Advice About Thermostat. by captainking(m): 7:51am On Feb 02, 2017 |
Hi guys.. I use Honda accord 2000, v4....I did not know how thermostat looks like.. But.. Last week... Someone showed me where the thermostat of my car is located.. And I discovered that both wires were joined to make the fan always run... Then I separated both wires and the fan stopped running... Except when I turn on the ac... I asked a kazeem if I should leave it that way(factory settings)I guess... . But the kazeem said it would cause over heating.. I intend to separate the wires so that the fan would only be on when the engine reaches operating temperature or when they ac is on... What's your take on this gurus.. Cc.... Gazzuzz, Kingreign, Mayor123, luvinghubby, honmusa, kashif.. And other car gurus.. |

that device is not a thermostat. It should be a thermistor. I might be wrong, but let's wait for the real bad guys. 1 Like |

captainking:Since you are talking of shorted wires, we are talking about thermistors here. They control fans. Restoring the connection to factory settings is a good move but keep your eye on the temperature guage for the first few trips you make especially in traffic with A/C off. |

captainking:what you are talking about is the thermistor, same thing happened to me and i separated the wires, my car almost overheated till i took i joined the wires and the fan came back on, thrn i had the thermistor replaced and set it back to factiry settings, point is dont loosen the wires if you dont have a thermistor ready cos your fan wont work without the ac on and you risk overheating your car oga gazzuzz hokked me up with one, he should be able to help 1 Like |

captainking:Thermistor is a temperature sensor ,it doesn't control the fan ,what control the fan is the ecu ,the thermistor is just the sensor that tell the ecu when to trigger the fan and also tell the ecu to trigger the fan when AC is on.You will need to see the wiring diagram to understand all this fully . On the other hand ,a thermostat doesn't have anything to deal with fan at all .Its function is to make the engine achieve optimum temperature as fast as possible and the thermostat open when the optimum temperature as been achieved. Then if you buy your car as used ,you will notice that the fan is always directly connected .This is the handiwork of kazzem and their crude approach to overheating issue . Running the fan direct and removing the thermostat in a bid to remove overheating will cause more evil . So it you meet your car in this condition of running fan direct and thermostat removed .Don't be in a hurry to go ahead and put thermostat and connect the fan to default setting (or else your car will overheat) First ,investigate the reason why the car is overheating (the tool you will use is beyond the reach of ordinary DIY ) and if the issue has been resolved then you can go ahead to connect fan to manufacturer spec and put thermostat. |
