good to hear all the good news of TRV.

i have admission for masters in Vancouver island university for septemer 2017. my entire family recently obtained a visitors visa which will expire in November 2017. i have three children and but intend to apply for study permit with my son who is 8years and the youngest (have twin girls who will stay back temporarily). He is on some medication so cant leave him.

i want to find out if this is a good step. i intend applying in may with my husand as the main sponsor, he runs a company and will be providing all the documents. I also run a salon and intend to use this as home ties ( balance of abt 3m with activities). i work with one of the big 4 accounting firm and will be able to obtain study leave letter.

kindly let me know if i am on track. Also my hubby will come in later with my daughters for visit and then i intend to file for extension for my children to stay with me (hope this is possible) as their visa will expire in November.

will appreciate the guru's response and advise.

@osemigho I studied public administration and want to go for masters in public administration. I have also worked at the bank for 3years. My budget is about 27000CAD per year that is tuition, accommodation and all so I don't necessarily need a scholarship. Please advise.

Hey house, I have been following this tread for a while and I have learnt a lot. I applied to university of manitoba and saskatchewan and did not get in due to the fact that the program I applied to is competitive. I graduated with 3.85/5 and thought I stood a good chance as it is a second class upper. Still awaiting decision from Alberta but somehow discouraged. Please gurus in the house(Austinpee, Yemdogg and others) do you think it is wise to consider a PGC because it seems that my cgpa is kind of low or are there other schools that can consider it that you know of. I would appreciate your response. Thank you.

when did you apply to University of Manitoba? what is your intended course? And did you received any formal letter from university of Manitoba stating your weren't considered based on how competitive your proposed course is

Click the link and you find some schools that offer your program. List those that offer winter admission, their requirement and review your SOP. Call on people like Yemdogg, MichV, etc to help review your SOP before submitting it.

Most often than not, many submit very weak SOP that can't save them from the hammer of low GPA. Even first class bubble dey burst. So, you have to ensure you nail every requirement perfectly.

If both you and your husband have the financial capacity for you to go with your son, why not!.

You will still have to point it out that him needing attention will not in any way be a distraction to your study and with good financial strength and strategies, you MAY convince a visa officer that adequate attention will be given to him while you indulge in your study.

Your husband and your other two children are good hometies for you including your business.

Now, aside all the circumstance and profile of you and family, the main reason for going to study must be put into perspective.
1. Is your master admission in any way related to your current activity or degree? (hoping it is accounting/financial related)

Once your purpose of visit is in line with your current activities and overall aspiration and interest and your financial capacity can withstand any additional family member you intend to apply with, you sure have a good chance of obtaining your study permit.

However, everything must be put forth outrighly, simply and convincingly to indicate that you the principal applicant is the whole idea of applying for a study permit.

When you eventually obtain your study permit, you can decide to apply for a spouse open work permit (SOWP) for your husband or he renews his current visa before it expires. Your other kids also will have to renew their visiting visas too.
You can find useful info about extension of visiting visas from within canada here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp

There is no course that is not competitive. They just say that to mean one submitted a weaker profile compare to accepted students.

Improve what you improve in your profile, like sop, CV, choosing right referees, etc.

Thank you very much for taking out time to diagnose my post and advise me accordingly. I will research for schools along my current work activity (mostly mechanical engineering related) for PGD or masters study preferably. I will also need your assistance to enable me get adequate information on low tuition schools for this study in fall 2017 prefarably. Thank you very much. God bless you sir.

Austinpee4:

Bro, i hope this DISSATISFACTION will only be in your mind and will not in any way surface or show in your application to suggest it is at that stance you are seeking a study permit for study. Man of God, you will be shooting yourself with a double barrel on your ankle if otherwise. E dey pain pass!

While it is understandable about how you feel from a nigerian perspective, a visa officer won't see your intentions as genuine if you mistakenly show or mention this in any part of your application. Not even your statement of purpose should ever suggest that!

Having pointed that out, Your intended study should be an advancement or improvement on your current/most recent activity which apparently is the project engineer job. You petroleum degree and intentions should be eliminated at this time because it will be quite difficult to prove that it is the area that will best add to you.

Advise #1: your intended program should be in your current work field.

Secondly, the idea of an advanced diploma after a bachelor degree and 3-4 years work experience might just not be right for you as an advanced diploma in canada preceeds a bachelor's degree program and some may lead to a bachelor degree.
Having obtained a bachelor's degree already, it is NOT an academic progression for you. It simply won't fly.

Advise #2 : Try to go for a master degree program or atleast a post graduate diploma( You will have to convience a VO very well)

So in whatsoever decision you make, you must show great interest, work and enthusiasm about an intended program. It has to be your current activity/occupation, avoid advanced diploma.

When you combine all our opinions, you may become very confused.

Stick with very few for initial review and ask for others opinion on the reviewed version.

That way, you have a direction to focus on, and not multiple directions.

With all this, I will say that YOU CAN'T APPLY TO GO WITH THEM ALL. Your risk your App been refused on family ties.
Note that your husband has a good job, and writing to the embassy that he's coming back does not always fly with the V.Os.
My advice to you is that you should apply for your TRV alone first while you use you husband as home ties.
Applying with your kids may delay your app for a longer time.

Ok in my own opinion, when pple normally proposed not applying with a child or children, it's not only bcox of d financial weight this might incure on their TRV application.

Let's get this straight, Study permit is the ultimate goal of an applicant going for study purpose. if u are going with a child would have said you should go ahead, but for me going for study and going with almost ur entire family is a red flag, cox alot would be considered in this. Are u going there to actually study or u want to migrate as an immigrant? Going with ur children in the eyes of the VO myt look lik a distraction to ur study plans.

Thank God finance is not ur problem, I would advice you first get ur TRV first. The thing is getting ur family to visit after getting that TRV is lot easier than going with 3 children at a time. These children and husband alone is good as your hometies. This is just my opinion and I don't consider myself a guru on this thread, I only advice based on lil I know. So the gurus can share more lights on this.

All the best in ur pursuit.
