The bottom line is that he had a poor season out on loan at Granada, Bordeaux and Aston Villa.
Blaming his failures on injuries won't help you in this debate because he was as fit as fiddle and never got off the bench at Aston Villa grin
He was also fit on his return to Liverpool where he was relegated to their kindergarten team grin

I've proved beyond ALL REASONABLE DOUBT that his transfer to Reading including add ons and bonuses was pegged at 3M just like his transfer from Lisbon was worth 7M including add ons and bonuses which he failed to cover grin

If you still argue that they made a gain on his transfer, I will comfortablely play the 50% loss on investment card grin

Granada want Tiago Ilori on permanent basis

Sporting's defender Tiago Ilori during the Portuguese league football match SL Benfica vs Sporting CP at Luz Stadium in Lisbon on April 21, 2013

Last Updated: Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 12:29 UK

Granada sporting director Juan Carlos Cordero has hinted that the club want to sign Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori on a permanent basis.

The defender is currently on loan at Granada from Anfield, where he moved from Sporting Lisbon at the start of the season.

The 20-year-old has impressed in the early stages of his La Liga career, with Cordero claiming that he would like to make the move permanent.

"He's shown the experience he gained in Portugal and he's adapted very quickly to the team. He will keep growing as a player and is an option for us to assess, if the right circumstances are there," he told reporters at a press conference.

Facts! Facts!

Chai! Tiago Ilori playing against one the bests strikers in the world. They won that match by 3-2. grin grin

Hehehehe! That's your opinion and I think your are entitled to it, which is is not necessarily true and valid. grin

Now, read Liverpool's verdict. grin

TIAGO ILORI PROGRESSING NICELY ON LOAN AT BORDEAUX grin

Tiago Ilori Progressing Nicely on loan at Bordeaux
Liverpool’s highly rated central defender, Tiago Ilori, is now beginning to blossom at Bordeaux after a tough start to life on loan in Ligue 1.

A hamstring injury back in October against Reims, that consequently saw him miss around two months, curtailed what had been a decent start to his loan spell.
grin

Ilori Progress

Since his return from injury, however, the Portuguese’s performances have been rather encouraging, as he continues to justify why Liverpool were so keen to acquire him, and paid £7 million to do so grin.

While he’s been partnered with multiple central defenders for a variety of reasons since coming back, including fellow Liverpool target Lamine Sane, Nicolas Pallois and Cedric Yambere, it’s been important to note Ilori has been a constant. His form has been solid too, something that’s obviously been greatly helped by the fact that he’s remained fit. grin

Obtaining playing continuity is vital for any footballer’s development, and in Ilori’s case, it’s fantastic to see him reaping the benefits of getting vital top flight minutes.

Playing against the likes of PSG, Saint Etienne, Guingamp and Toulouse this season will act as a terrific stepping stone for him in his quest to be a mainstay for Liverpool in the future. shocked shocked grin

Lining up in his now-customary position on the right side of central defence against Lens on the weekend, the 22-year-old produced another very positive display. tongue grin

Up against Lens’ physically imposing forward Adamo Coulibaly, who really is a brute of a man, Illori stuck to his role nicely, successfully limiting his impact shocked grin.

On many occasions, the former Sporting prodigy beat Coulibaly in the air and even held up well in battles of strength, but the area in which Ilori absolutely dominated related to sheer pace. shocked grin

He made certain that Lens had little joy playing balls in behind Bordeaux’s defence. Despite their relatively high line, the unbelievable covering speed and anticipation of the youngster almost completely nullified this avenue of attack for the away side.

