NFF Pay Tribute To Super Eagles Defender Adefemi On Sixth Anniversary Of His Death

The Nigeria Football Federation have paid tribute to former Nigeria international Adefemi Olubayo on the sixth anniversary of his death.

The versatile defender tragically lost his life on April 18, 2011 in a car crash in Kavala, Greece as he was traveling to Nigeria to arrange his wedding to Folashade Adeshina.

''Today we remember late Olubayo Adefemi who died on this day in 2011. May his soul continue to rest in peace,'' the NFF stated via their official Twitter account.

Adefemi was not wearing a seat-belt when the accident happened and it might have cost him his life, he was thrown outside the car and succumbed to head injuries suffered.

He came to international prominence in 2005 when he helped the Flying Eagles qualify for the final of the Fifa U20 World Cup, and was a member of the Dream Team that also lost again to an Argentinian side that included Messi in the gold medal match of Beijing 2008.

Bayo represented teams in France, Austria, Israel, Romania and Greece.

And how many goals has the prolific Chuba scored and or assists made for Brighton and Hove

Meaning?

I don't understand the basis for this question.

I think sometimes it is good for our football if people are complaining. It will keep the coach and the players on their toes but Bazee was being looked at by arsenal so i don't get why people are picking on him.

I don't think anybody here has even clamored for Chuba's invitation.

The article was on his club gaining promotion. And he came up with such a statement.

That's why I said I don't understand the basis of his comment.

The officiating today was atrocious and makes a big case for my constant call for video replay technology. We are seeing more poor officiating as time goes on. The red card of Vidal was terrible and the Ronaldo Offside goal was even worse.

This is why I always tell people to leave NPFL referees alone. That referee team was just poor, 2 offsides missed and a silly red card given.

Who has even said anything about Chuba here?

It makes me wonder how a comment like that can come from a fellow who believes so much in the English youths system. So why pick on Chuba?

Set to play how?

Has his nationality issues been sorted out?

Is the Super Eagles team that spineless that any player from some where can just walk in and play?

No body here is even looking his way. So that comment is not necessary from the context of the article he quoted.

There was nothing bad about the comment, it might have been underhanded but we shall survive. Not the worst thing said on this thread about a Nigerian player.

Martins is actually performing better than any other Nigerian player in the Chinese league.

When he was in the MLS he was the top performing Nigerian player. In addition one of the top performers

If he wasn't the top performing Nigerian player in La Liga in 2012/13, he would be very close to it.

If Obagoal was playing in the Bundesliga he would probably have the highest goal tally of all Nigerian players in the Bundesliga. And you know what Rohr would have him as the first man on the SE team sheet.

If Rohr is considering to invite a striker from the Chinko league, Martins should be the number one on the list.

Hehehehe! So, Rohr is bias towards extending invitations to German based players, ba!? grin

I don't get it, is it because he plays foe arsenal? Why don't u stand up for Taiwo Awoniyi like this, is it because he was a Manu boy? Nobody has looked his way yet every week people talk about how badly he has dropped.

Who told you that is what counts. Martins underachieved when you consider his ability. He could have won more trophies and become a bigger name.

What counts?

Define your standard of 'underachievement' before we begin debate.

Ex-Flying Eagles Skipper Named In Team Of The Week In The Netherlands

Abdul Ajagun has been named in the Eredivisie Team of the Week for his performance against Ryan Sanusi's Sparta Rotterdam this past weekend.

The ex-Flying Eagles captain put in an impressive display and scored two goals for Roda JC in their 3-1 win over the opponents.

Foxsports awarded Ajagun thirteen points and a spot in midfield alongside Mahi (FC Groningen), Davy Propper (PSV Eindhoven) and Django Warmerdam (PEC Zwolle).

The attacking midfielder managed to complete the game against Sparta despite sustaining an injury after scoring his first goal.

The 24-year-old is spending the whole of this season on loan at Roda JC before returning to his parent club Panathinaikos.

There is personal under achievement.

And there is the club not achieving anything.

Considering the two approaches I can safely say that Mikel is probably the highest achieving Nigerian player from a club perspective. However, the incredible talent of Mikel was diminished playing as a DM and his personal talent never reached the heights it should have. In this regard I could day he underachieved.

Now we celebrate JJay incredible personal talent. However, from a club perspective what did he achieve . Can I say respectfully, not a lot considering his undoubted mercurial incomparable talent. Particularly, if we put him side by side with his peers, like ZZ Zidane, Beckham, Leonardo, Del Piero, Baggio, Rivaldo, Vieira, etc. I believe he was better than some of these players but look at what they achieved in comparison and JJay falls short.

Now back to Obagoal, who is still continously relevant one thing I will say is that. He Martins seemed to follow the money not the career. In that regard he hasn’t achieved the highest accolades he might have. But then look at teams he has played for and what they have won it has not been a total underachievement. If it was money he was looking for then he has achieved more.

I still think he is relevant, tell me one young striker that has got anywhere near to his level. If we consider what he was doing at thier age comparatively.

I would invite him to the SE if Defoe can be invited to England why not Obagoal.

Meaning?

I don't understand the basis for this question.

It's light hearted sarcasm Chuba has done ok infact exceptional in youth football, but has not been able to make the transition to senior football.

Played 77 competitive league games in three divisions for different clubs on loan from Arsenal and scored 7. He is a striker that is not exceptional.
