Chief Adebanjo....Please we the Kaaro Ojire people doesn't want nor need any alliance or association with any tribal or ethnic group to live or exist. If there is no similarities in language and culture, they are not us and as such not needed. Enough of this nonsense of bringing aliens into our folds all in the name of what?? Before this piss of shit idea of Nigeria came into play....Our people were living and existing, we had kings and Queens. There was structured government in place before the British came into our lands with canons and amalgamating us with aliens. It's really annoying to hear this kind of thing.

What you seem to support, is a way for people to compromise their cultural identities in favour of a fake nationalism with very very different cultural backgrounds.
I advise you to first change your own culture, learn a new culture and language, marry from another tribe and change your own religion first. Then come back and talk here.

I never implied that it would be an instantaneous or discontinuous process. The key fact that you need to understand is that: Culture is dynamic, not static. Cultural identity is like fashion, it changes but on a much more slower time scale. Most of these different tribes screaming at each other on Nairaland share common ancestors as evidenced by language groups, they delineated a long time ago via environmental and social factors. Similarly, history shows that several distinct group of people have combined into a single group (e.g the on-going fusion of Hausa and Fulani tribes) triggered by same factors.

When you start looking at things in the long run, like on the time scale of 100 years and above, you'll get my point.

Permit me to ask one question. Do you understand what the freedom of choice implies?

I asked because you are using an unfortunate example of the conquering of Hausa like tribes by fulanis and the consequent force of the Islamic religion into their lives. Same scenario played out at illorin. That's why illorin has emir instead of Oba.

Do you support the way they were forced to change? A change that meant that if you resist, you must be killed and your wife become the wife of your killers. Your daughters could also be married by your killers.

And when did I ever say any move for integration will be forced?

Not all integration attempts are done by force. Simple co-existence over a long period of time might just be enough.

Of course! But these issues are like marketing grin grin. Socio-economic factors can always convince people to take a step in the direction of integration.

But do you also agree that there might be repugnant cultures and practices which some people might never love to show any compromise and will not therefore feel any compulsion to adapt to, no matter how close they are to the culture or how many years they exist near it?

But when they have a choice not to integrate? Don't you think people should be allowed to choose who they integrate with? Socio economic considerations can never be enough reason to suppress people's right to choice.

we know we are not a tribe, but we are Niger delta. stop dragging us into your stupid nation, we are on our own, we don't want anybody to drag us because of our oil, be it Yoruba or Igbo. we are not Igbo and will never ever be Igbo or part if your Biafra. we know our root and history. we are never Yoruba or Igbo. so get that Mr man. we are Niger Delta. thanks.
you are talking trash, nigerdelta cannot make a nation, its very impossible for you to force every tribe in nigerdelta to form a nation. Look at it this way, you think an ibibio/efik man will want a nigerdelta country with ijaw/isoko/ogoni? No. All the ethnic groups in nigerdelta are so different in culture that they can't be lumped together in a country.

Meanwhile, ondo, IMO and abia are also part of your nigerdelta, you think anioma, etche and ndoki people will want a nigerdelta country with ijaws? No sir

Of course no one will want to adapt disgusting practices into one's group of habits. By the way, why will a group of visionary leaders embarking on such a project pick a set of babaric, repugnant and disgusting practices as their model hybrid culture?? Simple concepts like honesty, hard-work, empathy, skepticism, being industrious etc are the kind of things that will be the common cultural identity.

ipod and fake news™ we the real niger deltans believe that ipod is behind this blackmail gringrin ... whatever happened to igbos are land grabbers.Yorubas should be proud of themselves and associate only with any people, each tribe can survive without oil...take Japan for example, the country doesn't have one single natural resource yet they have one of the strongest economy in Asia. ariwa republic, biafra, and oduduwa can thrive independent of each other. Nigeria is not working today because of sentiment and tribalism... Yoruba will support a politician from his region because he feels an igbo man will support his own likewise an Hausa man...but when everyone stands independently that won't happen.

After reading all the comments, it seem to me that yorubas believe Edos and itshekiri will want to join oduduwa republic. I think that's going to be a problem as the possibility of Edo and itshekiri joining oduduwa Republic is not certain and if they do join, they will suffer the fate of a minority in the country and it will end up lookin like another Nigeria.

There's nothing like a monoethnic country, no matter how small the size of the country.

It cuts much deeper than that, trust me grin

The major reason why there is such major rancour among tribes in Nigeria is because of the type of deep seated divisions in most tribes. The way the southern tribes define hard work and empathy can never be same with how the north defines same attributes.
