What if he isnt up to par in talent relative to others competing for spot on the team? Abi na guarantee he go just walk into this national team??

And no... the argument took a new turn when you said The Coach carter system cannot work here for Nigerian kids and our kids will or can not adapt.

You also said it is impossible to get an Olodo Rabata to be teachable... and I gave you Ben Carson, gave another Albert Einstein... and gave you my own personal experiences and observations in bits.

And I recall one of the earliest points I made is this in response to TheGoodJoe's early question in the discussion:

"If a special talent is finding is difficult passing a class, he won't be stopped from playing the game but rather encouraged and a way found and created to adjust the learning approach and methods to suit the child's learning needs/abilities/and more...... because he is special, a much more dynamic way is forged to make him move on while he loses nothing on field"

This has been my words... and you were okay with it... so how come in response to Sir Terzurum5 you now shift it all and say we are forcing the child....??

Icon4s:

If my child says he doesn't want to continue with school but face football instead, then no coach must stop my child from playing for the national team because he is no longer interested in going to school.

That has been my argument.

Red Hot Olarenwaju Kayode Confirms Invitation For Nigeria Friendly Vs Corsica But….

Austria Wien forward Olarenwaju Kayode has dismissed reports that he has been dropped from the Super Eagles squad for their friendly game against Corsica later in the month.

The forward who has 21 goals for Austria Wien is presently the top scorer among Nigerian players in Europe. His form lead to a call up to the Nigerian team, making his debut in the game against Senegal in London.

23 year old Kayode is rumoured to be among the players dropped by the manager but the player has informed Owngoalnigeria.com through his close associate that he is in the squad for the game.

” Kayode got his invitation for the game via mail last week, and spoke with the coach about a convenient date with him since the league in Austria will still be on when the camp opens”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” Rohr suggested two dates to him and he picked 29th which by then the game would have been played, and the date is also just a day after the conclusion of the league in Austria.

” So in a nutshell he has been granted permission by Rohr to miss the Corsica game but will be in camp ahead of the game against South Africa”.

I already know your answer.... Looolll

This is why the question goes to Chief Icon4s.... not to you.

And again... I didnt say "after secondary school"... I said before or during the course of secondary school. Since I am being accused of forcing kids to learn when they don't want to.

Your talk on emotional blackmail bla bla bla... is off point. I know what kind of parent I am going to be. But this is a simple question for the the one who says a child should not be forced to even learn in high school since football is his calling. I wanna know What his stand will be if this child happens to be his very own child as I know he is a father already.

And it is not my way... and it is not the only way... I have told you times without number.... Life is the real school. So stop misunderstanding me.

@Bolded... if you think I am not aware of this. Then you underrate me big time. Haven't I said I hate the limiting sides of our current educational system?? Haven't I said I seek a change to it? why do you choose to keep ignoring what I say in order to make a point that does not even relate to me?? *smh*

because you keep asking these mundane hypothetical questions that are highly unnecessary.

Except YOU want to start up any of such programmes, there is no need to start taking surveys.

I have suggested what YOU can do to help any of those boys if you are so bent on education, but even you no dey read wetin people dey talk. You just keep going

The argument was on a highly talented child being deprived of an opportunity to play because he does not meet up academically. The variable here is the child's academic performance and not talent. The talent is not in doubt so it a given or constant.

"Deprived just because he does not measure up academically". That is the argument.

Depriving a child from playing because he does not measure up talent-wise is the right thing and no sane person would pick up an argument about that.

And once again you are being careless with your semantics 'cannot' and 'will not'. I want you to quote any comment I made in regards coach carter system that I used any of those exact word(s) and or phrase.

Mundane to you because you find the coach carter concept SENSELESS remember?? No noble work is ever found sensible at the beginning.... so you seeing it as senseless is a good one. Wonder what happened to being open-minded?

And this is a discussion about What can help our kids get the best of both worlds.... are we gonna stop discussing because we are not in positions to get the ball rolling?? is that what you are getting at?

And your suggestion was noted... but you chose to skip the posts where I mentioned in response to another that Homeschooling for those who don't fancy the idea of institutional learning is one idea I buy.... abi u no see am?? Now who is the one not reading "wetin pesin dey talk".... but noooo, you keep going by dropping points that are off-point and running them in my face as if I don't understand what is going on.

In discussions like this, You don't just read because you wanna respond and counter... you read to understand and find a meeting point for both sides of a discussion. Na wa ooo

so, you are waiting for NFF to offer you a job to restructure educational system and help footballers learn?

