Uhmmmm.... I believe centrally it is about making the next-next-next generation of Nigerian footballers more equipped for life after football.... our focus is on the kids of tomorrow to become better individuals as ex-internationals in the after-tomorrow....

For me, since I was growing up I was always in shock at how many of our ex-internationals live and try to survive Years after their retirement from the game.

So the issue is not with our current footballers... it is for the kids who still have the chance to experience the best of both worlds.

But ofcos... we know not all will become professional footballers and we wouldn't want those who won't make it as football stars (for whatever reason) to have nothing to hold onto as they grow up into adults.

Joebie:
Okay well, let me be sure I get the point of this whole argument. What is the problem we have here? Nigerian footballers who don't have formal education?

Okay good. Your suggestion IF (Big if) it works in the long run does not still guarantee much. But I agree some footballers after their retirement will be better off through that system. I think what they really need is not jobs after retirement, but an entrepreneurship mindset which they should have even during their careers. But for those who fell by the way side. What will those who did not succeed in going professional fall back to? And how will their situation be different from our many graduates still looking for jobs?

Certitude:

While growing, I was told to take fooball as a hobby and not a profession. Reason being that there are limited amount of star at a time. I kinda agree with the no pass no play principle if discretion can be applied. i.e some few exceptions to the general rule. For instance, a serious child who still fails to cut it might be excused. Even at that, a child should put extra effort.
Where a child is non-challant, what is the assurance he'll be among the few stars who'll make? Where does he fall back to if he lose at both end?

We know people have made it without formal education but that number is ridiculously low in comparison to successful educated cats.

Yep.... the entrepreneurship mindset can be applied to even current soccer stars.... no need for schooling on that one. Those with eyes on the far future can be helped through good workshops, seminars or whatever to invest wisely with the income flowing in from football so as to have an empire to fall back on years after retirement..
C.Ronaldo, Zlatan, and a host of these guys understand this and are applying it already.... but we gotta enlighten our own current footballers about it.

But that is on one hand.... the coach carter concept is about Kids who haven't started earning yet.... so entrepreneurship classes is easily included in the dynamic curriculum of their football-education journey....

Our focus in the CC concept is on the kids for tomorrow not on guys already playing the game at top levels.

And let the results of the Concept applied be the judge of what level of guarantee we are talking about coz it has worked wonders to a strong degree at various places around the world...... and after all, All of Life is a risk..... but are we gonna fold our arms because there are no 100% guarantee or because risks are involved?

Bottomline... go watch the movie but plss if you won't do it with an open heart and mind and keen observation..... then I pray thee.... just don't bother wasting your time.... wink

And U.K is the standard to follow abi?? because they haven't tried something out we shouldn't abi? what sort of mentality is that sef? what are you saying Safari? *smh*

**Anyway shaa... for your info.... some of the top academies in England ran by the big clubs do apply a similar concept sef... fashioned according to their own ideals or wants... The boys you see at U-12s all the way up to U-18s are exposed to some good education too.... I recall Rashford was attending school when he made his man utd debut while being a part of Man utd famed academy**

Who is waiting on the NFF? do you even understand the meaning of Grand-scale idea. The coach carter system is a Grand-scake idea... I have witnessed it work. I have observed it... so what you are saying all over the thread about not wanting all because the name "America" is attached to it is bollocks in my books and in the books of open-mindedness.

And yes... it is a noble idea... I know exactly how it can be twitched to suit the Nigerian System. I know what must be done and introduced to make it work... it is noble because it has changed many lives who share the same skin color like our children.... it has changed people with same Melanin under our skins. Why fight it so venomously? All because you speak of your idea? If your idea is so simple and can be applied without fuss why haven't you stepped up and done a little something about it then?

The coach carter concept is grander and can be revolutionary in our combined educational/Sports system if applied but ofcos it will require minds in the right places to make it happen. I am one of such minds... and I am growing personally. I have personal goals but I also love the beautiful game and want our kids getting the best of both worlds.... and not ending up like most of our ex-internationals today.

And talking about thinking of a plan that will work in Nigeria.... The coach carter concept can work in Nigeria... Haven't you been listening?? Chaaaiiiiii... and you have been listening abi? You want a plan that will work in Nigeria.... right? Well... here it is... for the best and most effective results... the coach carter concept will work... if you don't like... that's fine... you find it senseless? that is okay.. you term it bullshit? no wahala... but this is it... my answer to you... but you chose to ignore it and keep asking questions I have already answered since the beginning of the debate of "What can work in Nigeria?"

About Feasibility.... the coach carter concept is feasible.... and if yours according to you is much simpler, and much more feasible... then I suppose you have figured it all out naa? why ask for my opinion?

Didn't I also agree to the homeschooling alternative brought up by another and mentioned by you in one of your posts....? But you are hell bent on ditching the coach carter concept because it is from "America" albeit "black america" that has worked wonders and continue to work wonders on kids.... for your "go to the street" idea which hasn't even been applied.... but which I am also not against.... but only asking why you treat a noble and tested alternative that has worked in black kids as trash.

smh... funny.

what are you on about?

I mentioned UK because if any country has a stable enough educational system to implement that Coach Carter whatever, it is UK rather than Nigeria, yet they haven't..... Since you seem to hold westerners in high esteem, I mentioned the UK for you to know it may look good, but it is not necessarily feasible EVERYWHERE

The fact that you think Coach Carter system is feasible in Nigeria currently just goes to show you are not aware of the realities in this country and you indeed exist in a parallel universe.

