While I entered this thread to puncture the delusional bubbles of many of our African brothers here, I won't be sucked into bragging about Nigeria. grin I'm not gonna lie, this is one of the most effed up countries on the planet (so are most African nations). If I had to return to this planet and had a choice of nationality, this shiithole would hardly rank among my top 100 destinations. This kleptocracy is hopeless.

I also don't quite grasp those who brag about how "big" we are. If anything, our size is bloated and unwieldy and the colonial amalgamation is a colossal mistake we're still paying for today. What makes up today's Nigeria would be far more manageable broken up as anything between 2 and 6 different federating units. Half of Scottish people don't give a shiiit about being part of the mighty UK. They would love their small nation to cater for itself and forge alliances as it wishes. Catalans and Basque people don't care about bragging as proud members of a great Spain.

If you were a citizen of Switzerland or Sweden or Norway or Finland or Luxembourg, with proud cultures and the best standards of living in Europe, you'd hardly be jealous of a backward Russia just because they're far "bigger" than all those countries combined. Even tiny Monaco with a population of 37,000 never cared to merge with France.

I don't really care if Nigeria's economy is bigger than anyone's. I care more about the living standards of our citizens. Gabon has a far, far, far better economy than Nigeria and it's a small nation. I would be more proud to be Gabonese than Nigerian.

What do you mean by 'Kenya cities have better infrastructures..'?
Let's see, we have actual water companies that provide actual water. Unlike Nigeria where most Lagosians and Abujans rely on boreholes.Nairobi gets its water from Ndakaini,Sasumua and Ruiru dams in Central Kenya.
Mombasa pumps its water from Mzima Springs(near Mt Kilimanjaro),Baricho in River Galana and Shimba Hills.
Kikumu from Lake Victoria etc
We have stable power supply.
We do have tarmac roads that end at our doorsteps.
We have sewer systems even in the smallest towns like my rural home town has a sewer system that uses trickle technology to treat the water. The town barely has 10,000 people. And that is the norm across Kenya.
Nigeria has federal governments that basically provide little or no such services. In fact ,I read that Lagos got its sewer system in the 90s shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked.Eeerm.My rural town had its sewer system in the 50s.
and Piped water serves barely 20 percent of the population of Lagos. In Nairobi, even slums have water kiosks where they buy water from Nairobi water

Why are we arguing which country is better? Honestly why is this a debate? Can both countries not be great? Do you see the UK and US people arguing which country is better? It's the bottom of the barrel syndrome. Only crappy countries have this debate. Prosperous ones don't care. That said, I do appreciate the relatively level headed conversation between Nigerians and Kenyans. What sewer system? Only very few areas in Lagos have sewer systems. 99% of Nigerians construct their own septic pit with soak-away to dispose of sewage. Every few years, when it fills up, we call sewage disposal tankers that come and suck it up and dispose. There's no doubt that in terms of public utilities, Nigeria is one of the worst countries in Africa. Regardless, I highly doubt sewer systems are as widespread as you're making out in Kenya.

well , here you go "In 2015, 69% of the total population had access to "improved water supply". This was 80% of the urban population and 57% of the rural population. In 2015, around 58 million people lacked access to "improved" water. As for sanitation, only 29% of the total population had access to "improved" sanitation."

your also go ahead and understan how the water supply works
Water supply by cities
Abuja
Millennium Park in Abuja, whose water supply is being expanded.

Nigeria's capital Abuja receives part of its drinking water from the lower Usuma dam. The capacity of the plant that treats surface water from the dam’s reservoir was in the process of being increased in 2012 in order to cater for the growing population of the capital. The Guara dam, which was under construction in 2012, is expected to further increase water supply to Abuja and to mitigate against the risk of drought.[12] Wastewater is treated in a 131,200 cubic meters per day plant at Wupa that was completed in 2007. The Federal Capital Territory, through the Abuja Environmental Protection Board, has contracted a private operator to run the plant. However, when the government apparently failed to pay the operator he walked away, confronting the area with a pollution crisis.[13]
Lagos