See, you did not read my suggestion. You are just touting another man's idea up and down as if you came up with it and you think it is a NOBLE idea, based on what? Because you endorsed it?

Nigga, you need to do what you ask others to do on this thread, I suggested a way to reach out and educate these boys without you sitting and waiting for one NFF person to approach you, but did you read it?

No, because I did not mention Coach Carter, the most brilliant man in the history of American sports.

I told you to think of a plan that will work in Nigeria, but you are not interested in doing that. No, let's just implement the Coach Carter way because it worked in America. Even in the developed UK, they are yet to implement such, but you think we should try it here.

You won't come up with a new plan that can work here, somebody else suggested, you won't even read it and comprehend, but you think stealing some other guy's idea is noble.

If you're quoting me again, it should only be to ask how we can implement the plan I came up with that is actually FEASIBLE, rather than this Coach Carter BS

Forget about the use of Cannot and will not.... My posts were well labeled and explained... and even when I said "Can work" (and I majorly said "Can Work" and u even acknowledged that you understand the mix-up even when I used will work- which I did coz I was trying to stress a point).... you still didn't bulge about your position on the concept working in Nigeria... you went on and on about me not grasping the realities on ground.... and implied centrally that the system cannot work for our kids. You also kept making use of Olodo rabatas description.

If you said it may work, or let us give it a try.... Would we be having this debate?? Na wa oooo.... isn't it clear how this part of the debate began?

And the argument on the highly talented child was already settled in one of my earlier posts and my thoughts shared summarily again in the post you just quoted before this angle of the debate saying "Coach carter concept cannot work in Nigeria" began......

On the issue of forcing.... which was never the issue while we debated... you made the comment while making a point to another and now I asked you if your child was in a scenario that have him wanting to leave school before he finishes secondary school sef... would you allow it? You have answered that one... and no, your child is not the super and highly talented example.... he is just a kid who is convinced his destiny lies I'm football and not schooling... don't shift the goal post on that one.... your child and the issue of the special talent is different..... as simple as that.

And no you didnt use any phrase directly but you implied simply that the coach carter concept cannot work for all as regards those combining football(or any sports at all) and Education. Then I made use of "will work" when stressing how it worked from scums of the earth in black america, in ghetto slums and all....

Then I always reverted back to my "Can work", " effective", and "results-laden". Chikena....

And U.K is the standard to follow abi?? because they haven't tried something out we shouldn't abi? what sort of mentality is that sef? what are you saying Safari? *smh*

**Anyway shaa... for your info.... some of the top academies in England ran by the big clubs do apply a similar concept sef... fashioned according to their own ideals or wants... The boys you see at U-12s all the way up to U-18s are exposed to some good education too.... I recall Rashford was attending school when he made his man utd debut while being a part of Man utd famed academy**

Who is waiting on the NFF? do you even understand the meaning of Grand-scale idea. The coach carter system is a Grand-scake idea... I have witnessed it work. I have observed it... so what you are saying all over the thread about not wanting all because the name "America" is attached to it is bollocks in my books and in the books of open-mindedness.

And yes... it is a noble idea... I know exactly how it can be twitched to suit the Nigerian System. I know what must be done and introduced to make it work... it is noble because it has changed many lives who share the same skin color like our children.... it has changed people with same Melanin under our skins. Why fight it so venomously? All because you speak of your idea? If your idea is so simple and can be applied without fuss why haven't you stepped up and done a little something about it then?

The coach carter concept is grander and can be revolutionary in our combined educational/Sports system if applied but ofcos it will require minds in the right places to make it happen. I am one of such minds... and I am growing personally. I have personal goals but I also love the beautiful game and want our kids getting the best of both worlds.... and not ending up like most of our ex-internationals today.

And talking about thinking of a plan that will work in Nigeria.... The coach carter concept can work in Nigeria... Haven't you been listening?? Chaaaiiiiii... and you have been listening abi? You want a plan that will work in Nigeria.... right? Well... here it is... for the best and most effective results... the coach carter concept will work... if you don't like... that's fine... you find it senseless? that is okay.. you term it bullshit? no wahala... but this is it... my answer to you... but you chose to ignore it and keep asking questions I have already answered since the beginning of the debate of "What can work in Nigeria?"

About Feasibility.... the coach carter concept is feasible.... and if yours according to you is much simpler, and much more feasible... then I suppose you have figured it all out naa? why ask for my opinion?