Even on the odd occasion where a ball went over his defensive partner Yambere, by using his speed, Ilori would ofen motor across and kill the move. On 40 minutes a perfect example of this arose. Here, after Pablo Chavarria had broken through in behind Yambare, it looked as though the Argentine was clean in. It wasn’t to be. Thankfully for Bordeaux, Ilori charged across the field to execute a precise sliding tackle to knock the ball out for a throw in and save his team. grin

It was a magnificent piece of action, and one that illustrated just how good he is physically. He can leap, he’s fast and even quite strong despite his slender frame, and when combined with the fact he’s 190cm tall and only 22 years of age, he undoubtedly ticks almost all the boxes required in a modern day centre back. shocked grin

Intriguingly, and on a side note, he unsurprisingly still holds the record for the fastest 30-metre sprint at Sporting.

The youngster, also, showcased his ability to take up excellent positions and make good decisions – with and without the ball.

Hardly ever caught out in this contest was Illori, for he positioned himself intelligently enough to cope with any situation. He stayed goalside when tracking markers and didn’t step up and lunge into tackles overzealously. The maturity he showed when addressing the problems ahead of him, and in dealing with them in a calm and composed manner, was a real highlight.

Seeing as Lens often looked to move the ball down the flanks and whip crosses in for Coulibaly, it was impressive to note just how well Ilori dealt with these situations. As mentioned above, his concentration and awareness to remain goal side and keep track of his man was wonderful. This, in turn, meant that the languid figure was so often perfectly situated to clear and cut out crosses. The whopping 11 successful clearances he made depicted his effectiveness aptly here.

Whenever Bordeaux look to facilitate their attacks, their fullbacks Diego Contento and Mariano always have a key role in providing width for Les Girondins. So with this prerequisite in place, the covering work Ilori undertook was crucial in allowing his right fullback, the marauding Mariano, to motor upfield freely. It also gave the Brazilian peace of mind knowing that Ilori would cover his man, Lens left-winger Baptiste Guillaume, if a turnover occurred.

On the ball, the elegant stopper exhibited that fine passing range he possesses. While he often opted to play simple passes into Bordeaux’s deep-lying midfielder Gregory Sertic, his accurate long balls, horizontal and vertical, illustrated delightfully his quality in possession. This facet of his game should mean that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has little hesitation when integrating him in next season – if he chooses to use him.

The technical quality of Tiago hit us,” mused Bordeaux manager Sagnol on this. shocked grin

Statistically, his numbers are rather impressive for Bordeaux too, and consist of him averaging 2.2 tackles per game, 2.7 interceptions pg and a colossal 6.1 clearances per game.

The former Granada man recently commented on his desire to return to England and to have an impact. “My long term plan is to play and win titles for Liverpool Football Club. The team they are building can be huge, and I want to be a part of that.”

All things considered, this wildly talented Liverpool loanee really does look to have a bright future ahead of him. The idea of a future central defensive pairing of Mamadou Sakho and Ilori is something that’s gaining traction, and could well become a reality sooner rather than later. We’ll just have to wait and see what Rodgers’ plans are for this very gifted defender.

The way you conveniently twist your narratives is astounding. The next World Cup is next year, not four years.

So if all our best players are 32, we should drop them for teenagers because they are old.

What happened to let all of them come to camp and we choose the best?

I am not twisting the narrative. I wonder where you got that from. I have always advocated for younger players. I clamored for Aluko because he brings something different in the game today. He also won't be considered Old by our next tourneys.

If we had a younger player who could bring what Aluko brings, I will wholeheartedly clamor for him.

CAF Presidential Election: Pinnick Can Vote For Any Candidate - NFF

By Augustine Akhilomen

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick has received serious backing from the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the board, Hon. Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, with regards to the forthcoming election into the presidency of the Confederation of African Football.

The former Delta State Sports administrators had earlier in the week called for a change of power in the CAF seat, thereby urging the current CAF president, Issa Hayatou to step down in a bid to allow for other fresh candidate to handle the affairs of the Africa.

In a statement credited to Yahaya-Kwande in thenff.com, he pointed out that the NFF are in support of Pinnick’s choice of casting his vote for any of the two CAF Presidential candidates.