Well I think the system only attempts to address poor performance or provide better learning at the childhood stage, not necessarily solve illiteracy as it has to do with the Nigerian factor. I think Nigeria's problem with low literacy is poverty. Maybe I'm mixing up the argument. But I will wait to watch the movie.

Safari.... cool down. Looooooolllll... honestly nothing bad in saying you don't know the system. Only problem is you don't want to know or understand it.... what happened to being open-minded really?

If this system worked on only white kids, I know the angle you will be coming from... but it worked superbly on black kids... and Nigerian kids are reputed for being very adaptable globally. So It is funny why you are so disgusted with a system that have been tried and tested and replicated in other forms across the world...

Safari.... you need to really calm down and look at this.... I won't take the route you are taking in terms of expressions to make yourself feel right or look right.

nawaa o na education thread be this abi we dey talk super eagles? grin

question for the house over the years nigeria has produced good sometimes great strikers, midfielders and goalkeepers but not many outstanding defenders. when i say outstanding guys who shine for many years not just two or three plus ones who go on to play for top clubs. apart from taribo and keshi can't remember too many. is it that our coaches can't teach our players how to defend or what?

England List Everton Lookman & Five Other Nigerians In Final Squad For U20 WYC

The England U-20 team have listed six players eligible to represent Nigeria in their final squad for the U20 World Youth Championship which will be taken place in South Korea later in the month.

Everton Ademola Lookman who was approached by Nigeria last month to switch allegiance, headline the Nigerians on the list which includes Liverpool duo of Ovie Ejaria and Sheyi Ojo.

Ejaria trained with the Nigeria U17 team of 2013 but failed to make the squad for the World Cup proper, he broke into the first team at Liverpool this season after impressing coach Jurgen Klopp during pre season.

Tottenham Hotspur Josh Onomah was also included while Chelsea teen duo of Dominic Solanke and Fikayo Tomori complete the list of Nigerians on the list released earlier today.

Really hots that a bench warmer in Solanke was chosen ahead of Tammy the goals machine but I can't tell why I'm happy it did happen this way. Pinnick oya let's play our card to sway him biko. He would be gutted by the snub and probably would now be considering his chances of making it to Russia with Nigeria.

I would want him in Corsica, Onyedinma too.

Ejaria as much as I like him, still has a long way to go. With or without the England call up, I can't see him staking claim for a spot in Eagles bench now, same with Kc Nwakali. Same would have been said of Tammy despite his exploits with Bristol city this past season, but we ain't that much stocked at the front as we are at the middle. I would rather Rohr gave a all up to Azu Okey than Ejaria.

Onyedinma is good and ambitious too. He's been so neglected by England yet he keeps fighting for reckoning.

NEWCASTLE SET TO RIVAL EUROPEAN HEAVYWEIGHTS IN A 5 CLUB BATTLE FOR MIDFIELDER

According to a report by Own Goal Nigeria, Newcastle United scouts were in attendance to watch Oghenekaro Etebo in action over the weekend.

Newcastle scouts watched on as Oghenekaro Etebo’s Feirense beat Pacos de Ferreira 1-0 in the Portuguese top division.
Newcastle were running the rule over box to box midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo, according to this report, ahead of a potential summer move.

It is no secret that Benitez wants to add another central midfielder to his ranks to bolster his options alongside Jonjo Shelvey.

Etebo has emerged as a top target but the Magpies face competition from some of Europe’s finest clubs for his signature.
Premier League side Leicester City are also keen on the 21-year-old with Champions League semi-finalists Monaco, Turkish giants Fenerbahce and La Liga heavyweights Sevilla weighing up a move as well.

The Nigerian international already has 8 senior caps and can also play as an attacking midfielder.

Hahaha Nerd, I would say England just made it easy for us.

U guys have thrown enough enticing punches already. I was tempted to join the argument but everybody really was making sense, so I decided to add to my knowledge my reading through every ink from the battle of the gladiators. That said, I stand with sir Icon4s "don't deny a kid with obviously talent the opportunity to play the game just because he cudnt pass a certain subject" but in truth, that kid needs atleast that secondary school so as to av options should he eventually fail with his football career. But already this is the trend in Nigeria, these days our youth players are plucked from secondary schools except maybe in the north... But it is really hard combining tertiary education with soccer in Nigeria but sec school and soccer really can work. To me, it ends there.

This is a very good news for Etebo and for Nigeria Super Eagles, if it happens. Ralph Benitez has what it takes to bring the best out of Etebo and prepare him to explode at the World Cup. There is no doubt in my mind that Etebo would be a success in the EPL. He's one of the hardest working players I know. And he's a utility player as well.

Let hope the move materializes....fingers crossed!

This is a very good news for Etebo and for Nigeria Super Eagles, if it happens. Ralph Benitez has what it takes to bring the best our Etebo and prepare him to explode at the World Cup. There is no doubt in my mind that Etebo would be a success in the EPL. He's one of the hardest working players I know. And he's a utility player as well.

Let hope the move materializes....fingers crossed!

With the kind of intensity with which Newcastle plays coupled with Benitez as the gafar Etebo will be unstoppable.

Exactly! Benitez coaching style is similar to Mauricio Pochettino....I think both men know how to make players play to their full potential.

I think he's moving to a bigger club in the summer. He was just unlucky with injury during the last Olympics or else he and Ndidi would've been the revelations of this winter transfer window. Any team that snap him up would be happy with that transaction.

And it's funny you'd say this because I made exactly the same remarks regarding the Barca scout team. In fact, I told 'em that they should fire their scout team and hire me because I can definitely do a better job than what they had done over the past few years.
