I should think so. If u search thru cic thoroughly i doubt you will finnd any other for work permit. When you look thru the form, you will have the option of selecting open work permit and once u select that it automatically turns off all other questions. Your study permit you will b attaching to the application and marriage certificate is what then makes it a spousal work permit. Furthermore, if you notice cic never gave instructions on how much you will require for open work permit ans you will see that bank statements or proof of funds ia not a compulsory document. Your explanatory statement is the deal maker or breaker + God's grace off course. But it's generally advisable to have funds to show ur spouse can live for a worst case scenario if he doesn't get a job. So d funds to show is entirely up to you.

According to my observation here, i think paper route is faster than online application.

@Mbogi, no embassy will keep ur passport for 2 to 3 years.

Hi everyone here, I have study visa and I will be traveling soon.
I was only engaged when I was filling my online application and I filled it as such, just early this year, I got married.
Gurus in the house,will our marriage certificate be fine to apply for my wife sopw considering the fact that I filled engaged when I was submitting my study permit application online then.

Marriage certificate is fine, actually that's what you need for SOWP, I advise you to also attach pictures to the marriage certificate

They don't have your passport until they have process your application.

What I'm saying is that paper application is the slowest application process that is why lawyers always advise to renew/extend work permit with paper application because it will take longer time to process and you are allowed to continue working until a decision is made.

Well for paper application you drop your passport alongside all your supporting documents. Unlike the online route which u just scan your passport.

I submitted my original passport along with that of my kids via paper route. When my husband applied for his study permit that was also what he did. You will be asked to come pick up your passport when a decision is made. For those who applied online, they will request for their passports when a decision has been made.

When you say you indicated on your online application that you were engaged, i'm not really sure what option you chose as your marital status.

Anyways, if you got married before your study permit was approved (while your application was still in process), please let IRCC know before you leave Nigeria.

If after approval you got married, also let them know before you leave Nigeria.

That should have been a better option, the problem is there's a high rate of refusal for visit visa. It also take some three months to apply within canada. I really don't know why processing times increased this much as at early last year btw Jan and feb to be precise it was 51 days. This will all end in praise amen!

It's only a speculation for now, it's not official yet, it's not cancelled yet this is what I heard from immigration lawyers discussion, thay have it on the table for consideration because Canadian are complaining that we are coming in and taking their jobs, that was why they came up with LMIA with high application fee, the next step is to cancel the whole program, I don't have a page or link to show you but people are talking about it.

Following from the trend. Paper application has been faster than whatever you see quoted as processing times. I am aware that you can request for your passport if you need it before a decision is made but I am not sure how it works yet. Whichever way, once you submit your original passport and you do not request for it before a decision is made, It will remain with them till they are done processing, however long it takes.
