Hi guys

I am normally just a viewer on this thread and I really think this is an extremely informative thread.

So I am supposed to resume at tippie biz school in august and I have been sent my I 20 and all.. I am on almost full scholarship and I got grad assistance of 1k a month.

I also have admission to do a finance modeling course in New York with internship with a boutique bank on Wall Street..

My problem is if I apply for my f1 visa, the earliest I can be in the US is July.. so I don't know if I shud apply for f1 visa first and then go and apply for a h1 visa for the internship prog because it starts in June..
guys advise me abeg..

H1b is not an option if you're looking at June. Even if the bank is willing to file for you, you don't have OPT/CPT and won't be able to work until your H1b petition is approved..which could take months. Hope you know premium processing has been put on hold..so easily expect at least 3 months depending on your service center.
Also since you won't be cap exempt, your employer can't just file H1b anytime they want. USCIS starts receiving applications first week of April till the quota is filled up which typically happens the same week.
Hope you know H1b is a lottery system too..so nothing is guaranteed.

Usually you can get work authorization (CPT) to go for internships after two semesters in school...of course depending on your school

What he trying to tell you is that with the f1 visa you cant immediately enter USA and then start working at an internship...... f1 has rules and one of them is that you can only work on campus to a max of 20 hours . Internship is after 2 semester ....so to answer your questions yes f1 is not an option

The June program is not an internship per say.. it's a financial modeling training for 1 month and in the 2 month the attach u to a bank to gain practical experience.. it's totally unpaid.. the attachment I mean...
so it's not structured like it's an internship buh it's like the practical bit of the training

You will get an outright denial with the way you're going. You better focus on a better program. F-1 visa for one month program? Don't kid yourself. You had better relax and go for a better program. Unpaid internship in NY? Do you know how much rent cost over there? See, Trump is not joking this time around, you will get a straight denial.

How can a top notch University be treating me like this,
What kind of Offer be this one ooo

Dear xxxxxx,

Our admission committee has completed its review of your application, and at this point, we would like to offer you a place on our waitlist for 2021. We received more than the usual applications for admission this year, and we have had to be more selective than ever before. Although we have had to make some tough decisions, we can assure you that our review of your application was thorough.

Admitted students in your course have until May 1 to notify us of their plans, so we will not know if we will be admitting students from the waitlist until after May 1. With that said, we hope that you remain interested in xxxxxxxx and that you would like to be considered for any spaces that may open up in the near future. If this is the case, you must indicate your interest by submitting the waitlist response form through your applicant portal. Your response to our waitlist offer is due by Friday, April 7, 2017.

Please don’t hesitate to contact our office if you have any questions. In the meantime, we hope you will accept a place on our waitlist so that we can give you full consideration if any spaces open up in your department.

Sincerely,

emi, Mr. Distinction in Nigeria on a wait list?

Chai Naija!

@bold this is very serious and if you still have interest just follow your mind or indicate because you don't know if by the date they want to consider waiting list miracle can happen on your behalf.

I suggest you wait for other schools or start new application to other schools

GUY!
maybe you are not understanding me.
1. I am going to apply for my F1 visa for my MBA obviously.
2. Because I cannot go into the USA before july 3 and I really would love to join the New york prog starting june.

I am saying is there away out. The guys at the training center have indicated that most nigerians come in with a visiting visa or J1. I am open to suggestions.

IMBTW I know how much the cost of living is in NEWYORK and I have considered the cost as well as the ROI.

Good afternoon house,

I am trying to fill the the DS-160 form, but I couldn't upload my passport, but the from is stating that I should bring the passport for my interview. Does this mean I would not need to upload the passport on the form?

Hello everyone, it's been a while have been following this thread but I still have some questions unanswered yet,

Am a 300L student studying Mathematics(B.Sc) in a federal university here in Nigeria and I wish to go further after my first degree to obtain a M.sc in Computer science or IT, things been the way it is over here am a kind of person that love to plan ahead and I have this zeal in me to study in the US but the fees are just too much to manage, though it isn't like it a do or die affair studying in the US but I see more opportunity to utilize my knowledge over there which is my driving force. My question is, does one stand a chance for a full scholarship throughout ones study period?

I hope someone understands how I feel about this thing.

You stand a better chance with top grades from your current school.
You should start contacting schools now in the USA and asking them about funding.

No one here can tell if YOU will get funding, only schools can answer that.

At bold, you can utilize your Knowledge too in Nigeria if that's your driving force, The tech hub in Yaba is fast developing *smiles*..Anyway, Scholarships are not common in the US unlike the UK, what you get here is assistanship which means your tuition will be waived and you get paid stipdend per month for working for the department or Faculty. You stand a good chance for full tuition waiver if you have good GPA, good GRE and or TOEFL, Good LOR and Good SOP. My advice for you is to face your studies now and finish well. Prepare for GRE and the application process during your NYSC service year and start reading this thread from part 10 maybe, this will give you a good insight.