“The issue of which of the two candidates the NFF should support came up during our last Board meeting in Abuja, on Tuesday 7th February 2017. Every single member of Board spoke on the issue and expressed support for the NFF President, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, to use his discretion and vote for that candidate who will best serve Nigeria’s interest during the election.

This support was given based on the fact as the NFF President and a Member of the CAF Organizing Committee for the Africa Cup of Nations, he is fully in tune with the political play at that level and knows what would be best for Nigeria.

“There was not a dissenting voice in the room that day. Everyone agreed that Mr. Pinnick should go ahead and cast his vote for the candidate he feels would support Nigerian Football to grow the way we want it. It is not correct for anyone to say the matter was not discussed.”

“The Board spent good time discussing the CAF elections and the importance of Nigeria having someone on the CAF Executive Committee, considering the huge role that our nation has always been playing in peace –keeping and sundry noble programs on the continent.

“There is no division in the NFF Board. We are giving full and unconditional support to Mr. Pinnick to stand for the elections and for him to cast his vote for that candidate whose presidency of CAF would serve the interest of our great nation.”

The 39th Ordinary Congress of CAF, at which the elections would take place, comes up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in exactly three weeks’ time.”

Moses Targets 25th Appearance For Chelsea Against Swansea

Super Eagles winger, Victor Moses will be seeking to earn his 25th appearance for Chelsea as they welcome Swansea at Stamford Bridge in Saturday’s Premier League early kickoff.

Having scored three goals in the Premier League this season, the former Wigan star, whose football career has changed under manager, Antonio Conte, will aim at putting Swansea to the slaughter slab.

Saturday's fixture represents just the 33rd time in which these two teams are facing each other in a competitive fixture, with Chelsea recording a win on 14 occasions in comparison to seven victories for Swansea.

Thirteen of those matches have come since Swansea earned promotion to the Premier League in 2011 and while Chelsea have won almost half of those meetings, they have gone three contests without success.

Reports: Ranieri Sacked For Playing Ahmed Musa Ahead Of Demarai Gray Against Sevilla

According to various reports monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com online editor, manager of Leicester City Claudio Ranieri was fired by the club for playing Ahmed Musa ahead of Demarai Gray in their UEFA champions League game on Tuesday.

The decision to sack Ranieri came as a surprise to many but club sources revealed he was fired after the game against Sevilla, due to his team selection for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash.

The story which has gone viral in various news outlet in the United Kingdom, has it that Ranieri decision to hand Musa a start ahead of Gray didn’t go down well with the decision makers at the club, particularly after Musa’s poor performance which lead to his substitution.

Gray who took the place of the Nigerian, put in a better shift than the big money buy from Russian side CSKA Moscow. He added spark to the attack which lead to the away goal which they scored in the 1-2 loss.

Full Story – How Leicester City Players Told Owners To Fire Ranieri For Playing Musa Against Sevilla

Claudio Ranieri’s decision to start Ahmed Musa instead of the in-form Demarai Gray in Seville on Wednesday bemused senior Leicester City players, who raised their concerns about the manager in a meeting with Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, the club’s owner, in the Spanish city yesterday morning.

The distance between Ranieri and his squad had been growing all season, partly due to a frustration in the below-par quality of some of his signings since the club won the Premier League title, such as Musa, tweaks to life at the club, with chicken burgers taken off the menu, and also his constant tinkering with the team.

Some of his substitutions were strange, especially those against Millwall in the FA Cup on Saturday when Ranieri removed Gray, sending on Jamie Vardy, which made sense, but leaving on Musa, who was struggling. Ranieri also sent on a full back against Swansea City.

But it was Ranieri’s decision to play Musa in the vital Champions League round-of-16 first leg on Wednesday, leaving Gray on the bench, that really tested the players’ patience. It occupied their thoughts beforehand when they should have been focusing on the game. Gray is highly regarded in the Leicester dressing room, has done well in training, has given impetus when arriving off the bench, while Musa has looked bereft of confidence.