Didn't I also agree to the homeschooling alternative brought up by another and mentioned by you in one of your posts....? But you are hell bent on ditching the coach carter concept because it is from "America" albeit "black america" that has worked wonders and continue to work wonders on kids.... for your "go to the street" idea which hasn't even been applied.... but which I am also not against.... but only asking why you treat a noble and tested alternative that has worked in black kids as trash.

smh... funny.

Five Star Super Eagles Defender Leon Balogun Rated Best Player For German Side

Super Eagles and Mainz 05 defender Leon Balogun was rated the best player for his side in their 0-0 draw against Hamburg in the German Bundesliga.

The tie which is significant to his team chances of beating the drop saw Balogun making his first start in the league since the start of the year, and the 28 year old proved his manager right with a man of the match performance.

Balogun lasted the entire duration of the game, and was given a rating of 7.8 by respected website Whoscored.com, the highest rating among all the players on parade for Mainz 05.

Stefan Bell was the next player rated highly for Mainz 05, as he got a rating of 7.5, less than Balogun, who is expected to resume his partnership with William Troost-Ekong when Nigeria play Corsica in a friendly game.

The partnership with Troost-Ekong has been given the nickname “Oyibo Wall”, and it has emerged as the favourite of coach Gernot Rohr of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Chelsea Loanee Omeruo Blows Hot – Playing For Chelsea Is No Longer My Priority

On loan Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo says playing for Chelsea is no longer his aim, rather going to any team where he is sure of getting games next season is his target in the summer.

Omeruo is yet to make a senior appearance for the Blues since joining in January 2012, with his current loan spell with Alanyaspor of Turkey his fourth in a row in the last three seasons.

Heavily linked with a return to Chelsea in the summer, the 23 year old insist returning to Chelsea is not his priority for now, and won’t mind a permanent transfer from the club despite extending his contract till 2019 in the summer.

“It might happen that I get to play for Chelsea but it is no longer my immediate priority,” Omeruo told BBC Sport.

“You have no idea how frustrating it is to always go out on loan,” added the Nigeria defender.

“Last season I had an opportunity to go to one of Turkey’s biggest clubs [Besiktas] but the deal collapsed two days to the end of the transfer window,” he added.

“My priority is to play at the top, to find a place where I get to play regularly.

“Next season will be interesting because I’m looking to be in one of the top leagues, so we’ll see what happens.”

BABAYARO: MOSES HAS THRIVED BECAUSE OF CONTE’S MANAGEMENT

Crystal Palace's Yohan Cabaye (left) and Chelsea's Victor Moses battle for the ball
by Graeme Jackson

Former Chelsea player Celestine Babayaro believes Antonio Conte’s management style has helped his fellow Nigerian Victor Moses thrive at the Blues this season.

Moses spent most of his first four years at Chelsea on various loans spells and looked surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

However, the arrival at Conte and the implementation of a 3-4-3 system has seen Moses thrive as a right wingback.

The Nigerian is on course to win a Premier League and FA Cup double.

“I was at Stamford Bridge speaking to Victor the other day and said I was amazed at how quickly he has adapted to his new role,” former Chelsea player Babayaro is quoted by the Mirror.

“He agreed and said it was all down to Conte, and the way he has coached him. He goes through everything so that you know when to go and when to stay.

“It is the same with the whole team. He works with everyone as individuals and as a team, drills them so they know exactly what they are doing.

“If an opponent moves one way, they all know where they should be. He is a typical Italian coach.”

Babayaro added, “At first he found it difficult and went on loan to Stoke, West Ham and Liverpool.

“But he has found himself under Conte. He has not been out of the team apart from when he has been injured, and in his first season as a regular, it looks like he could win the double.”

If you can't pass and you can't play, wetin the pikin go fall on in the future? grin
While growing, I was told to take fooball as a hobby and not a profession. Reason being that there are limited amount of star at a time. I kinda agree with the no pass no play principle if discretion can be applied. i.e some few exceptions to the general rule. For instance, a serious child who still fails to cut it might be excused. Even at that, a child should put extra effort.
Where a child is non-challant, what is the assurance he'll be among the few stars who'll make? Where does he fall back to if he lose at both end?

We know people have made it without formal education but that number is ridiculously low in comparison to successful educated cats.

Thanks man.... the teaching personnel will be carefully selected and then exposed to how the concept will work. because we need dedication and Patience on the part of the teachers on the academic side to ensure that no child is left behind even as the football coaches on the sports side do their thing with keenness and professionalism....( and room for exceptions as regards super exceptional talents will be made too in case he or she struggles academically... a newer and better approach will be fashioned for him or her according to how he or she can learn best and every child has a way of being reached out to..... "Like stars on earth" a movie that tells of a real life story of a boy with a neurological problem called Dyslexia who was reached out to and made sound enough academically thru the efforts of just one teacher's dedication and Patience).

