I don't throw insults, i see no need for that on the internet. I usually leave the insult slinging to the retards. (They know themselves).

Anyway moving on. To answer your question, The NAF Purchased 12 Chengdu F-7 Interceptors and 3 FT-7 DUAL SEAT TRAINERS. incase you didnt know.

secondly, The F-7 is a Mig-21 clone out of a long line of clones. It was a defective aircraft from the start although it was good at dog-fighting other less modern aircraft. Its nose is way to small to mount any decent air-air radar system (forget the outdated grifon radar). It has no look down. shoot down capability, it has extremely short combat radius. Questionable BVR missile capability, t'was optimised for GCI only operation during its early years. its un-reliable, (we already lost four -- incase you dont know thats a lot considering how many we have).

well i don't fault the plane because that what we deserve for choosing mediocrity.

But how come your men prefer attacking people instead of reasoning first? I clearly stated 'an airforce of trainer and transport plane' which is TOTALLY CORRECT yet they didn't blink just jump into the attack. so expectantly!!

TO BUTTRESS MY POINT TO THOSE WHO CANT THINK. WE HAVE FOUR TRAINER PLATFORMS AND ONE INTERCEPTOR PLATFORM.

L-39ZA

Aermacchi MB-339

WHILE HAVING MORE THAN EIGHT TRANSPORT PLATFORMS.
ATR 42
Boeing 737
C-130 Hercules
Aeritalia G.222

Dornier Do 228
Super King Air
Fslcon 7X

plus others

so my assertion was spot on.

As.sli.cking aside am i not correct? we have more trainers and transport planes than the whole west African air force combined. Instead of your men to reason objectively they just jumped into the attack. Its so predictable. Even the Air force guys don't defend the Air Force as much as they do.

Ahah kai... Look you said it your self 4 diferent training platform... Buying military equipment is not like going to the market you cant buy what ever you want at any moment ... Marshall said it even if you have the cash they wont sell it to you... We buy what we can but things are slowly changing... Everybody knows that we have to standardise everything thats why many things are being done.. Look at how we struggle to buy super tucano ... Tucano a COIN jet ... But yet blok two times by the us goverment and this time maybe we will get them ... We had Jags what happen ? Brand new and one of the best if not the best at the time what happen ? You must understand the situation and be grateful to our pilots than saying those kind of stuff. Ask everybody yes we all want F-22 in the inventory but we all know that it is dificult. Time to time we are all frustrated, but dont expose it everywhere.... And you must appreciate when something good is being done... Right now the Air Force is far better than few years back... We see many made in Nigeria product the best strategy for having a good air force, we are going to build a Prop/transport plane... If you look at our new acquisition is very standardise Attack Heli ( omly MI 35M ) good infrastructure for the personel, Special Forces.. Even in communication look at the media they are more professional.. modern stuff all over the place and this is the begining... so stop pls.. In few years you will see how the air force will be .. And our armed forces at large. And we are 4th strongest military in africa according to Global fire power...

this is the last am commenting onthis topic.

sincerely i know how things are with buying and integrating new modern military technology. I know that it is difficult, with the ever dwindling funds availaible. Plus world politicking et al... Believe it or not few people here follow defense related news and information online more than me--insults aside. Heck i even have a military news blog. so i know what am talking about.

The problem is not with me but with some people here who don't want a contradictory response. When they say Nigeria is the best in the world we should all shout 'YESSIR!!' when deep down we know that we are seriously lacking. I just posted a honest-to-God comment based on our fighter to TRAINER/TRANSPORT ratio and i was expecting a really intelligent counter-argument instead all i got was a fast screeching dive-bombing assault from the Nigerian Defense forces guys here.

Ask them to rein-in their horses instead and not me.

