But a lot of ppl say that Menelik fighted Italians till some part of the Northern region of ET but then came back. He couldn't rescue some part of the Northern region (present day Eritrea).

Endinet had perfectly explained the battle of Adwa to you, but I want to add some interesting points.

After the battle of Adwa ended, many Askaris(Eritrean) POW were taken by Ethiopia army. There was 2 opinions raised to what to do with them. Menelik opinion was, all Askaries to be beaten by 80 lashes and Ras Mekonene opinion was, all Askaries one arm and one leg to be cut. The reason for his cruel idea was, because the Askaries were in huge problems with his father Emperor Yohannes IV before. Menelik was very against this cruel idea, but after a serious debate, Menelik granted his wish, because he didn't want to escalate the situation. All the Askaries one arm and leg was cutted. Most of them died after because of it. But the Italians POW were treated goodly.

In the 1936, the Italians conquered us , but in 1960 Rome Olympic, Abebe Bikila conquered them also.
