In other climes you specializes in Dentistry after doing your first degree in Medicine and if Dentistry is not a Medical Doctor why is it under the Nigerian Medical Association..

In other countries like the US you apply to the school of dentistry after finishing your bachelors degree. You can't get a medical degree as first degree over here. You have to finish your bachelors first then apply to your regular college of medicine or school of dentistry (or whatever yiu want to study).

Again there are no better course, fill the course you are passionate about and not what people tell u. If u choose either course without being passionate about it u either get kicked out or frustrated in the end. But if you want to know all about the human body and cause alot of good in the world become a medical doctor and give in ur best but if u are scared of cutoff mark field in dentistry because medicine is for the smartest.

I take it you don't know anything about the curriculum of Dental Surgery,a Dentist do know ALL about the human body since he only deviate from his general medical colleauges after the fourth year..

*same salary scale in Nigeria
Dentist paid higher in most developed countries of the world
*both treated and respected the same way
*dentists have more potential to earn more money than those that studied medicine
*Both are under the same umbrella medical and dental council of Nigeria and NMA with the same identity card generated by the same association
*Same method of renewing and getting practising license
Any of them can be head of the hospital as CMD
Both can go on to specialize and earn same salary and allowance

The fact of the matter is that while all the courses are good, more emphasis is lay on one than the other. Pharmacy is much more better than the two mentioned courses of your interest. You can easily set up yourself as a pharmacist but consider what you will spend if you decided to go into private practice as a medical doctor (MBBCH) or a dentist. You can start with lower and small facilities as a pharmacist but not in the case of the two aforementioned area of your interest...but to study Pharmacy you have to develop interest in chemistry very well.

Medicine is d zenith of the medical profession pls. I can't allow my child so dentistry. I love pharmacy alot too , those guys are smart and intelligent. But dentistry is a no no plss. If you want to become proud and proficient become a medical doctor (MBBS or MD). In my next world I must be a medical doctor. It's a promise. Imagine calling urself a Cardiologist, Gastroenterologist, Neurologist, it gives me the goose bumps wen I hear such. But what d hell is orthodontists, paediatric dentistry, public health dentist, maxillofacial surgeon. These are bull crap men!

@Op,, It's a matter of choice. Both have their advantages and disadvantages..you will probably know better when you're in either of them. Just do your research!

So if one did not study medicine , dentistry or any of all the shitty paramedical courses then he couldn't aachieve anything in life? no wonder doctors are committing suicide and dentist are disillusioned. Doctors collect #500/hour and u feel it's a thing of pride, while private practice for dentists are so limited they pray for government jobs or earn 70k per month and have to wear ties and a white coat on it. In my next world I would love to be a doctor but not in Nigeria because I have no regard for medical practice in Nigeria.

A dentist is not a medical doctor in any Clime in the world. To qualify as a medical doctor you must do medicine, surgery, paediatric and gynaecology then pass professional exams in these. Anything short of these you can't regard urself as a medical doctor. Dentists are brothers to medical doctors yet they are not. At best they are called dental surgeons. U can simply Google who a medical doctor is. pls let's pass the right info always.

The emotional satisfaction of being a physical is second to none. The respect of saving a life that would have been lost or saving a ruptured ectopic by rushing to theatre that is medicine. Dentist will never have that satisfaction. I have relatives in both field and I know how gallantly the doctor moves and how high sounding he could be and the respect he garners. However physicians remain middle class most of their life as there's really not much money made.
