First time commenting on this thread, but franknetter incase u see this..
Please back out of that decision to return home. To do what exactly? In this trump era?? Please are u not more than 18yrs? Do not accept that decision because if u do, I dont think u can ever pull urself together to do med in Nigeria. Try talk to ur parents again. If they say no, u have no choice than to leave that house and be on your own. Go and rent an apartment and continue with ur job in the US. Save up, Start life there, man up dude, take charge of your life.. Decide on the career path u wanna choose in the US and have a blue print to pursue it. But please do not yield to their decision oo if not you will regret it.
My own 2 cents.

@Franknetter You can consult a credentials evaluation agency(I have forgotten their name)to evaluate your transcripts for a possible transfer to a medical school in Chicago. You are on greencard and not citizenship and under American law if you stay outside u.s for particular number of months it will be revoked automatically meaning that you will have to start the whole process all over again.Contact an immigration lawyer there to confirm what I just said.

There is too much uncertainty in Nigeria. As you said, it's no telling when and if you will ever graduate due to all the unknown s in Nigeria. As mentioned already, you will still need to do your residency (4 years or more I think) in the US if you happen to get your medical degree outside the US. So, considered all these issues before making the decision to go back to Nigeria.

Correct. A green card holder can not stay outside the US for more than 12 months at a time. So if you go back to Naija, you have to come back to the US every year.

I have some sad (not bad) news.

My extended family (all settled here in the USA) think it would be better for me to complete my medical school program in nigeria. "You have your greencard, you can always come for holidays" they say. They don't know what I've seen, what I've encountered. This saga has dragged on for a while now, they have boxed me into a corner and bribed me into submission. As a young man, I hate dealing with uncertainty, how can I not know my expected date of graduation? Will I study medicine till I die? sad

In the long run, it would be a good deal though. No student loan to pay back, no messed up credit score to stop my dreams. But right now, my question is "why nigeria"? Of all the countries in the world, why nigeria?

It would take a while for me to get used to this.

Study the terms of your green card carefully. Prolonged absence from the US could render it canceled and this has happened to some.

https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/after-green-card-granted/maintaining-permanent-residence#abandoning

FWIW, I vote for returning to Nigeria to further/finish your studies if that is inline with your life plan.

@FRANKNETTER Thank you for this thread, I actually read every comment on this 40 page thread, God bless you bro
but I will say, to me oo, you should have finished med school first before leaving oo, Nigeria is a Hell yes we agree, but it's actually the cheapest place to get a professional education before emigration ,Getting a Medical Degree in US is Money,a lot of Competitions,Huge Student loans etc You and I know how much Medical professionals rack in per month in the US. and you can't compare Jobs like Medical Doctors, Dentist,Nurses and Pharmacist with ANY Computer or IT JObs.Except you never had the passion to be a Doctor though . Am a student Dentist still in medical school here in Nigeria , am finishing Next year December by God's Grace, my Dreams is going to US to have my chains of Dental Clinics.
I wish you all the best my brother! the God that did yours will do mine when am ready to leave the Zoo in Jesus Name.
This man is very wise and exposed!! kudos man

Hello frank! have been a secret follower of the thread! nice job though! Am a Nigerian Doctor here is NC! @Osahon7 has taken the words of my mind so I guess I really don't have much to say!! You may want to go back and read some of his comments! abandoning your medical school in Nigeria for the US trip was a very wrong decision if you really had a passion to be a Doctor!People say getting a admission into Medical school in Nigeria is tough but here in the States is SUPER HARD AND DIFFICULT! You've got to have excellent high school grades, excellent Undergraduate grads as well as "GOD'S FAVOUR" to get in!
you complain of not knowing when to graduate in a Nigerian University, medical school in Nigeria is 6years Officially but it's actually 8 years(with or without strike depending of the school) Isn't that the exact duration you spend here? 4 years Pre med/ Dent and another 4 years med school proper??
I have a friend that took same decision years ago, he abandoned his med school in Nigeria with the Hope of starting over in Canada, on arrival, he became so frustrated with the system that he eventually went to a technical school and he's now working in a technical coy

Even me that that had my medical degree in Nigeria, it hasn't been easy trying to hustle my life here as an Immigrant not to talk of coming with no degree!
who said you can't work with a Nigerian degree here?? for Medicine all you need to do is to write the USMLE and apply for a NON COMPETITIVE speciality for residency! get done with it and start your life!
you only need a US Degree if you are a Dentist.
as regards your family's decision to going back to Nigeria, here is what you should do, "MAN KNOW THY SELF"
let them know your stand! if you ain't interested in Being a doctor, you've got to tell them straight up! they may allow you stay! else, it's never too late bro!
https://anpa.org/

that's The website of the Association Of Nigerian Physicians In America! look for the anpa chapter closest to you contact any member of that chapter for guidance and advice!
all the best

Lol @ ajegunle...Am in St John's, NL! You're saying it as it is bro, it appears to me some people just have this conventional default knowledge of the US, UK and the likes without putting into consideration changing times and what is obtainable in those places at present...People need to start spreading their tentacles and update real quick...

Already getting used to the weather though, this is actually my second winter here...Like you said, the weather should be last thing to worry about...Will send you a pm when the time comes to do the proper switching...

As for my guy asking for school with affordable tuition, you can look all these schools up:

UNBC
UNIVIC
SFU
UNIVERSITY OF REGINA
UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN
UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA
MUN
UNB
BRANDON UNIVERSITY

Bro. Good day been reading up your comments and i'm thrilled. I've always wanted to move canada if I decide to move but i'm being discouraged by their tuition. Do any of the schools you listed above accept part payment of tuition and completion when I arrive canada and resume studies with part time work?

What can u tell me about australia? Some agent here already gave me the option of part payment tuition schools there but i've always loved canada. Whats your advice to me?

Chief Frank

If You can transfer to a German, Ukrainian, Romanian, South African, Caribbean , Ghanian Medical School ,though IT IS NOT TO EASY TO TRANSFER BETWEEN MEDICAL SCHOOLS IN YOUR 4 TO 6 HUNDRED LEVEL CLINICAL STAGE but if date of specific graduation is YOUR Only specific priority this is an option