How sustainable? well, The Nigerian Mentality is what it is... every environment has their general mentality but again we deal with kids.... kids between 11-18 are almost the same all over the world based on traits common to preteens and teens.....

Though it is true a child forms his/her core personality between ages 2-7.... I believe. But basically kids the world over are still explorers and curious even at ages 11-18 and can still be fashioned and moulded to fit certain systems and situations.

I believe when the parents see that the child will be the better for it then they will have no choice but to support the child (who has love for playing the game) also in his venture into the two worlds of sports(football in this case) and education.

By how sustainable, I'm considering the teacher to student ratio. Since teachers will need to be carefully selected it means you can only reach a few students since patience will be needed in this individualized teaching system.

Sounds to me the the system cannot rrach hundreds and hundreds of talented kids waiting to be nurtured, since duplication will be highly challenging.

The teacher to students ratio will be well sorted... and yes the teachers have to be selected... we have a great number of teachers in Nigeria and more are still rising. And selection will have to be done because this system has a target for the kids. It is goal-oriented. So the teachers have to be picked and exposed to the system... that won't be difficult really. smiley

And talking of the number of talented kids.... you have to consider the size each school can take. So this is why it has to be a widespread thing but before that... we have to give it a test-run for about 6years maximum since people wanna know what they will be getting into and what benefits would result. We have to employ what I call "the doubters' test" wink

Joebie:
By how sustainable, I'm considering the teacher to student ratio. Since teachers will need to be carefully selected it means you can only reach a few students since patience will be needed in this individualized teaching system.

Sounds to me the the system cannot meet the needs of the hundreds and hundreds of talented kids.

Paul ” Nigerian Crouch” Onuachu Pressing For Rohr’s Attention With 19th Goal Of The Season

The goal scoring form of FC Midtjylland Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu continued over the weekend with the striker netting his 19th goal of the season in their 4-2 win over Broendby IF.

Onuachu opened the floodgate of goals for his side with his goal in the 36th minutes before his Nigerian counterpart at the club Rilwan Hassan doubled the tally for his side in the 55th minute.

A brace from Mikkel Duelund completed the rout for Midtjylland who are eyeing a spot in next season Europa League and are currently pushing for it via the playoffs in Denmark.

22 year old Onuachu now has 19 goals this season, scattered around games in the Superligaen (9), Europa League Qualifiers (2), Superligaen Championship Round (5) and DBU Landspokal (3).

Owngoalnigeria.com exclusively gathered that he is among the players coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr plans to invite in the future.

Monaco, West Brom Target Moses Simon Favourite To Land Best Player Of The Season Award For Gent

Super Eagles of Nigeria forward Moses Simon is leading two other Nigerian players in the race to be crowned Most Valuable Player (MVP) of Belgian club Gent.

Moses is nominated alongside his Nigerian compatriot Anderson Esiti and Samuel Kalu for the prestigious award, which is given out in memory of Jean -Claude Bouvy after two rounds of votings to the player with the highest vote.

However he is facing stiff competition from the likes of Yuya Kubo, Jeremy Perbet, Lovre Kalinic, Samuel Gigot, Stefan Mitrovic, Rami Gershon and last year winner Nana Asare.

The forward is finishing the season on a strong note after a slow start to the season, but he is now set for a spell on the sideline after injuring his hamstring before their game this weekend against KVV Oostende.

Sounds like a long term plan to me that's if it will succeed. It would take about about 2 decades or so for us to determine the overall benefit of the system based on first test run. Ask me why if you have not already figured out. remember the context for now is our football talents.

Mikel Will Be Key Against Cameroon - Rohr

Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has reiterated that skipper, Mikel Obi remains a key figure in the team ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

The former Chelsea star who's still recovering from a successful surgery he underwent in London recently, could be left out of Rohr's squad for the AFCON clash against South Africa in June.

The three-time Africa champs are top of group B after overcoming Zambia 2-1 in Ndola before defeating Algeria 3-1 in Uyo in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

However, the German tactician told Soccernet.com.ng from his base in Abuja that Mikel will always be part of the team regardless of his injury situation and will play a key role in the midfield against Cameroon on August 28.

"Mikel Obi's case isn't different from what other big football stars are facing today. Like they say, injury is always part of football and I have no reason why I should be lamenting over his injury," Rohr told Soccernet.com.ng.

