The public culture and acceptance of these yellow, wornout buses combine to demonstrate how low we fell as a people. And how mediocre and defeatist we became as a people.
I know with this move by Ambode, vultures will start gathering to feast on the plan.

....as evident by some ridiculous comments on NL for starters

three: :
There are ENORMOUS opportunities for Public Transportation in Lagos (simply because of the numbers viz economies of scale)

The Yellow buses should indeed be phased out but...

1. The replacements must be Ergonomically sound and ultra safe (no side oriented seats etc).

2. Lagos needs a special kind of vehicle that can access inner city roads (the kinds of roads that Okadas and Keke Napeps ply, why? Cos then we can get rid of those - They are NOT safe).

3. This vehicle should be able to accommodate an optimum number of seats and standing places.

4. If possible propulsion should be via hybrid fuels.

5. The buses do not need conductors.

6. They can be operated via franchises that are integrated into a cross platform infrastructure - One should be able to use a 'touch card' on any vehicle across the state. The drivers will be guaranteed a minimum monthly income.

7. Opportunities will then exist for online real time travel information - you can stand at the Bus Stop and know when the next bus is due...

etc etc etc

PS

With regard to 'economies of scale' and on a totally unrelated topic I seem to recall a former governor stating that Houses cannot be 'Affordable' because there is no 'Affordable' cement or 'Affordable' Iron Rods - guess he has never heard of 'Economies of scale' let alone comprehend the concept.

Your recommendations show u don't live in Lagos. You sound more like someone in London. If you stay in Lagos u will know dis Is mere noise Ambode is making.Yellow buses convey a lot of people because they cut corners and can change route if passengers are availabe for elsehere other than their route. Government buses and bureucracy won't let it operate even at optimum level due to hirachy of operations. And our government lacks maintanance culture.

...and your interpretation of his recommendation shows that even though you live in Lagos, you're seeming lacking in comprehension of issues at hand and his recommendations
1. There are currently no government buses, nor has Ambode said there will be any
2. What bureaucracy has prevented the BRT from operating at optimum level. Some of your just throw words, What is "hirachy" of operations?
3. What maintenance culture is government responsible for in the new scheme?

It is obvious that in the Lagos state you are obviously ignorant that
1. Govt is just a regulator via LAMATA and do not own a single bus
2. Consequently govt is not responsible for maintenance, neither "hirachy" of operations

Fashola campaigned by giving okada riders free helmet.. when he became gov, he banned them.

Ambode.. I remember his theme song.. Ambo ooo Ambo popularly advertised with danfo bus.. now he is about to dump them..

Click like if you feel these govt is a use and dump govt.
Click share if you think government truly think of the massess in their decision making.

For the record those in Ikorodu don't drive because the road that would have been expanded was used to create lawn for BRT
My car is more convenient than a public bus that I will have to wait on a queue for close to an hour on a Monday morning to get a standing position and stand all true Lagos. It is cheaper no doubt.

If you had made a sensible comment you will not be asking for "likes" and "share". Your comment is daft

I do not need to go through your profile. One senseless piece is enough to show your lack of substance. At least you saw some opposing view that were articulated sensibly and such generated credible discussion

Bros,

Once the initiative is executed, it is going to be an all inclusive. First off, the "conventional" motor-parks where their is "chairman" and "Agbero" will be replaced with an organised, private sector-driven bus parks. "Agbero" would be replaced with stewards whose "daily collection" (and I doubt if that will still exist) will be to private company.

Secondly, we need able bodied men like the Agberos to go into skill acquisition and training so that they be useful in factories as Lagos is fast become a hub of production factories

I like your insight but have chosen to tilt a little from your opinion. The NURTW a.k.a Agbero we re talking about re just "Executive Hoodlums" which me and you both know can only be flushed out from Lagos roads/bus-stops. They re already used to free unaccountable money that am 100% certain that they won't enrol for any form of training.

Moreover, we can't shy away from the fact that this hoodlums re politically affiliated to the government that be in Lagos state and so can not be eradicated.

The transport scheme is quite impressive, am just scared it won't be a fal back to the initial status quo.

Even tho I am not in government, some of my suggestion will be

1. Hopefully professionals are engaged to manage the change process. For example the change could be phased, say remove them from Ikorodu road (Ikorodu Round-about-CMS route) after 6 months do same in other defined route
2. The current Danfo Drivers, just like was done in the BRT scheme will be asked to organise themselves into a collective (Union) and float a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). This SPV will then be one of the operators of the scheme. So the Danfo drivers still get to keep their jobs. The conductors and Agberos could be employed as Ticketing officers, Park control officers and other ancillary services.
3. I think this service will not only eradicate agberos, it will show how more money can be made in a more effective and efficient Transportation Business. Other states will soon come and replicate it

brilliant suggestions I must say. I support the that the change process be done in phases as this will give the Government room to appraise their performance and see where modifications are necessary rather than an outright enforcement.

I just hope the process won't be hijacked.

oga governor,
it is only a baby of 6months old that would not know the underlying factor why you want to replace the danfo.
tinubu had a lot of work to do so he did it and also saw a lot of ground to steal money so he stole. he showed fashola
fashola racked his brain to loot, saw so many place to work, he worked and saw so many places to steal, so he stole
you came and saw very few places to work, you started working and now work don finish and you need to steal and so you are now looking for where to steal. you no smart, na bus you wan to replace, what of creating jobs for the millions of jobless youth, building houses for the poor and then you can see where to steal, na danfo you want to replace.
na the same smartness that you exhibited when you stole under fashola that he sacked you that you are now using. abeg you know smart
