A child minder is different from a maid. It's child minders that charge 10 pounds and higher not maids and with child minding, you take your kids to them not the other way round.
The reason is that much is because of the certifications and risks that come with childminding.

Why is everybody thinking along the same direction. Working 18hours a day. How is that calculated. Was there a clock in time to confirm that she actually work 18hours. She was paid £20 a week, where is that written when the lady does not even have a Bank account where the money is paid into. This lady was desperate to bring her employer down otherwise if she couldn't bear living with them anymore, she could simply walk away from their house or return to Nigeria instead of bringing in the Police to destroy the family. This is why people don't do this kind of help anymore. Even many Nigerians abroad looking for wife have learn their lesson in a hard way. I don't really think the Nigerian kind of domestic servants exist in UK i.e the living-in maids......
I guess it's just too expensive......
Only the upper class can afford such.....

There was a time I wanted employ the services of a maid to wash my bathroom regularly....
