slimmy2005: An Edo Man invited his friends for his mother's burial. After lowering the coffin, the family put yam, rice, meat etc, into the grave in line with tradition. A Hausa Man asked why? The Edo man smiled and said,"According to our tradition, the dead go on a long journey and need all the food items they can get". The Hausa man dropped N100,000 inside and said, "When the food finish, buy more". The Yoruba man dropped N50,000 and said, "Add this in case it's not enough."The Igbo man smiled and brought out his cheque book and wrote a cheque of N200,000, dropped it in the coffin and took the N150,000 notes as change, then said "Nwanne, withdraw it when you reach dia oooo!!.. It is going to be a dangerous journey, we don't know how many robbers are out there and afterall we are in a cashless economy. Travel well oooo! Fear Igbo Kwenu!! 4 Likes |

titoakala: You dont have to evaluate WAEC. Mail a copy of your waec result to your school along with WAEC scratch card for the school to confirm online. That's all 1 Like |

omoluabiguy:This is not true for all schools, many schools now require international students to evaluate their high school record by an recognized evaluation agency, which sends a copy directly to them. Its a new requirement and many schools are now adopting the policy. I evaluated my WAEC with WES. Its a compulsory requirement if you are applying to Morgan state, Howard and many others. |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 11 by saninwa: 8:01am On Mar 21, 2017 |
The reason for the evaluation of high school record is to standardize the process especially when converting the high school record to US high school system of using GPA, which is not utilized in our high schools here and in many other countries, though some countries may be using GPA system for high school but in a different scale. Many countries write school leaving exams like WAEC, EAEC, and many more others, and their grading system differs from ours. While many countries like china don't write school leaving exams or external exams, but utilize their internal school transcripts. Now ask yourself, how will admission offers convert all these exams with different grading sysytem and transcripts into US GPA grading system without giving some countries advantage over others based on their own system. Your GPA maybe 2.56 when converted to USA sytem while someone in China gets 3.56, but your performance may be better than his. So it will be very difficult having a free and fair scale with the various systems in many countries. This is the reason why admission officers a now requesting an evaluated record from international recognized evaluators who know how to do the job so that no country or region gets undue advantage over others. Very soon it will be a compulsory requirement for all undergraduate schools. Consider many applicants from many countries of the world with various high school system. If I have a similar performance with a Chinese, we are gonna have the same GPA when converted to US system. And we will be given equal consideration in the admission process. Thanks for understanding. 1 Like 1 Share |

saninwa:The vital point is, why spend almost $250 evaluating your WAEC that might end up frustrating you with delays from the WAEC office when you can get better schools that would accept a printed copy of your WAEC, evaluate for you and hand you admission. No is talking about the difference or the evaluation itself. 3 Likes |

slimmy2005: If you are passionate about the school and that's a requirement; there's no crime in investing your money to get what you want. Almost all top rated schools require ALL international student to evaluate their high school record, except Canada which share a similar system with USA. No special treatment is given to any other particular country. Not all admission offers can evaluate results into US grade system without making mistakes about some countries system. Don't also forget that fake results and transcripts exists in many countries. That's is the need for an recognized international evaluators, that also verifies the result or transcripts before evaluation. |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 11 by omoluabiguy(m): 9:09am On Mar 21, 2017 |
saninwa: Well, maybe you don't know! 90% of evaluation done by WES happens to be undergraduate/graduate transcripts because there re hundreds of thousands of universities around the world with different grading systems which brings about the evaluation and conversion into US grading system if you re applying to American colleges. To think that WAEC is more of high school certification definitely has little to do with WES even though WES does evaluates high school transcripts if need be. WAEC is not a high school; WAEC is a regional (western part of africa) examination organization that is recognized around the world. If you are applying to any foreign university as a Nigerian, be rest assured your WAEC would be among the top requirements as long as you re from west Africa. Most Schools in the USA very much accepts WAEC and they do even advise that you send along a waec scratch card along with your WAEC result upon application. (Remember I said most schools and not all) |

saninwa:You are being unnecessarily emotional about the subject matter. No one is saying you shouldn't go for your dream neither is it a crime to evaluate your result for your desired school. There are open options you can explore with better schools. I guess when Howard gives you admission without funding you'll be able to pay your tuition. You think folks here don't value such great schools? It is much more than just interest, it should be backed by the ability to pay. 1 Like |

omoluabiguy: I have made my points clear for those that wanna understand it. What you just said is quite similar to mine. THE NEED FOR A TRANSCRIPT OR RESULT EVALUATION, whether waec or whatever. For a clearer admission decision. |

saninwa:Oga all these ur yarn no make sense. You think becos u paid money to wes to evaluate ur result, then others should shell out money they dont have for things that are not even necessary. Who told u most schools require WES evaluation for waec when u can just send them ur grades and scratch card info for them to verify and convert ur grades. saninwa:are we talking about the need for evaluations or the means? In as much as your grades are not from US or Canada, you sure need an evaluation. But most schools do evaluate themselves with no fee attached. Well, it's clear when you can equate the level of education with the response. You are still a high school graduate, so I'm not surprised at your response. You will understand better when you land here, that is if Trumps VO are meeciful enough to act right |

saninwa: You are very correct...... i found out about WES when my sister was applying 3 years ago. Our target schools were 5 top schools and all needed WES for WAEC/ transcript for their funding process. If you feel strongly about the school and they have a good scholarship and campus recruiting for job after graduation why let $250 stop you ... that very short sighted if someone advices otherwise 2 Likes |

Chapecoense:This didn't call for insults. I aired my opinion which is a new devt being adopted by many schools now for undergraduate admission. I never insulted you. And by the way, you are not working with WES, so don't make such wrong assumption about them, that 90% of their evaluation are undergraduate or graduate transcripts. Make proper research before coming here to talk nonsense. Go to the department of education website data collection, about 75% of ALL international students in USA are pursing undergraduate studies at either colleges or universities. And majority of these people are from non-english countries like China, they all have their high school transcripts evaluated into US system by WES or other agencies. So don't say what you are not sure of okay. |

chimsimdindu: This again i found to be true for a lot of the tops schools ........... They Evaluate International High school result by one body to put everyone on a level playing field for funding evaluation Yes someone can argue that there are many other schools that might not need WES , but it really depends on you and what your target or focus is ........... All schools are not equal so you plan according to what you want to get out of it . |