Nigeria's largest city Lagos is surrounded by water from the sea and a lagoon. Its clean water supply in the city is about 81.32%.[citation needed] But since the raw water in the lagoon is too polluted, the city gets its water from Ogun River and Owo River. The city's oldest water treatment plant, located in Iju on the Ogun River, was built in 1910. It was expanded in stages to 45m gallons per day. Another smaller plant was built at Ishashi on the Owo River in the 1970s. The biggest plant so far was commissioned in 1991 in Adiyan with a capacity of 70m gallons per day. It also draws from the Owo River. There are also seven mini-waterworks drawing from local sources with a combined capacity of 18m gallons per day.[14] The Lagos Water Corporation states that the water produced in the plant meets the highest standards, and that it supplies "safe drinking water in sufficient and regular quantity to over 12.5 million people in Lagos State".[15] However, water is often contaminated in the distribution network and people distrust tap water quality.[16] Electricity supply interruptions prevent treatment plants from operating continuously.[17] However, a dedicated 12.15 MW power plant was under construction in 2012 to supply power to the Adiyan, Iju and Akute water treatment plants.[18] Households also source water from numerous private shallow wells.[18] Or households rely on street vendors, creating a thriving market for “sachet water”, purified water packaged in polyethylene pouches.[17] Water vendors called Mairuwa sell water from tanks and drums on carts, which is sometimes sold to other vendors that carry water in buckets or gerry cans.[18] Access to water provided by the state Water Corporation is 'metropocentric' i.e., centred around the metropolis.[19]
Makurdi

In Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, only about 25-30% of the population are served and inhabitants fetch raw water in buckets from the polluted Benue river. In 2008 the construction of a water treatment plant was left unfinished and officials were unable to account for USD 6 million. As of 2012, a water treatment plant was under construction as part of the Greater Makurdi Waterworks Project. According to Nat Apir, an independent water consultant, the lack of a modern distribution network will lead pipes to burst and the capacity of the plant is at risk of not being fully utilized.[20]
Other cities
The Northern city of Kano suffers from deficient water supply.

Kano is supplied from local rivers and from groundwater which is over-exploited. Public water supply is deficient, so that private water selling points are multiplying and generate profits for their private operators.[21] Kaduna receives drinking water from the Kaduna River. Ibadan receives its drinking water from Eleyele dam.
National policies and initiatives

Nigeria's National Water Supply and Sanitation Policy, approved in 2000, encourages private-sector participation and envisages institutional and policy reforms at the state level. However, little has happened in both respects. As of 2007, only four of the 37 states - Lagos, Cross River, Kaduna and Ogun States - began to introduce public-private partnerships (PPP) in the form of service contracts,[6] a form of PPP where the responsibility of the private sector is limited to operating infrastructure without performance incentives. While the government has a decentralization policy, little actual decentralization has happened. The capacity of local governments to plan and carry out investments, or to operate and maintain systems, remains low despite efforts at capacity development. Furthermore, the national policy focuses on water supply and neglects sanitation.

In 2003 a “Presidential Water Initiative (PWI): Water for People, Water for Life” was launched by then-President Olusegun Obasanjo. The initiative had ambitious targets to increase access, including a 100 percent water access target in state capitals, 75 percent access in other urban areas, and 66 percent access in rural areas. Little has been done to implement the initiative and targets have not been met.[6]

In 2011 the government voted in the United Nations in favor of a resolution making water and sanitation a human right. However, it has not passed legislation to enshrine the human right to water and sanitation in national law. The country is not on track to reach the Millennium Development Goal for water and sanitation.[18]

Since 2008 community-led total sanitation has been introduced in six states, with the support of UNICEF and the EU. While not being a national policy, apparently this grass-roots initiative has met with some success. More than 17,000 latrines have been built in 836 communities, and more than 100 of these communities have attained the goal of being declared free of open defecation.[22]
Water supply and sanitation in Nairobi
Water supply and sanitation in Nairobi is characterised by achievements and challenges. Among the achievements is the expansion of infrastructure to keep pace with population growth, in particular through the construction of the Thika Dam and associated water treatment plant and pipelines during the 1990s; the transformation of the municipal water department into an autonomous utility in 2003; and the more recent reduction of water losses – technically called non-revenue water – from 50 to 40%.[1]

Challenges include poor quality and intermittent water supply (only 40% of those with house connections receive water continuously),[2] the loss of storage capacity in reservoirs behind dams through siltation accelerated by erosion in the Aberdare Range,[3] lack of access to adequate sanitation in slums where half the population of the city lives, blockages of sewers resulting in overflows,[4] and unused capacity in the city's largest wastewater treatment plant in Dandora.[5] Another problem is political infighting and corruption, leading to the firing of the entire Board of the Nairobi Water Company in 2009.[6]
lastly,Gat a task for you ,"please compare the numbers of people that consummes water in lagos then compare it with kenya water consumption at large"
