The airport is at the center of Anambra, connecting the major cities of the state. It is 15mins to Onitsha, 25mins to Awka and 45mins to Nnewi. The contribution of Anambra is the land, 3 dualcarriage access ways, enabling environment and other paper works etc. The main funding is coming from the private sector. The land for the project at Umueri is massive that it can even contain 10 runways but at the moment they are beginning with 2 runways.

Thanks for the response, I hope a time is coming when We would no longer have to fly to Lagos or Abuja just to travel.
I hope the Anti Ibos in the Federal level doesn't kill the functionality with their usual policies.

.
You have clearly demonstrated that you're geographically-challenged to know where towns are located in order to calculate distance. Even Google says that Umuleri is 38-42mins, factoring in the time it takes to drive on a single carriageway with 60Kmh vs driving on a dual carriageway with 100kmh to Asaba( it takes real driving experience to notice this ) unless the airport is located at Awkuzu junction, then you could get their in 15 mins

If Asaba is not profitable then citing an airport in a distant place like Umuleri is a ludicrous idea!! Only delusional fools think that Umuleri is closer to Onitsha than Asaba.

Ethiopian Airlines only flies to Enugu 3 times in a wk while servicing over 20m folks in SE, so u think it's going to leave 15m folks for a cargo airport in anticipation of having about 1 flight a day? Emirates pulled out of Abuja in spite of its size and wallet. United pulled out of Naija in spite of our size and wallet.

Since this is a proposed cargo airport, who are their targeted customers?

No need to break down shipping figures for you cos you sound like you have neither run any intl biz nor travelled extensively to speak from a position of experience.

Anambara DOES NOT need an airport at this particular
point on time..this is purely a misplaced priority! We
have three airports less than 150 kilometer radius at
Asaba, Enugu and Imo.
What is needed most is a trans-southeast railway that
terminates at Onne Portharcourt.. A railway connecting
Onitcha, Nnewi, Enugu, Owerri and Aba, terminating at
Onne!
Here,we force the government to open up Onne port and
invariablely our inland water ways...2 Billion dollars will
go a very long way in the construction of such project..
I see this as a well calculated move in the political
chessboard with the state election just few months
away...Obiano should stop playing cheap politics!

LOCATION : Wrongly located project thats bound to fail.
Anambra state have lands reserved since 1970s at Oba
for its airport. It is close to Onitsha township and the
millionaires zones of Nnewi ,Owka etiti,Amichi,Ob
a,ichi,Obosi,Ojoto Orifite,Osumenyi only for willy to site
his pet project in the middle of nowhere.

Lastly, let me exercise little optimism..... I reserve my comments, until the proposed project is
reliazied, can't fall for all these "POLITICAL GIMMICKS
", again. .Ndi Anambra shine your eyes. ...

Shut ur ignorant or deliberate ignorant mouth up...

Go check who took d airport to anambra east...

Besides u re so ignorant. The phone and phone accessories market alone at onitsha is enough reason to build a cargo airport in Anambra.... Businesses in Anambra who depend on air cargo go all d way to lagos. U still get mind question this deal.... Smh for u....

See reasoning! City of Atlanta GDP is over $300bn with 1 intl airport servicing the entire state of Georgia and some parts of Alabam and S/Carolina...while Anambra with $7bn GDP wants to build another airport. If Delta state with $16bn GDP is having problem attracting domestic flights to Asaba what makes you think that Umuleri cargo airport is going to work?
Re: My Take On The Proposed Anambra Airport Project"dead On Arrival" by Schematics: 6:22pm On Apr 14, 2017
Why are you bothered that Anambra wants to build an airport? If you are so worried that it is not gonna be a fruitful project why didn't you at least burn yourself to protest Delta building the 2nd airport in their state? You are not even from Anambra, the fact that you guys are disturbed is not borne out of love but intimidation. Please leave Anambra and it's airport alone. It is not your money that investors are using on it because you have none. Leave it to us like that, it is going to work for us because we are the most travelled Nigerians. The biggest market in the West Africa is in this state, the richest Nigerians are from this state, the agricultural products etc.

The multi billion dollar project is for the development, under a Build, Operate, Manage & Transfer (BOMT) arrangement of an Airport City (Aerotropolis). The airport will be an International Cargo Airport and will have an aviation fuel dump where aircrafts will fly in to refuel.

Other airport city projects include but not limited to two runways, Passenger and VIP Terminal, Taxiways and Aprons, Fire Station, Control Building and Towers, Aviation Fuel dump and dispensing facilities, airport cargo sheds, aircraft maintenance hanger, five star airport hotel and conference center, aviation training and services buildings, airport multilevel car parks, airport recreational areas, international mega shopping mall, luxury retail shopping, China wholesale depots, emergency service centers, industrial business park.

The project will create a whole new world of economic opportunities for the South-East, and will unleash the untapped potential of increased trade and commercials , manufacturing, innovation, technology transfer, SME growth and IGR revenue explosion to Anambra State.

Below are the eight important facts about this project

1. This Airport City will be an integrated city comprising of Two Runways, A shopping Mall, Industrial and Business parks and Airport Hotels.
2. The Airport when completed will create 1200 direct jobs with 70 % of the jobs reserved for Ndi Anambra.
3. 3% of the profit made in the Airport will be reserved for host (Umueri) community
4. The Airport will be sited on 1500 hectares of land with room for expansion.
5. The cost of developing the Airport will be in the region of 2 billion dollars.
6. The Anambra International Cargo Airport will be constructed under Build Operate Manage and Transfer (BOMT )
7. The Partners for this project are Anambra State government Orient Petroleum
Elite International Investment Holding and Chinese Aviation company
8. The project will be ready in three years.

don't let zoo mentality kill your development.

and an airport is nothing more than a strip of cement and the ability to coordinate flights. It's a bus stop for air travel. There's no such a thing as 'Asaba has one, Owerri has one, Enugu has one'. Every village can have one if they want. They're not expensive to complete, or complicated to maintain. It's the zoo that will make you think things like airports and bridges happen once in a lifetime. Or that you can put an airport in economy dead weight Kano, Kaduna, and even Abuja but you shouldn't put one in Anambra because there's one in Asaba.

It's zoo thinking to believe an airport is a business. The business isn't the airport the business is the airlines, like a bus depot. Have you ever heard of a non-viable bus depot. Only zoo babies talk about ports and airports like they're businesses and musicians