A £16 million signing from CSKA Moscow, Musa looked all right in pre-season but has laboured since. He was particularly poor on Wednesday, partly culpable for Seville’s first goal by failing to track back with Sergio Escudero and lacking influence in possession.

Gray’s arrival energised Leicester, and Ranieri was applauded on the night for making the switch in the second half, but in the cold light of day yesterday, the Italian’s decision to start Musa was mentioned again. The Thai owners had stayed loyal to Ranieri, releasing a statement a fortnight ago backing him, but faced with signs of dressing-room dissent, they acted. Dilly ding, dilly gone.

Moses Simon, Esiti, Rabiu & Kalu To Battle Ndidi’s Former Club In Europa League Round Of 16

The draws for the round of 16 in the Europa League has been made and the Gent, home to four Nigerian players have been drawn against Genk.

The game between Gent and Genk will be a local derby as both teams are based in Belgium, more importantly for Nigerians is the fact that as many as four Nigerians could take part in the clash.

Anderson Esiti, Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu have all played for Gent in the Europa League this season, but Rabiu Ibrahim is yet to hit full fitness hence his lack of action in the tournament while William Troost-Ekong wasn’t registered by the club.

Gent pulled through to the round of 16 after beating English side Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 on aggregate following a 2-2 draw at Wembley last night.

Genk where former Super Eagles ace Wilfred Ndidi use to play before his transfer to Leicester City secured their spot in the round of 16 at the expense of Romanian side Astra Giurgiu following a 3-2 aggregate win.

Musa Yahaya Didn’t Surprise Me Against Man United, He Will Be A Star At Porto – Teammate Predicts

Musa Yahaya fine performance for FC Porto B against Manchester United U23s didn’t come as a surprise to his fellow Nigerian and teammate Chidozie Awaziem.

Yahaya put up a man of the match display which helped Porto dump the English side out of the international Premier League Cup, and also qualified his team for the semi-finals.

While his performance took many by surprise, Awaziem says he is well aware of the abilities of the 19 year old, hence he wasn’t surprised that he was un- playable against Manchester United.

” Musa Yahaya will be a star at FC Porto, yesterday performance didn’t come to me as a surprise, as a matter of fact that is just half of what he can do”, Awaziem told Owngoalnigeria.com.

Ike Ugbo Scores, Ola Aina Disappoints As Arsenal Thrash Chelsea U23s In Premier League 2

Chelsea U23s suffered a heavy 1-4 loss to their Arsenal counterparts in a Premier League 2 game decided at the home of the Gunners.

Arsenal fielded a strong team with first team players like Danny Welbeck, Carl Jenkinson, Rob Holding and goalkepper Emiliano Martinez all starting for the Gunners.

Meanwhile Chelsea fielded two Nigerians in Ike Ugbo and defender Ola Aina, and the Anglo Nigerian duo endured mixed fortunes during the course of the game.

Aina failed to inspire the Chelsea backline as they conceded two goals in each half while Ugbo, who is well known for his goal scoring abilities didn’t disappoint when he had the chance to reduce the deficit for his team.

Ugbo poked home a rebound from a well hit drive from Musonda which Martinez spilled into the path of the 18 year old forward, who now has 12 goals for the U23s of Chelsea.

Reports – Ex Man City & Inter Milan Boss Mancini Not Interested In Managing Musa, Ndidi & Co At Leicester City

Former Leicester City player Roberto Mancini has reportedly turned down the chance to manage the Premier League champions according to various reports in England.

Mancini was heavily tipped to replace sacked manager Claudio Ranieri but the Italian reportedly told the club he is not interested in the job.

Even though he is without a club since leaving Inter-Milan last year, the former Manchester City coach is not keen on handling the club where Nigerian duo Wilfred Ndidi and Ahmed Musa ply their trade.

The Premier League champions are presently one point above the drop zone, and lost the first leg of their round of 16 UEFA League clash against Sevilla 1-2 in Spain on Tuesday.

