I completely agree the lack of a dedicated assault gun/infantry support variant is not the most pressing concern for the Badger fleet since the Rooikat can be used in that role.

However, according to my understanding that's not the Rooikat's job. It is supposed to provide reconnaissance and undertake flanking actions as needed, not spend all its time backing up the Badgers and infantry.

The Rooikat was not designed as a replacement for the Ratel-90's role and shouldn't be regarded as such.

Incidentally, you mentioned substituting what we already have...that shouldn't be an issue if one puts the existing 90mm turret on the Badger.

In a strange way the rooikat did replace the ratel 90.

The ratel 90 was procured to replace the eland 90 and was used in the armerd car recon role. It was seen as more mobile. The eland 90 all so originally was used many times to provide fire support. In fact SSB the active duty battalion with rooikats all so uses ratels and is one of the units that will replace the it ratels with badgers.

For me the FSV badger should of been 4 ingwen ATGM and the 30mm. Could of usef a ingwen with a therobaric warhead.

That report isn't correct, just sensationalist. There is no credible evidence to support it.

We as Nigerians should be very careful how we decipher/perceive News there are still quite a few Countries and organizations who do not want this deal to go through, I personally detests Trump , however I will give the devil his due if this deal goes through,In contrasts Obama wavered and wavered and fell back into the comfort liberal zone of the left wing of the State department that constantly advised him about this deal, much as I really admire Vickky's opinions ,I beg to differ with her on this .I believe as this deal gets closer and closer we will hear the shrieks from AI get louder and louder.
I am"skeptically" optimistic that this deal will go through with a lot of nonsense being spewed out into the public, it however is unlikely that it will cost $600m.
The report on the US Imports of Nigerian crude is a completely separate story( it was in the news last week), the US resumed importing oil on a full time basis as far back as 2016, Oil imports and the prices that go with them are agreed upon at least a month in advance so as to avoid the volatility of the oil prices and one has nothing to do with the other, furthermore and very specifically No contract or MOU has been signed between the two govts however the Oil import contracts tend to be signed on a month to month basis.
What is on the cards for Nigeria procurement wise ( MOU signed)
* The JF -17 DEAL
**THE G2- G2 DEAL FOR 12 HELIOS from Russia and judging from the body language from the Defence Minister and the CAS expect more
*** The Assembly line for the APC .

Please substantiate the bold claim @Henry120.

He was referring to the armed UAVs in Yola, Adamawa state launching attack in Borno state. It's well over 200km.

The SANDF will never have the budget to use Ingwe's for fire support. Even in the old days, very few ZT3's were shot during training.
That's why you need a cheap bomb slinger to do fire support. As good as a 30mm is, it will never be very effective against bunkers buildings etc.
Just doesn't have the volume to carry enough HE for the job.

It does not make sense spending this much on defense. This should be spent on the citizens, schools, university, infrastructure, housing, agriculture,.....

Lol without defense, citizens schools univerties infrastructure housing agriculture... Will be destroyed. We need to modernise our armed forces acquire new capabilities then you will see Nigeria growing faster better or otherwise this will be a jock... South-south insurgency Pipeline destroyed ( Trilions of Naira destroyed ) north east insurgency infrastructure school universities houses busness ... Destroyed ( Trillions of Naira destroyed ).
In reality the only way to have peace is true power.

There can be no development without security. Besides in Nigeria, spending on Education, Agriculture and Security by far surpasses what is spent on defence.

Henry, something happened within 6 weeks to Election where BHT were being bombard from time to time. I think we need to do that again to degrade BHT capability by 60-70% more.

Government should call for it's members to surrender within 3 days and during that, the NAF should conduct serious ISR in tracking BHT locations over NE.

For these( We need the the Yahbon UAV)

After 3 days of flying ISR, the NAF should launch a massive attack on BHT locations simultaneously(destroy training camps, ammunitions depot etc) and whenever ground troops need to follow up, the Tucano, Mi-24/35 and CH3 should be ready to come in hot.

We need to go back on full offensive. NAF should also share combat footages to get more encouragements from the common man(citizens).

Mmmh

OK after spending it then insurgents/terrorists come blow it up in one go. Then march to parliament and take the country because the military doesn't have equipment.

But with marginalisation and lack of development young people in rural areas will feel marginalised and that's where terror groups like BH/ISIS get there recruits.

A strong military can never be a guard against its own people who feel they have no hope for the future. The best way to stop terror is to cut of there supply of fresh recruits, and the only answer to that is inclusive development.

Give people hope for their future and they will in turn suppress any anti nationalist stance.

Theoretically yes, reality says otherwise.

If a developed country like the US can just decide to get rid of its security forces because "everyone is being provided for", I can bet you that right-wingers and Tea Party guys would break the territory into pieces of their own independent estates. In South Africa, KwaZulu Natal would break away first then followed by the Boerevolkstaat with their imaginary promise land then the Western Cape if the SANDF could stop to exist as we know it.

It's not always about inclusion, lack of security gives people wrong ideas.