"The good thing is that Mikel will be fit for the do or die clash against Cameroon on August 28 and I believe his presence will definitely lift up the moral of the the players in camp.

"I am not too sure if he'll be part of the squad that will face South Africa next month however, it's still a 50-50 chance because we can't just conclude now," he said.

You are moving too far ahead and too fast.... there is a reason I start with a six year plan.

Your 20 year talk is looking way way down the road at who will make it in the game and who will focus om professional fields or other subprofessional fields outside football....

Ofcos it is a long term plan... but a test-run of six years is to show that these kids can navigate through high school education in both worlds... football and education... that is he short term outlook before going gung-ho into the long term brouhaha of it all....

This thing called the coach carter system/concept, when it was first applied by Coach carter himself, worked on kids within less than 2-3 yrs.... then it became a norm and it is still being used today.
Some other places around the world have adapted it to suit their own environment and ideals and it is still working. So a six year doubters test plan will do at first before the marathon....

All I'm saying is we have lots of football talents in the country that you can hardly reach in a short time with that system. Doesn't solve the problem to me. However you can help some kids with it.

Don't you get it already? looolll

The short term plan won't be to cover all.... it is a test-run... and will involve some and not all.... I mentioned that in the early posts I replied you with... I said something like... "before we go widespread and long term... we have to watch how it goes in a six year plan... the doubters' test"

So are you asking questions to know whether it is feasible or just to show that I don't know what I am talking about or it just can't work coz it sounds to me you don't buy it at all....

Well like you first said... go watch the movie before you join issues with me. wink

The system will face the challenge of duplication, which is why it's not even still applied at a larger scale today. Teachers will need to firstly, have love for the profession, be truly interested in children, have patience etc.. which is why I brought up the issue of our Nigerian mentality. I've passed through different education systems and noticed this is not only typical with Nigerian teachers. But you didn't get me on that. I wasn't talking about mentality of young children lol

Crystal Palace Boss Okay Move For Prolific Nigerian Forward Henry Onyekuru

Crystal Palace have signified their interest in signing hot in demand Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru after receiving positive reports from scouts of the team about the 19 year old.

19 year old Onyekuru has 20 goals and nine assist for newly promoted Belgian side KAS Eupen, a form which has alerted top teams in Europe with Everton, Southampton, Bournemouth and Liverpool all linked with the forward.

However as exclusively reported by Owngoalnigeria.com, Everton are the only team to have submitted a bid for the Nigerian but there offer failed to match the valuation of Eupen.

Eupen want a fee of a little over 7 million pounds for their top scorer with several add ons which could see the fee rise to around 17 million pounds, Everton are yet to increase their initial offer of 5 million pounds.

A source close to the player confirmed representatives of Crystal Palace acting on the instructions of coach Sam Allardyce have contacted the representative of the forward in view of a move.

” For now Onyekuru has a new suitor in Crystal Palace, they registered their interest three days back but nothing official yet as they are yet to contact Eupen”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” He (Onyekuru) will choose the best option when it gets to that stage, for now we are weighing up offers before deciding on which is best from the angle of career progression and cash as well”.

Ofcos I did.... But didn't wanna dwell much on it. Or why do you think I spoke of Selection of teachers.... do you know the reasons behind why I say we must select and why? and then expose them to the concept which won't be difficult to grasp.....

This is between the teachers, with the virtues I want (not perfect teachers but teachers that will get the job done and are willing to put in their best), and the kids... and also involving their parents and even more parents to be convinced after the first trial.

So don't say I didn't get you... it was you who didn't understand why selection must be done. I factored in the Nigerian mentality and host of other factors before making that one comment.

But before you can question me further on this... bcoz you don't sound optimistic at all... go watch the Coach carter movie and get an idea.

I watched the game yesterday, Leon had a massive game. But let's pray that Mainz would escape relegation, we need him playing at the top levels. Right now, the math favors them not getting relegated on goal differences but there are still about 2 games to go.

TheSuperNerd:

Okay well, let me be sure I get the point of this whole argument. What is the problem we have here? Nigerian footballers who don't have formal education?

That is the issue my brother.

They are saying we must force them to learn by all means. Pikin wey him head no dey school right from time na him you wan force learn book?

Football has bettered the lives of many Nigerians who ordinarily would have wasted away in the society.

You now want to stop future Stars from playing because they cannot pass an exam you set for them.

Force kwa!

If everybody sabi book why dem create Polytechnic, vocational schools etc.

This is one the reasons we are losing skilled pikin by forcing to 'pass school' .

I no say make dem no finish secondary school ooooooo.