Wolfsburg Coach Gives Key Update On Victor Osimhen Injury Status

The coach of German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg has provided an update on the condition of Nigerian teen forward Victor Osimhen, who is recovering from a minor surgery.

18 year old Osimhen was tipped to make his Bundesliga debut this year after reaching the professional age to play senior football as a foreigner, but injuries have so far denied him the chance to impress.

Top scorer at the last U-17 World Youth Championship, he recently posted pictures of his return to training for Wolfsburg, but it appears his injury situation is still a concern.

Ahead of their clash against Werder Bremen coach of the team, Valerien Ismael revealed that the forward was among three players who didn’t train ahead of the Friday night clash.

” Aside from Ashkan Dejagah, Ismail Azzaoui and Victor Osimhen ( He should be fit to join the squad next week) , the complete squad are in training”, the manager revealed at his pre match conference.

Sunday Oliseh Extends Unbeaten Run As Coach Of Dutch Side Fortuna Sittard With Win Over Emmen

Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh guided his Dutch team Fortuna Sittard to a 3-2 win over Emmen to extend their unbeaten run to five games.

Oliseh’s team are yet to taste defeat in the month of February starting from the 2-2 away draw against Dordrecht, which was followed by a 5-2 win over Ajax II before another away draw with Cambuur.

However they have picked up back to back wins in their last two games under Oliseh with victories over Utrecht II and the latest win over Emmen.

The victory also moved them further away from the drop zone as they are now 16th on the second division table, with 30 points after 27 games.

Since taking over the troubled second division side as coach of the team, they have only suffered one defeat under Oliseh, which was the 0-2 loss to Almere City in January.

Granada wanted to make his move permanent yet they didn't even bother to extend his loan spell grin
At Bordeaux he did so well in his paltry 12 games all season yet he returned to his parent club and played almost zero games grin
What happened at Aston Villa nko? Beckenbauer Ilori wasn't even dressed for a match grin

Compare him with Casemiro who went on loan to Porto, returned and won a shirt in the Madrid team.

His deal to Liverpool was worth 7M, in fact daily mirror claimed it was about 8M grin

Liverpool make profit on Tiago Ilori as Portuguese defender completes Reading move

Liverpool have sold Tiago Ilori to Reading for £3.75million
The former Sporting Lisbon centre-back has failed to make the cut with the Reds in his three years at the club
Tiago Ilori has completed a £3.75million move to Reading – which means Liverpool have made a profit on the Portuguese defender.

The 23-year-old signed for the Reds in 2013 for £3.5million from Sporting Lisbon, with bonuses potentially taking the deal up to £7million.

The clubs agreed a deal last week with Liveroool cleverly agreeing a 25 percent sell-on clause in the contract, report the Liverpool Echo.

The centre back moves to the Royals to aid their promotion push, with Jaap Stam’s side currently third in the Championship.

Olympiakos, Eintracht Frankfurt, Freiburg, Valencia and former loan club Granada were all reported to be interested in signing the 23-year-old.

Liverpool though did not want the centre-back to head out on loan again and instead wanted £4 million for the unwanted player.

But as the Mail report on Wednesday afternoon, interested clubs failed to match Liverpool’s asking price.

Granada wanted him either on loan or permanently but Liverpool refused because Granada failed to match Liverpool’s asking price. Chikena! grin

Not only Granada ooooooo. grin

Oga! Stop telling lies. grin

Real price of Tiago Ilori Liverpool transfer revealed, including weird sell-on clause

Jordan Chamberlain

Tiago Ilori
It turns out Liverpool didn’t actually pay £7m for Tiago Ilori, if the increasingly infamous footballleaks page is to be believed.

They’ve published the intricate details of many transfers involving Spanish and Portuguese clubs and there have been no objections that there substantiations are wrong.

And with Ilori, it appears Liverpool actually paid just €4.8m for the former Sporting youngster, which translates as £3.6m, with the rest of the fee only included after certain clauses were met.
