep eating right with lots of fluid. Keep putting baby to breast too cos the more he sucks the greater your supply will be. Cheers

Jazzyjazz, try not to take pap with Milo, I noticed it has not effect in improving bm, take hot watery pap with sugar or add evaporated milk like hollandia, feed him on demand, eat better food and reduce stress. D more u pump, d more it refills, don't mind how much that comes out but i prefer to pump only engorged breasts cos its less painful. Cheers

I only use sugar and milk and the pap is usually watery. I also feed on demand

Because my ds will suck for a while and then push the nipple away and cry. But if I offer him formula at that point, he will be rushing it

I'll keep putting him to breast

@Danzak, guess ur baby is teething gradually, Try get PICCAN (Original) for teething symptoms. But if diarrhea persists, ORS is very important to replace lost electrolytes. Get well soon baby luv

Mix raw Pap about a table spoon and give him, other cereals like oatmeal and rice also helps to add bulk to poo.

Practice optimum hygiene with him to avoid reinfection.

Keep him hydrated at all times ORS is very important! Should the stooling persists past today and tomorrow without any sign of abating PLS TAKE HIM BACK TO THE HOSPITAL.

Hope you've given him rota?

Take him to another hospital ASAP and request to see a pediatrician.

That said, is he bottle fed or breast fed or both? Has he started solids? The problem might be with his drinking water/water used in preparing his meals. Switch to nestle water at least till he fully recovers (make sure you boil it) and ensure all his feeding utensils are properly washed and sterilised after each use.

Teething is not responsible for stooling (over 7 days). There is an underlying condition that should be treated.

In future you can try home made "sugar and salt" solution. Based on my experience (I tried this when my son was 8months old), this method is most effective if the cause of the stooling is down to diet (for example, child has had too much fruits and veg) and it should be used on the very first day (say by the 4th stool).

Boil about 50ml of water. Leave to cool (till it's about lukewarm). Add one tea spoon of salt and one and a half tea spoon of sugar. Mix together and taste it (it shouldn't be too salty or too sweet). Pour the mixture in a feeding bottle and give the child to drink. Get the child to drink at least 10-20ml and you can give the child little sips to drink later in the day.

If after giving the child this solution and the child stools again, please go to the hospital. Stooling in children should never be taken lightly. I won't even wait till the next day as my threshold is 5 poos. Luckily, the salt and sugar mix has always worked for me after the 4th poo.

Thank you @ Liftedhands. I will try your method. Though someone said I should add a little palm oil to his pap without formula and give him for like 2 days. Have you heard of that method before?
As for the Rota, we missed the first dose so I didn't bother giving him the rest or can I still do that?

He only takes pap (homemade) and cereal for now. I use boiled Aquadana or Eva bottle water to prepare his meals. Hygiene is top notch.
Took him to the hospital the second day and when the thing continued, we had to take him to a different hospital on Monday this wk. But the poo is still watery and greenish. Though not as frequent as before.
I guess the sugar&salt solution you mentioned is kind of local ORS. He has been on ORS since the issue started.

Okay.

Since hygiene is top notch and you've been to different hospitals then it's time for some root cause analysis. I can only think of his diet/food.

I think you should stop the pap totally for now and also stop the current cereal he eating and try another brand. That might be the problem.

Coldfeet:
Dip a cotton wool in a saline solution you can get it from a pharmacy! Clean the affected eye wiping once to one side discard and use another wool to wipe to the other end. Do it each time the booger pools in the eyes. You may have to keep an eye on her cos this usually signifies the unset of a cold. If it doesn't go away or becomes red and itchy please take her to see a doctor.
Thanks she is OK now

Yea, I kind of agree with you on that because the last doc we saw said the same thing, in fact, he was sure is from the process of his food preparation to the feeding. But, the thing is that I am a working mum, and I cannot be 100% sure of what happens when I am at work, even after strict instructions to the nanny.
However, he has been taking the pap with NAN1 for like 2 wks before the stooling. The only new thing I introduced was switching from NAN1 to NAN2.
I stopped the NAN2 yesterday to see if that is what he is reacting to.
Thanks a lot ma, for you prompt responses and follow up.

Hello Mamas,

how are we doing today? Pls i need your input on this issue.

I have unequal bre.astmilk supply from my bre.asts. The right br.east supplies more than the left and the difference is very much. E.g. if i express in the morning, I get about 140-150 from the right bre.ast and then struggle to get about 50ml (60ml in very very rare cases) from the left br.east.
I started noticing this obvious difference 3 weeks ago when i had serious engorgement in he left br.east (it took 3 days for the swelling and pain to go away)

Is this normal?? Do i need to boost my supply to see if the left one will balance up?

Thanks

The most sucked breast will produce more milk.
Which breast does ur baby feed often with.
It will give u more milk.

Thank God d engorgement has gone down.try n alternative breast while feeding.

Do not worry abt expressing more.one breast must definitely produce more milk dan d other.

SOS!!! Mothers please i need your help! they (dh n mil) are about to give my 6weeks old baby agbo (concoction). my dd has what Yoruba people call "eila" i don't know what its called in English. please what can i do to clear it off before the agbo arrives. here's a picture of the rash, though it's not very clear. cc zaynie, lifted hands, soonest, onegai, helovesme, and all other mamas please help a ftm out. thank you.
trying agbo if it's genuine is no big deal infact it's better dan cream made with chemical eilais something that comes from within yoruba will say it's dirty blood dat caused it and when ur baby drinks agbo it will flush it away , then use the agbo to bath her will clear it and prevents it from reoccuring

For the past 3days now my 7+ have been having either running poo, slimy poo or a bit hard poo all in one day and poo like 4 to 5 times a day.As at yesterday and today his head, hands and feets are always warm and the rest of the body cool. He is still his happy self and eats well. But what could be the problem and what should be done. I started giving him ORS+Zinc yet no improvement bt he is still on Zinc.
