komekn: That's why I said I did not understand initially. Everything you just said about Chuba is right. Nothing connected to whether he should be invited to the Super Eagles or not. I just needed to understand the stand point from which you made that comment. That's all. |

BascoVanVeli: Awoniyi was bought by Liverpool went on loan and has not been able to make an impression. In football there are very short memories. If he was playing for Liverpool's U23 he would at least be remembered and his performances if outstanding put him in the frame. Otherwise as it stands he is almost forgotten the money they paid for him peanuts to Liverpool. I can assure every month there is a new player or players in trial at Liverpool. Three month ago I was at Kirkby watching U23's train saw a Brazilian there striker looked good not sure if they signed him. But Awoniyi must know if you are not moving fast somebody is overtaking you. |

maidaboi: It's essentially because it was being hailed as a break through that Chuba has switched to play for the SE. Very compelling photo of him Aina and Amaju. Pictures tell stories too. Playing for Arsenal doesn't mean you are exceptional unless you break into first team. Arsenal is not Chelsea. Meanwhile I digress watched FA youth Cup Final yesterday first leg. Manchester city vs Chelsea. Seen one Nigerian midfielder uwakwe looked amongst the other Nigerian origin promising players on both sides |

BascoVanVeli: Awoniyi has deteriorated badly or just remained static. New players come on the scene all the time, if a player does not show something, he will be replaced or forgotten 2 Likes |

tbaba1234: I think the young man is on a good path. Right now he is learning what it takes to be a professional, granted his team sucks but that's also good for him because he can mature away from the spot light. He might not have scored goals but what he has done is win shirts and u can't start for a team without proving to the coach ur worth in training. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by tbaba1234: 3:01pm On Apr 19, 2017 |
BascoVanVeli: The coach started him for a while and then dropped him to the bench due to his lack of goals. His return to the first team is good but he is not delivering. This is his second season on loan. He did not deliver on his first either. His team got relegated. The german 2nd division and the dutch league are decent levels for him to show results. He should not be poorer than these kinds of leagues if he wants to make liverpool's team eventually. I think, part of his problem is psychological. He needs a run of goals. The clock is ticking.. |

tbaba1234: I think the issue with Awoniyi is that too much was expected of him. I recall some here even opined he was better than Isaac Success. Some even said he deserved a place in the Liverpool 'A' Squad. I don't agree he has deteriorated as you put it. I would say his development has not been as fast as expected by many. I was one of those few that stood the ground that he was not even ready for that U23 Challenge. He is just 19. He should have even been part of this years WYC if we had qualified. The boy is still learning the ropes. Whether he will come out as a top striker for Nigeria or not even getting a call up at all, time will tell. 1 Like |

komekn: Awoniyi is just 19. We often fail to remember this. Hope is not lost on him yet. This is also one of the reasons I am so eager that Victor Osimhen starts playing. Osimhen will be 19 later this year and the only thing we know about him is his U17 exploits. His mates are already making big statements and we are still waiting on him. Just as you put it 'time waits for no one in football'. 3 Likes |

komekn: The point is simple. Did Okocha under achieve? Mikel, it is debatable because he was a regular player in an achieving run of Chelsea. Mikel did not play a flattering role but he was influential. When it concerns Martins, he was incredibly talented. Packed power shots in both feet. Blistering pace, one of the fastest in the game. Intelligent choices when in tight situation. Like in his early days at Inter Milan where he skinned Paolo Maldini and scored a brilliant goal. The hype of a Young Martins then and what was expected of him, he did not achieve it. It is as simple as that. Apart from the trophy haul of Inter Milan, Martins was not a player at the pinnacle of football after such flattery introduction to the game. He underachieved. |

Eagles Star Clears The Air On Playing World Cup 2018 Qualifiers For Free A senior player of the Super Eagles of Nigeria has reached out to the editor of this portal to speak on the reports of the players agreeing to play for free in the remaining World Cup 2018 qualifiers. ” Maybe your source didn’t explain to you in details. We had a meeting with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in London. We agreed that the issue of match bonus won’t make us downtool during the World Cup qualifiers. ” We pleaded with the NFF that we won’t hold the nation to ransom over bonuses, but they on their part have to pay us when they have money, not that we will play for free. ” Furthermore it was agreed that our bonus will be $5,000 for the 2019 Nations Cup qualifier against South Africa in June. So the issue of playing for free is a none starter”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com. Chelsea Loanee Abraham Eyes Championship Top Scorer Award www.nairaland.com/attachments/5180475_abraham_jpeg9e1cd56aded24ab38b9cd2ce9b72292c Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham has set his sights on winning the top scorer award in the Championship at the end of the season. With three games left before the end of the regular season, the England U21 international has scored 22 goals for Bristol City, three less than the leading marksman Leeds United's Chris Wood. “Everyone has helped me settle here, the fans have too – they’ve been brilliant,” said Abraham to Bristol City's official website. “It’s hard to describe; I’m just happy to be here and to keep scoring. “I just want to help keep the team in the division now and then my aim is to finish top scorer in the division.” If the goals Abraham scored in the League Cup and for England U21s are included in the mix, he has netted 27 goals in total for club and country so far this season. Icon4s: Bros the way football is going if you have not showed promise at 19 there is a problem. I watched Aluko's Fulham give Villa a football lesson and to add insult to Injury, Ryan thier 16 year old left back scored, that's 5 goals in 23 games exceptional for a left back, who is still only 16. Tammy is 19 and he is making a claim for much bigger things, 25 goals in the championship is not a joke. the two Dembele's making waves in Europe are under 20, Mbappe is 18. But I'm being harsh he is not on thier level. However, Awoniyi came with great expectations that he has so far failed to live up too. |

komekn: There are late starters in football. Not everyone who shines as a teenager makes it. Freddy Adu, Cherno Samba, Dominic Adiyiah, Nii Lamptey, etc show us things do not always go according to path. That's why I often hesitate to say that so and so player will be the highest goal scorer in Super Eagles or this person will become Nigeria's captain. Life happens. I can wager that some of those you listed WILL flatter to deceive at the end of the day. And there are those who shone in their late twenties. Marco Materazzi, Ole Gunnar Solsjaer, Rickie Lambert, Ian Wright and even Luca Toni are good examples to show that there are indeed late bloomers. I am afraid for Awoniyi, but your assumptions of him based on your examples are pedestrian. 1 Like |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 7:37pm On Apr 19, 2017 |
tbaba1234: Yeah. Also he is not much blessed with dribbling skills. This is where Osimhen has an edge over him. Then also he does not have the physical strength to out muscle defenders. That was very evident at the CAF U23. Which was a major reason I felt he was not ready for the challange at that level. Kanu Nwankwo at that age was about the least physical of strikers but he made up for that with his skills and trickery. You saw what he did as a 20yrs old at Atlanta '96. 1 Like |
