I get your point. You truly gat balls if you dropped out of school in Nigeria at will. The reality is that even with all the problems you stated, there are still many Africans who hardly experience them and are well schooled. So, there is always going to be atheists in Africa no matter how bad things get. That's a logical part you're missing.

Us too, there are like 300 tribes in Nigeria. Almost every tribe has a local cuisine. Each tribe also claims theirs is the best.Its kinda of a mess to be honest. But i think most Nigerians have settled for Jollof rice as our national food.

You would be surprised that many less well endowed people are also atheist but just don't say it. Atheism has a high positive correlation with natural intelligence so its not necessarily just a factor of poverty. I don't really know how many kenyans are atheist but could be something between 5 and 10 %. Atheists are however vocal here especially young people. How about percentage in nigeria?

But considering the various difficulties an average African child has to face. You need some sort of support mechanism(Religion) to cope with the stress.

All Civilizations start with Religion. Because religion helps you cope with stress. There is a reason more than 2/3 of the world's population is religious. its not being a sissy, its just being a history buff. (If you need examples i would gladly oblige)

Wole Soyinka embraces African traditional religions. Personally, I think being an atheist creates a sense of emptiness because you have nothing to fall back on. I've noticed that a lot of African atheists tend to fall back on traditional beliefs. They are more appreciative of the traditional beliefs. I think religious people need to learn to not judge traditional adherents so heavily.

I think being an atheist is tough in Africa. There is a lot of stigma that many people have to be quiet about it and you are surrounded by constant evangelism.

Atheism is defined as:
"disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods"

Religion is defined as:
"the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods"


Notice that BELIEVE is the underlying factor here and religion is defined by belief.
