oyb: Pantry is not a place you frequent that much (Its not the kitchen itself), so you dont need a Window there. The one minute five times a day (at most) you enter the Pantry wont increase your NEPA bill significantly. Even at night, you will still need the Light, windows or no windows! Block the darn thing off. Most houses dont put window in a Pantry, at times, it is locate in the space under the staircase. That is where mine is and l have seen many like that. 1 Like |

rabcnesbit:Not the best way to cut cost as some food materials gets bad when there is no proper ventilation. Also lack of ventilation supports dampening by raising humidity within the space and spoils grains. that 50k will serve the users better. |

rabcnesbit:what you can do is if the store opens to the Kitchen directly you can make use of fancy blocks at higher levels to compensate for the windows. or better still stop the wall between kitchen and store at after the lintel depending on your design out look. |

rabcnesbit:it all depends on your aluminium man and welder in terms of strenght and durability they are same for fixing stability the in built is better, plus you can incorporate wrought iron work to the window in place of the usual bars place in aluminum frame. Something like this 1 Like

Daboomb: Maybe your pantry is different. There is food in my pantry, both processed and unprocessed. Semo, Rice, indomie, biscuits, juice, etc. Me, my wife, kids, go there several times a day. Definitely more than five times. In addition we are talking about energy efficiency. Just as some others have mentioned, I also use an inverter. My batteries are on their last legs so we do not use anything except the absolutely necessary loads during operation. You're running on nepa, fine. But if you're running on an inverter, or an I pass my neighbour, every watt counts. Decisions like this, (cutting out windows) may save you money in the short run, but can have a different impact in the long run. 2 Likes |

Here in the US, I've never had a window in any pantry. There is no window in my pantry in Ibadan, I think there will be enough airflow as it's smack dab in the kitchen which has a large sized pass through to the breakfast bar as well as a pretty big sized window. 3 Likes |

oyb: You are still mixing things up, up there! People and their family members enter their kitchen as many times as possible, doing all those stuffs you mentioned up there! Or are you telling me that EVERYDAY, EVERYTIME each member of your family needs to eat ANYTHING (Indomie, Semo, Eba, Rice, Tea, Biscuits, Juice, Eggs, processed food, e.t.c)......... they all head INSIDE THE PANTRY? You funny-die! You need to check the dictionary meaning of a Pantry! It is A STORE... for the Kitchen! (Place where bulk food, mostly unprocessed, are kept long-term). Just like the whole House could have a Store (You can keep DIY stuffs in your Store, you can keep Inverter Batteries there if you want, e.t.c) Read @Egunmogaji's response (He was the first person to use that word: Pantry, on this issue). I am sure you dont even have a Pantry ......otherwise you wont state the bolded in your post. 1 Like |

Daboomb: In my house, in Costco we believe, so we end up coming home with gademn huge amount of products. I have a storage cabinet in the garage where we store stuff like tin tomato. Then a few tin tomato crate goes into the pantry in the kitchen from the cabinets in the garage. Then maybe half a dozen of those end up in the kitchen cabinet. As the kitchen cabinet gets less they are replenished from the pantry. As the pantry gets less then it gets replenished from the garage cabinet. In fact, my Wife makes part of her grocery list from the cabinets in the garage. If there's low stock there then that means that we are almost out. Yeah, pantry is not somewhere you go in all the time and nothing easily perishable really gets stored in there. Small batteries for electronics. Tin cans of vaariou scomdiments Bottled water Cooking oil Large plastic tubs of garri, elubo, etc (smaller plastic containers of as such are in the kitchen cabinets Paper towel Toilet paper Car keys (hung neatly behind the door) But I will say though that each family is different and the way they use space might be different. So after we beat this pantry affair, can we move on to safe rooms and what should be stored in there? 2 Likes |

Daboomb: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pantry A pantry is a room where beverages, food, and sometimes dishes, household cleaning chemicals, linens, or provisions are stored. Food and beverage pantries serve in an ancillary capacity to the kitchen. The word "pantry" derive from the same source as the Old French term paneterie; that is from pain, the French form of the Latin panis for bread.[citation needed] my pantry has all the things previously listed and more. the juice my kids take to school is in a container in a pantry ; so are their biscuits semi processed foods [indomie, semo, spagetti etc are in their own containers] raw foods [garri, rice, etal] are in their own containers provisions [cereal, custard, milk, sugar] are in their own containers some items may require a forthnight to visit the pantry [tins of milk] others like biscuits [small packets] is once or twice a day it is possible that your kitchen doubles as your food store. if so, good for you. 2 Likes |

[/b]Can three bedroom bungalow be built for N3m?[b] I know we've debated this before and we all have our views, but I wish to bring this up again in light of some new examples . I hold the view that N3 million can get one a half decent three bedroom bungalow. So I had my secondary education in Benin Technical College, Benin City Edo State. This was then the best equipped secondary and technical school in Nigeria. No hype, just facts. We had air-conditioning in classrooms, near Olympic size swimming pool, well equipped labs and workshops. The vocational training was top class to London City and Guild qualifications. I did my elective in woodwork with technical drawing. It was heaven. The best time was in the 80s. But then subsequent government allowed the Benin Technical College to go to rot and decline. See pix.. What has this to do with N3m bungalow? Tarry a bit longer.

EgunMogaji: Garage => Pantry => Kitchen => Kitchen Cabinets => Pot or Mouth As we move from left to Right, the 'Item's Quantity' get Smaller. I dont see anyone jumping the Kitchen and its Cabinets.... to fetch Fufuu, Soup or Biscuit in the Pantry! Thank you Sir, l have nothing more to add to the pantry affair........ you have broken it down beyond what hammer can do. 3 Likes |

To bring back the lost glory of Benin Technical College, the old students UK/Europe Chapter of which I'm a member are about to hand over a built 10 rooms toilet facility to the school. The project was executed with N2m. See pix. Now the footprint of the project is equivalent to a 3 bedroom bungalow. So pump in a further N1m will get one a half decent 3 bedroom bungalow. 1 Like
