it seems that IWI has developed a 7.62x51mm Tavor , most probably for Indian Army tender.

it was displayed at Punj Lloyd new arms manufacturing facility inauguration function.

IWI plans to make ALL of the sub-assemblies for all of their small arms in India to be exported to Israel where they will be assembled and sent to their various customers . IWI has tied up with India's Punj Lloyd to manufacture small arms including assault rifles, such as Tavor 21 and Galil, under technology transfer arrangement. Punj Lloyd has recently inaugurated a plant in central India with the help of IWI and the production of small arms will begin here this year. ‎

TOT 99% of the time is involved with toolings fabrication etc only , a country will give the documentation, machinery and teach u to fabricate the concerned weaponry.

they will never transfer the core technologies related to the same.

let me give u a example

when the Indians asked for heat resistance fiber technology for small arms, no country was willing to transfer the same, so Indians had to work hard and come up with their own solution and today India manufactures heat resistance fiber components which is way better than what imported ones offered them.

initially the INSAS barrel had issues at extreme cold environment where anti-freeze became freeze or worst, no country would help the Indians. so again India had to work hard to develop the solutions.

the Indians approached Finland for help and they agreed to it in return of corresponding scientific exchange and equivalent tech. transfer from the Indians.

finally Indians got their metallurgy for barrel and improved it with their own local solutions so much so that it proved better than most out there and works at extreme Himalayan cold as well as high Thar heat and one of the most moist areas over the globe.

Hi nemesis

A Swedish firm is interested In getting into the Nigerian defence sector.

The firm is a manufacturer of light-weight, high performance gyro-stabilized electro-optical systems with both EO and IR capabilities. And also, small, light-weight long-wave thermal imagers.

What are the ways they can fully tap into the Nigerian defence space?

common way is to tie up with a local company which will help them to get acclimated with the ground situation and understand the needs of the forces. so they will be able to put forward a tailor made portfolio of products and services through their local co-partner . this way they dont have to get into the bureaucratic hassles of the local country which will be handled by their local partner.

this partnership can progress to include co-development which includes customization or even joint development.

also the concerned Swedish firm has or will do a feasibility study on the local company they r looking to tie up to ascertain their capability , reputation and influence etc.

another way is to directly contact the armed forces bypassing the need of a local intermediary/company.

if the company is looking at a bigger role in Africa ie serve other African countries then setting up offices in Nigeria through a fully owed subsidiary or through a joint partnership is the best option in the long run.

also i had replied to ur previous query u asked in the henry's african pictures thread .

incase u missed the reply i have posted it below and it is from the perspective of the local company looking to join hands with the foreign company

nemesis2u:

since the foreign firm contacted ur company in the first place ,

then its given that they did their homework , they already have the detailed outline as to the work share / role being envisaged for ur firm

it will now depend on ur company to do an internal audit of its capabilities ,negotiate their level of involvement in the proposed tie up.

generally if a company is new to a certain sector , and they decide to tie up with a foreign company then they usually at first go for sales and servicing of relevant products identified as best suited for the countries armed forces. this may involve customization's and setting up of considerable MRO facilities which increases the learning curve .

this gets the local company significant exposure/insight and allows them to tailor their strengths, so as to increase their level of involvement in the project both technically and financially in a gradual manner within reasonable investments.

since the foreign firm is a manufacturer of light-weight, high performance gyro-stabilized electro-optical systems with both EO and IR capabilities. together with small, light-weight long-wave thermal imagers.

my advice (if u guys r new to the field ) is to first get together and identify products best suited for ur countries forces , this will require ur company to cooperate with ur forces to access their needs both present and future.

once a portfolio of products r identified , next step is to do the relevant documentation etc so that any customization / improvement needed to make it attractive to ur forces can be identified for subsequent work.

next step is to do documentation on integration and related testing , validation etc

i dont think u guys will go for TOT adhoc , tot will be progressive and matched to ur skills and productionizing capabilities , which will improve over time.

private companies usually play it safe initially , their risk taking /investment is proportional to their profits the get in.

EO systems / imagers r very technology intensive so if u guys want to jump in , be prepared for a long haul , and that is half of the problem integration is also tough becz u will need to take care of the platforms performance with the system installed, possibly with minimum loss of performance etc (u will require experience on the platform)

but never say never

becz it has been designed to be so

actually it is around 3-4 years , but this is not the end , for the Indian SF forces training is a continuous process so as long ur active u will need to train/retrain as deemed by the laid down rules.

training period is different for different SFs

eg.

Para (Special Forces) go through a probationary period of 7 months to be a Para (Special Forces) , provided they had first qualified as Paratroopers.

then they have to apply for SF selection , if selected , the initial training to be a SF operator is 3.5 years.

also at the end of training they r sent to active areas for combat duties , at the end of tour them come back for further specialized training. this process is repeated.

have u heard of the special group (SG), it is the equivalent of CIAs special activities division.

sadly i dont use social sites

let me show u a way, where u can begin

if u want to know more about the business + technical side of EO systems and imagers , use google to search for RFI (request for info) and request for proposal (RFP) documents, pdfs relating to the above systems.

it will exponentially help u to increase ur knowledge especially with regard to technical specifications , know hows etc.
it will help to get a grasp of the processes involved in the procurement, joint development etc if u follow up the info u found through more searching.

u have to be persistent

most countries armed force etc download these RFI etc from internet to use it as a template and simply insert/delete some info to suit their needs. grin

Turkish anti drone laser weapon

only from a technical point of view .

what if i cover these DJ type drones with high performance anti laser reflective coatings, will it be enough to deflect laser beams from a low power laser weapon ?

couple them with on board sensors to raise alarm of being lased , the coating will buy the drone enough time to fly out of range of the short range laser weapon without serious damage

2 types of countries have very large paramilitary forces

1.extreme security states (eg.china, N korea) where the dictator or the single party forces its writ on its citizens.

2.extreme democratic states (eg. india) where the citizens forces their writs on its government by any means possible.

see such a beautiful and concise explanation , almost poetic grin grin grin
