Unfortunatly, your Military History needs to be polished wink

Iraq had one of the finest militaries in the world at the time, during the ten year war against Iran (which had finised ~2 years before GW 1) they had received some of the finest training and equipment BOTH the West and the East had to offer.

The Iraqi airforce had extensive experience in Air-to-Air combat, doding SAM's and attacking well defended positions.

Their SAM crews had extensive experience shooting down Iranian jets and dealing with Iranian SEAD and EW

They Iraqi army of 1990 was extensivly experienced, very well equipped, but poorly trained.
The American army of 1990 was extensivly trained and well equipped, but poorly experienced.

The Americans, as we all know, wiped the floor with the Iraqi's.

well, the iranians at that time weren't much of a threat themselves and not comparable to NATO.

in one of the CS50(computer science) classes i took, they talked about how the iraqis knowing how useless their airforce was against western SAM batteries, had to modify their scud missiles to evade the patriot. so when after it misses they are detonated to avoid casualties when it falls to the ground. lots of people, expecially journalists were fed that the fireballs in the sky were hits. don't want to bore you with technical details grin
you can google dhahran base attack during that war.

turned out the iraqis were hitting US and ally targets with ease till the patriot radar tracking software was updated.

they did have impressive army and air defence infrastructure to counter any conventional air threat.

plus, it was like iraq against the world, what did you expect was going to be the outcome when even a more powerful NAZI Germany failed.

January 17 – An F/A-18C Hornet (Bureau Number : 163484) was shot down by an Iraqi Mig-25 in an air-to-air engagement. The pilot (Lieutenant Commander Michael Scott Speicher) of VFA-81 was killed but his body was not found until July 2009.

but to stop with this out of subject you guys sems dont understand what a coalition of 34 coutries mean and the most powerful ones ( USA, france , british italy unclinding also egypt , saudia arabia, Syria , ,kuweit , jordan, morocco neighbours ect .. ) 938 545 soldiers , 2250 last modern aircrafts with AWACKS advantage , , with satellites , jamming , stealth jets ,tomahowk advanced technology ect ...... and all last version of equipement with 10 times numbers , ! againt one country , with export version .

iraki did what they can with tei capacity . coalition lost 39 fixed-wing aircraft and 5 helicopters lost in direct combat. (76 aircraft lost in total) . if you think that south african , nigerian , algerian army can do better againt a coalition like that you are dreaming

back to posting pic for me

South Africans are dull and they will never stop dreaming.

Despite all the training they could only produce 6 qualified gripen pilots to face such coalition. If you give them the opportunity they will still tell you how many hundred planes they will shoot down with those pilots even though they crash helicopters chasing common poachers.

the Iraqi war was never balanced.
the iraqis were cheated the by coalition numbers

Wasn't it you guys who championed experience over better training? Didn't you cheer for the notion that current NAF has more experience than the current SAAF?

Now I showed you where experience was triumphed by better training so stop crying fowl.

NAF pilots have better training and experience than SAAF pilots.

How do you have better training when you hard even fly? Or do your pilots train on the Ground?

The Algerian army is a strong institution in the country, there is even a monthly army official magazine released and an official TV broadcast army each month on national TV , and also public shows (SF, gendarms , navy, air force open doors ) so many pics and videos smiley , we Algerian military amateurs are lucky grin

6 Gripen pilots?

I guess we have invented a robot Gripen that flies on its own, it's a world's first.

"Julius Malema Speaks" is a fake account, amongst dozens of others.

A member of Parliament would be expelled instantly if he could utter provocative statements meant to undermine or start a war with a foreign country. We have laws in South Africa, something you're yet to get used to.

Owning and using are two distinct things. I wouldn't take an airforce that have struggled to exceed having 10 pilots after more than 10 years of owning a platform serious.

I'm left wondering what you guys do? Wake up each morning, get dressed, drive for some miles to go admire the Gripens parked in an hanger somewhere and go back to your dorms.. I'm sure you've got gripen models on you car dashboards eh?

Let's take this somewhere else, the dick measuring contest is derailing the thread. And when we do, please debate your points with facts not fantasies.

Let me see, we have a bigger Airforce budget than you, we have more flying machines than you. We have 60+ flying helicopters, 48 operational jets... According to your logic they fly on their own... Again, that would be an amazing achievement.

I haven't replied all through but I am forced to say you just typed shiit.

Your air combat capabilities are limited to the Gripen multi-role fighter and the Rooivalk combat support helicopter although in insufficient number to allow regional deployments while maintaining national air security and current training commitments.
Nigerian Airforce has deployed to Gambia while fighting BHT.

We didn't deploy just Helos we deployed jets.

So it's not a fact that 10 Gripens can rap.e the Nigerian airspace with no response from the NAF? OK let's reduce the numbers and make it 2 Gripens, that should give your much experienced pilots something they can actually fight. :p

F##k me.... Geez!!!

One of the first Gripen pilots, SAAF's Lieutenant Colonel Musa Mbhokota, as at 2016 after 10 years has 2000 hours in total.. Which means less than 2000 actually because he's flown other platforms. This translates to less than 200 hours per year!!!

shocked shocked

I'm actually done responding, it's a waste of time.

So you can't afford to train more pilots or can't keep more than 10 jets active because of costs?? Whichever one you like, just pick one

No dude, you deployed trainers that can't even do CAS, it's just a toy that drops free-fall bombs.

Let's do the math again. We can deploy

- 10 Gripens
- 10 Rooivalks
- 20 BAE Hawks

Now do you want me show how that rape.s the Nigerian airspace?
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by TrueHeart365(m): 2:19pm On Mar 26, 2017
it's funny that Nigerians are being decieved that we have the infrastructure to counter a conventional air threat.

we are just lucky to be surrounded by poor countries.

dropping bombs on insurgents with zero air defence capabilities is totally different from fighting a conventional air threat.

hate to break it to you but for the sake of passing the right info to those who actually are here to learn, our rolands(God knows if they still function) that haven't seen recent upgrade, our outdated ARADU(if not stripped already) and manpads is not worth bragging about. a decent airforce with 4th generation aircrafts will stroll in our airspace with ease.

only few countries in africa can brag of adequate air defence systems and SA and Nigeria are none

but here, who wants the truth when we can keep decieving ourselves and laugh over itgrin.
