dejavus: If you don't mind me asking, for my knowledge, how did you figure out these panels were of inferior quality? |

EgunMogaji: Hey! The tariffs could only be justified if the local capacity to manufacture is increased by the provision of enabling environment for local factories. There is no roads to most cheap lands producers might want to set up factories, while power remains a constant headache, security for far flung operations is non existent. If I provide my own roads, my own power, and my own security, how cheap will my products be? That's why I preach for enabling environment before the tariffs. 1 Like |

@spidder thanks so much, who is me to argue with my ogas here and outside here, poor man like me, I just tried to point out just simple things, me also I don't like to condemned what people do, so i can't do what I dislike to others. Proudly Nigeria. Let's keep the hope alive 2 Likes |

Good morning Can experts in the house brief us on the types of external doors and the best type to get for the average person. Thanks in advance. 1 Like |

spyder880: Spot on. Government slapping a tariff before this would be putting the cart before the horse which is not unusual in Nigeria anyway. |

dejavus: I understand where you are coming from the problem is that for most Nigerian vendors their word is not their bond. There is also a highly rated vendor recommended by a few people on this thread who tried to pass inferior products on to me, if not for my eagle eyed uncle who is managing my project he would have succeeded. Although he rectified it , he has lost my trust because I will not be using him again added to the fact that he delayed my project for 3 months. It's frustrating when it's difficult to trust people. 2 Likes |

ice4u999: It was quite simple, he was meant to supply panels with open circuit voltage of about 36volt but when tested was around 21volt and more so when you count the number of solar modules in the each panels it was about 36 which means a 12V panels but the sticker on the panels clearly says otherwise. https://www.altestore.com/blog/2015/10/how-do-solar-panels-work/ I did my research and did not find a single product from Sharp "supposedly" matching the product code he gave me before the items were delivered even though my instinct was screaming to walk away I was thinking to myself... Trust this guy, Sebi we spoke on the phone and he sounds trustworthy blah blah blah... The rest is story. 2 Likes |

EgunMogaji: I support buying mad-in-Nigeria as well but on one condition: It must not be an imitation or fake of the imported version. If it is made in Nigeria, stamp it boldly on it "MADE IN NIGERIA" I would also expect that we dont ban what we dont produce at all or produce in a quantity not enough for our local consumption because that creates unnecessary scarcity and attendant increase in price. In "System Implementation" methods, there is a method where you gradually phase-out the OLD...while gradually introducing the NEW system. Lastpage! 1 Like |

dejavus: TRUST is the most expensive and scarce item, when dealing with any Nigerian, ....not to mention a Nigerian Contractor/Business person! GREED has overtaken our sense of dignity and integrity! Some will even use Religion and the Holy Books (Walahi-talahi or "I am a Christian" slang!) to swing you off balance while deep in their heart, they know they are scoundrels! Lastpage! 1 Like |

spyder880: You said well! @the bolded! "Personal Ego" is also another major factor in decision making! Some spend such money to rub their ego........... and it is not in the place of the service provider to dispute or challenge that. "He who pays the piper, dictates the tune". Lastpage! 1 Like |

lastpage: After the invasion by Japan, the Chinese had no option on imported goods, compared to say the Brits and it's vast armadas of that era. But look where they're at today. As I discussed before on one of your thoughtful posts, Nigerians are still far too comfortable for our measly national income. If we're on bread lines, like the USA was during the depression, then we wouldn't even be debating some of these luxuries. 1 Like |

dejavus: This is why I smile whenever some vendors and artisans on here post from the point of view of vendors. Most of us as clients knows better. It's a battleground rife with improvised fraud techniques out there. For each Spyder880, Skimanski etc that we've come to rely on over here as trustable entities, there are 100's untrustworthy ones out there. 3 Likes |

spyder880: And some of us don't even want tile. It seems like Nigerians are equating tiles with class, just like they do duplexes Give me a stained concrete floor and a few Persian rugs and I'll be a happy camper. 3 Likes |

spyder880: My chief, please spend some time reading the history of our loved china You'll see how spoiled we are as Nigerians. Two weeks ago I drove past ewekoro near Ota. The road is deplorable and the cement factories, who probably damaged the roads, can't fix it. I guess they're waiting for the government even though they have the building industry bent over with an empty Vaseline jar. 1 Like |

marylandcakes: Now knowing what I know now, I would forgo local crafted doors and instead buy Chinese or turkey doors in decent and affordable price range. This is just my opinion from buying 4 local doors and 3 imported ones in the past 3 months. |

marylandcakes: Unfortunately I did not price exterior doors. My recommendation is to set apart a day and hit a few stores on your own without your builder. I do know a brand called Virony was mentioned. |

We have a problem in Nigeria, where we do the collective thing of doing the same with whatever we do. Be it cars, building or fashion why can't we have diversity in everything we do must we always follow the status Quo (Fela comes to mind "follow Follow syndrom") 4 Likes |

desiji: The biggest challenge I have had on my project is changing this mindset of "this is how we do it here". I have to constantly explain that Nigeria is not on Mars and the environment here is not that much different from Spain or Texas or Florida. |

EgunMogaji:My thinking exactly i live in a country where the impossible is never accepted till there is no alterantive and i have tried to implement it always in whatever i do, but the mindset of our people ehn ! that one is a terrible challenge same with my build you will tell them something they will start arguing with you |

EgunMogaji: I am bloody well precise with what I want, why do people think everyone who walks into their shop doesn't have a mind of their own? You darn well be sure I know exactly what I want to buy before setting out, what makes them think I will listen to their ill-informed advice at the shop when they go .."Oga this one is the better quality....." am like ....yeah right. There are probably a lot of uninformed customers but still, most sellers/marketers or service providers (builders etc) think they always know what is right for the customer. I always emphasize and reiterate my requirement and agreement over and over again. Some call me petty but that is based on an agreement. Example: If I agree with a builder to start work at 10 am, I don't expect them to start at 12 pm unless I have been informed beforehand. I like to give people a very long rope and they might as well hang themselves with it. If a potential service provider approaches me on the basis of religion, rest assured I will no longer continue with that transaction. This is a purely business transaction and has nothing to do with God, if your services/product are genuine, there is no need to drag God into it, for me it's as simple as that. I am more conscious dealing with religious people that less apparently religious ones. 6 Likes |

EgunMogaji: There are so many paint manufacturers in the country that owners of almost all builds I have seen knowingly and happily use Nigerian made paints. Again there is the issue of quality so always ask for sample before committing to purchase. Any serious manufacturer will oblige. A general observation is that there appears to be a shade of difference in quality between the mid and large companies that use machine production/mix and the smaller entrepreneurs that use hand mix. There are a few decent ones here who are not shy of showcasing their products. |
