VirginFinder: Desmond Elliot, wat does he call himself again? https://www.nairaland.com/2685300/desmond-elliot-why-hid-yoruba He even hid his yoruba identity. I suppose half bread is better than none in his case. Half is half my brother, put urself in their position, even me, i will tell u that i am half, becos that is wat it is. 1 Like |

Inter-tribal marriage is not a new phenomenon, in the old dayz wen two different tribe meet, they create a new language and start a new tribe. That is y we have so many languages in Nigeria. Example is the Isoko, they are Urhobo mixed with Ijaw, but today claim different identity and speak a different dialect. We look at the ikwere, the only reason we know they are igbo is beco of their igbo names but their language is different, they are a mix of igbo and other tribe in the south. They dont claim being igbo. Yorubaigbo is a new group or tribe. They are neither yoruba or igbo. They are yorubaigbo. |

Onechancearmy: I am glad you know that diversity works in normal societies. Nigeria ain't normal which is why it fails. It is just like saying that other country's citizen do not litter but as Nigerians we can't because we are dirty people. The only reason it does not work in Nigeria is because Nigerians in Nigeria lack the basic decency and knowledge of why it is advantageous. This is how bad Nigerians are as a people. One time i showed a friend of mine in Switzerland a video on youtube of how a mob of people set a suspect on fire. You know what amazed him the most? It wasn't that it happened that shocked him. What shocked him was the fact that they took the time to video it, stand around without fear of the authorities and even had the nerve to put it on the internet. Guy, it doesn't matter if the three ethnic groups split apart. They will still find ways to fight amongst themselves. |

hammerF: Desmond Elliot was into Igbo nollywood. That's why he did that. Same way Ramsey Nouah, Lilian Bach and Segun Arinze didnt throw up their Yoruba identities. When it came to politics, Desmond Elliot immediately went back to source. There is nothing like half. The father decides everytime! |

hammerF: His Igbo mother has nothing to do with it. Yemi Alade is confused. She grew up in the East. |

VirginFinder: long thing... They dat wear the shoe know where it hurts. They have told you yorubaigbo and dat is accepted. I am igbo and you are yoruba, they call themselves yorubaigbo. |
Re: Being Yoruba And Igbo Is A Plus For Me - Yemi Alade by obiezed: 6:13pm On Apr 16, 2017 |
hammerF:Are you saying that the ''Igbo'' cannot understand ikwere ??,have you ever listened to ikwere really??,ikwere is linguistically closer to mainstream Igbo in structure than even Ezza which is acknowledged to be an Igbo dialect. |
Re: Being Yoruba And Igbo Is A Plus For Me - Yemi Alade by hammerF: 6:15pm On Apr 16, 2017 |
obiezed: Dat is not the debate here, the point am making is dat ethnic mixing creates new ethnic identity that is distinct or distinguished by a combination of both parent identity. |
Re: Being Yoruba And Igbo Is A Plus For Me - Yemi Alade by VirginFinder: 6:17pm On Apr 16, 2017 |
hammerF: Unfortunately, Nigeria does not recognise 'Yorubaigbo' During the next census in 2018, they'll be identified either as Yorubas or Igbos. You can be sure which one they'll choose. |
Re: Being Yoruba And Igbo Is A Plus For Me - Yemi Alade by hammerF: 6:19pm On Apr 16, 2017 |
VirginFinder: Does it matter? Many of dem will still go further to have inter-tribal or inter-racial marriages. Or will u discourage dem after being the first to start it becos u now want a tribal thing? Which ever way u see it, they are not yoruba or igbo at the end. |
Re: Being Yoruba And Igbo Is A Plus For Me - Yemi Alade by VirginFinder: 6:21pm On Apr 16, 2017 |
hammerF: Why doesnt it matter They'll be counted as Yoruba and eventually add to Yoruba population in Nigeria rather than Igbo. Hence, they cant be 'Yorubaigbo' It does really matter! |

VirginFinder: We know dat is ur agenda but time will tell if it works or fails. As for censor, if they are living with their mum becos of divorce or baby mama dont be surprise they go with igbo. A proper censor is suppose to make provision for children of mixed ethnicity as we have in other country. It is not clear cut as they can choose any side on paper. Population control is still best practice, too much population no jobs equals poverty and crime. |

hammerF: It will work! There is nothing like mixed ethnicity anywhere in the world. Any reference to once maternal origin is just for reference sake. It does not change the right ethnicity of the person in question. Anybody can claim to be anything. Some Nigerians even claim to be Americans. That is not the point here. The point is that whoever has a Yoruba father is Yoruba. chikena! |

hammerF: I don't get you. You are the one who is trying to change the status quo here. From time immemorial, the father decides. Nobody can be counted in 2 places. It's why women are not allowed to inherit lands in Igboland because of fear of eventually losing it to the husband's family via marriage. |