Cameroon Airforce Dassault AlphaJet NGEA (Nouvelle Génération École/Appui) or MS2 as commonly known. It differs from other versions Alpha Jets such as the A and the E by the addition of a laser range finder on the nose. This gives the Alpha Jet MS2 or NGEA an advantage during ground attacks. There is also the addition of;
-A glass cockpit,
-A Thomson CSF VE-110 head-up display (HUD),
-SAGEM ULISS 81 inertial navigation
system (INS),
-Thomson CSF/CNI AHV-9 radar altimeter,
-SFIM CG90 back-up heading reference sensor.
All this additional sensors permits the aircraft to have air to ground options such as;
-Continuously computed impact point (CCIP),
-Delayed CCIP
-Continuously computed release point (CCRP),
-CCRP/Initial Point.
The weapon load for this version are Marvrick Air to Surface Missiles, Exocet Anti Ship Missile, Rockets and Laser Guided Bombs. For air to air missions they can carry 2 Magic II or III missiles or AIM-9 Sidewinders.
This versions were exported to 2 countries only CAMEROON and EGYPT

if someone here is lamenting about Nigerian military in a wrong light...just CONSTRUCTIVELY correct or educate the person in such a clear and simple ways that such negative lamentations will be neutralized in the mind of the lamentator. And if you can't do this, then ignore the person.

You guys are making this thread boring already...with all these childish tantrums about NAF's capability.

I understand that by our military code, we don't can't dabbled into politics which is why many people on this thread find it hard to accommodate such personal lamentations...notwithstanding, we do not need to jump in a mud to save a man sinking in that mud.

Over and out !

hahahaha.. The JF-17 is a natural progression from the F-7 an excellent dogfighting platform. but you have to understand that aerial warfare this days is more than dogfighting which you already know. its an excellent aircraft for Nigeria standard.

Actually, one of the reasons the ZT-3 was chosen as a beamrider was because of experiences with using Milans in the bush.
The reconnaissance reg. used them in some sabre vehicle ops. and the wires got tangled up in branches all the time. Milans were so ineffective that they went back to using recoilless guns on their vehicles.

The first ZT-3's fired by Hannes Nortman and his Ratels against FAPLA tanks were actually pre-production prototypes. The engineers at Kentron were busy with using them as testing rounds when they were taken and put into action in Angola during Moduler on pre-production vehicles.

Yes I heard the ones in the field were pre-production models, much like the G6s.

In his book The SADF in the Border War Leopold Scholtz states that a Ratel ZT3 was called up against the Cuban T-55s in Operation Hilti/Displace but couldn't fire due to the thick bush. In the end the tanks had to be engaged by the Olifants.

Apparently, this wasn't an issue with the FAPLA tanks Nortmann destroyed earlier because they were emerging onto a flat flood plain.

I assumed this was the reason they weren't used more often, but perhaps I was mistaken?

yeah I know.. anything less than an AESA is totally rubbish. if TRUE then it would boost our air defense posture astronomically especially when its paired with a very capable AA missile. Am more focused on air defence first before any other thing.

We get your point boss but it's wrong to base your assumptions on Internet data without close first hand facts. The F-7NI is a 3rd Gen platform with a lot of modifications carried out. There is a reason it's called "F-7NI" or can we say F-16 is junk because they started production in the seventies. During my training in the US I got to fly and closely evaluate the said they have this and that world class systems (not putting them down) and saw reality.some of the things you listed up about F7-NI are incorrect my boss.
Truly poor leadership and lack of vision has robbed us of our expected levels but common baba we don't deserve to be tagged that way.

surprisingly the mig21 fishbird and SU 22 fitter is still my favorite airplanes ever.. . not because it is overly modern but because it is PRACTICAL. Its like a warhorse that is very reliable, it dealt a serious blow to the US,during the Vietnam war and also trashed the Pakistanis during the Indo-Pak conflict.

With that said Please Understand I do not have anything against the aircraft. in short I do not have anything against any platform or weapon system in the whole of Nigeria. i appreciate how resourceful the militarymen are in utilities such systems in the face of overwhelming odds. I no it isnt easy getting anything this days.

somebody above even said that we cannot have the F22 raptor...... like I care about the raptor?? hmm

Nairaland is one forum out of tons of others online and I contribute there too but only here that you cant just bare your mind without opening a hornet nest while all the time you just want a serious unbiased counter opinion where all will learn.

instead you only get insults and not an iota of sensible contribution.

its not possible to only post pictures without once in a while discussing about pictures posted.

But how come you get to compare F7 with F16?

I would love to hear your opinion about the two maybe in the other thread.

anything unclassified although the US isnt too rigid concerning classification of the teen series aircrafts except the F-14 Tommy.

whats your verdict on the two in WVR engagement
o maneuverbility
o turn radius
o Rate Of Climb
o general sexiness
e.t.c

most people might not know that the Mig 21 is very stealthy and many country has experimented with varous RAM coatings to make it more steathy like the F35.
