The Truth Of Biafra, A Call For Peace. by Nobody: 10:38am On Feb 19, 2017
Good morning fellow nairalanders.
As a Student Studying English language in one of our courses titled Nigerian Novel. We are to study the following era in Nigeria literary development: the precolonial, colonial, post colonial, pre civil war, civil war, post civil war, oil boom, contemporary times era.. our studies captures this wide areas...

recommended text are about 20 Nigerian novels.

During my study of Half Of A Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and The last Duty By Isidore Okpewho.

Half of a yellow sun captured my mind, so I searched for the movie to establish my knowledge on the Biafra saga + the civil war effect.

It's clear to say other Nigerians were not comfortable with Igbo leading almost all agency of the government and the fact that an Igbo man was the vc of a university of Lagos also made other Nigerians see the Igbo's as possessing the spirit of dominating/subduing other Nigerians. this brought unrest to the spines and marrows of other Nigerians yet they all lived in peace though in pretence.

In Adichie's half of a yellow sun she clearly display this unrest as Olanna is approached by a man in the airport who show's her a paper about the removal of the Igbo vice chancellor from the university of Lagos and he continues to lament that Igbo owns all shops in Lagos, controls the economy, the police and when you are arrested once you can say "Kedu" in Igbo you are allowed to go free of crimes committed.

Hence, It's clear the Igbos and other Nigerians were not comfortable with the Hausa government of that time, but only the Igbo's were brave enough to voice out and show there true stance/discontent without pretending to be Happy.

While at odenigbo's house. The news of the coup meant a sign of relief, it meant the end of corruption, it meant the end of Hausa political domination. none the less it was considered an Igbo coup as mostly those killed where non Igbo's.. another tragedy abound..

other Nigerians were in pains, losing their political heads, spiritual heads while the Igbo's were at peace and ease. celebrating the coup and mockery of the deads of other Nigerians. another tragedy... this brought about hatred for the Igbo's by other tribes...

Ironsi brought about the unitary system again their by making power centralized adding to the existing woes..

The North which is already suspicious of the Igbo's started the pogrom. massacring igbos in Kaduna, Zaria and kano in thousands making general ojukwu to declare Biafra.

If for anything I am not Igbo, but I feel the pain of the millions of lives lost during the civil war, the pain, hunger, the agony and frustration. abduction of women, raping of women even children were not spared.

The gory wickedness is enough to make generations seek Biafra like the generations of today. I do not blame the youths after hearing painful stories like this I would seek the same.

My call for peace... please there is no place we all can call home apart from Nigeria, we must not allow selfish politicians push us the path of war again.. let's embrace each other. let's bolt hard the knot that binds us..

I love the Igbos and respect their wish and call but together we are stronger divided we fall like heaps of dry leaves.

May the soul of the innocent children, Fathers, uncles and Auntys countless of whom lost their lives in the civil war rest in peace..

God bless the Igbo Nation.
God bless Biafra
God bless Nigeria
God bless us all.

Since they banned the study of history in Nigerian schools to mask the treachery of a particular western tribe and the suppression of the truth about events leading to and happened during the war and after, you will need to listen to Nnamdi Kanu to educate you about Nigerian history.

This is why they locked him away to hide the truth. cheesy

We yoruba muslims don't like people talking about history, it will dismantle the lies we've built against the East and make people refuse to trust us. Let us forget about history, enjoy our yoruba cooked lies and unite under one nigeria to move the country forward. grin grin

Point of corrections
we have a place we call home & that is Biafra but not Nigeria as you said.

You should be specific and direct your advice to the hausa, Fulani's and Yoruba's to follow the part of peace because they kill peacefully protesters.

Yes politicians has deceive us to be in the contraption called nigeria since 1914 till date & now we say its over we don't want any more.

God didn't create us to be together so we can be together.
or is it by force to be together.

So direct your plead to nigeria government.

We all must join hands lets keep nigeria one
keeping nigeria one is a task that must be fulfilled by hook or crook. Even if it involves the blood of us all, our children our future and our destiny we must sacrifice them all to preserve the shape of nigerian map.
Luggaurd is our god and personal saviour and we must forever worship him for giving us infallible nigeria. Not even GOD can break up Nigeria.

Anybody that opposes this is a foolish liepod.

Because you and your opinion are just like few grains of sand in a desert...
His emotion, want and desire doesn't revolve only on nairaland...

You also should also take your plea to the outside and pester them to make amends (implement the 3Rs or outright confederation system implementation)...

You can't just continue to act the same way and expect a different result, have your plea ended the quota system? Do your plea acquit NK, or did it put Igbos in juicy positions in Nigeria's forces and offices?

As you can see your pleas is not the problem but the system in which the country is running on.

Each day i wake up to face the disapointment and the reality that Lord Lugard's mistakes cant be undone. He amalgamated 2(3) distinct regions who share nothing in common for his and his clueless queen's selfish interest.

Peace preachers arent enough to curb the menace of tribalism and religion bigotry. Just lke youve rightly pointed in your post: this problem started way back in time.

We need strong ideologies, vission and great institutions to fight this disease called tribalism.

Yes of course. The killers of my brothers hasnt been punished even those that send them hasn't shown any remorse and your saying that I'm bittered.
You can't kill my brother for nothing & tell me not to be bitter.
The only thing that can wipe our bitter is referendum & Biafra restored.

So if you want peace with out equal right & justice then what you want is not peace but something else.

Your talking about Gowon, what of the ones committed by buhari laid government of today in Aba, Onitsha, asaba and most resent in PH.

The truth remains that nigeria can never be one because it not one as simple as that, we can never retreat on Biafra even if were defeated on referendum, we will prepare for another referendum. But I know we can't be defeated.

You have to preach to buhari gov.& co to toe the part of peace because they are the ones killing us.

we don't want peace but equal right & justice.

My prayer every morning, afternoon and night for buhari is, may the fate of those innocent igbo youth cut shot by buhari and his soldies be his potion, may the pang of death locate him anywhere he is hiding. May the judgement of GOD be quick and swift upon him. May the blood of the innocent igbo youth wasted on streets of se continue to cry vengence upon him, may their soul and spirit continue to torment him until he seazes to breath. My the air that he breath, the water that he drink be acidic to his nostril and poinson to his system. And may his family murn him thesame way the families of those igbo youths murned theirs.

NT. I only wished him what he wished my people and nothing more.

As a neutral, regarding the topic (even though I know it's a hot potato), I am still yet to be provided with an adequate explanation as to why political actors had to be murdered during the first coup. Everything went downhill after that first coup, and judging politicians by today's standards, the politiciains then were saints, okay, maybe, saints harbouring prejudice!

Furthermore, it was a bit politically naive to assume that any European colonial power would let any region within the artificial boundaries of countries they formed assert independence without the colonial power sanctioning it, I think this was a massive mistake. Especially as under Ikemba, it would have been viewed with suspicion and also from the perspective of a military dispensation.

The so called 'Nigerians' killed themselves to the tune of over 3 million souls in other to be together. More civilised people would say "conduct a referendum and choose who wants to be Nigerian and who doesnt

Sadly, a lot of Nigerians would actually support another war, to keep Lord Lugards creation going

Really? It will be hard to convince an Igbo like me about that because 'one Nigeria' has cost my people over 3 million souls. But guess what? After all that, Nigeria is no better than the day Ojukwu declared Biafra.
