Honestly, Nigeria has produced a lot of players, who quickly fizzle out and end their careers in junior teams because they are often older than the age they claimed.

Chrisantus Macaulay won the Golden Boot at the 2007 tournament in South Korea, has since faded out. Meanwhile, Bojan Krkic, who played in that same tournament, won the Champions' League with Barcelona, while Toni Kroos had gone on to win the World Cup and Champions League.

Nigeria's Oladele Ajiboye' who saved two penalties in the final match of the same competition, is no longer relevant in Nigerian football, while his opposite number in that final, David De Gea, is Manchester United's goal keeper.

Figo played Under-20 in 1991 and only just retired in 2013. Xavi, Casillas, Robbie Keane, Ashley Cole, Santa Cruz, Seydu Keita, Ronaldinho, etc. played in Nigeria 99, but one wonders what has happened to the Nigerian players at the tourney, such as, Pius Ikedia, Julius Aghahowa, who won the silver and bronze balls. Both ended their senior careers in 2002? Only, Yobo was able to make it to 2014.

It's just so sad. Imagine Ahmed musa claiming 23 years old.

Not all players at junior level get to excel and have a successful senior career in Football....is like saying people who took first position in J.S 2 all graduating with first class and get employed by blue chip companies, it does not always pan out that way..

How can the team of an individual who ranks best among top 10 defenders be fumbling and conceding dozens? and then another team (plateau united) that has been on top of the table from week 1 to week 17 we are in now not have 2 or 3 defenders in the list but have just a miserable one and that one is not even among the OP's top 3 list?
I tire for ur list o

Many of them in Kanu set played at top level for years...Oruma the Skipper of that squad i think played top flight football for various clubs in france for years amongst others

Yeah, Oruma did well but we are talking about as successful as Kanu ..
What about the class of 2007? What happened to the likes of Ganiyu Oseni, haruna lukman, Rabiu Ibrahim, king osanga, kabiru akinsola, etc..

It is not limited to Nigeria, not all who did well for other nations in youth competitions are as successful as Papilo...We still see some that are just average like any of these players mentioned. We only get to watch them because they are home based in Spain, England and the likes....

Mention one player that played at fifa u17 world Cup in 2003 except Mikel Obi that u know. Remember, Nigeria got knocked out at group stage, no thanks to toss of coin.
Can u mention great players from the fifa u17 tourney in 93 apart kanu?
My bro, this is a circus, it cuts across bothers and countries.
Is rooney real 28 years?
Is John Terry really 33years?
I can go on and on and on.
The only reasons ours stands out is as a result of having poor football administration and sponsorship, thus affecting the growth of the players. Europeans and Americans won't nurture all ur players for u. Check out Iheanacho, do u think English media would have had it easy with man city assuming he was an English talent? This things are complex.
