My friend, America is world power today mostly because of GDP(wealth, technology, infrastructures all show in their GDP despite the inequality and lower HDI by their standard). The world considers Nigeria, southafrica and Egypt as African powerhouses by African standard basically because of GDP. One of my parkistani friend some time ago was about searching on Nigeria via Google after meeting me, the first thing he searched for on google was GDP. Your wealth should reflect on your GDP and GDP per capita. The best student is not the best because they know him as the best in usual classwork and quiz, the best student is usually known as the best due to his cgpa.
Not fair, and l don't like it myself, but that's just the way it is.

Stop comparing Nigeria to the USA. The USA has a GDP of $18 trillion that's why it's a world power. Nigeria has a GDP of $294 billion and peaked in 2014 at $584 billion. How can such a country be a superpower? You have a lower GDP than Singapore - can you consider Singapore a superpower? Stop comparing yourself with the US dude

We Have Kisumu.. Or Nakur... Or Eldoret

Lemme check them out on Google..

Modified : There's nothing to write about on Eldoret.. it's just a town dominated by athletes. I doubt If it can pass for a local government in Nigeria..
Kisumu.. a port city.. just there. nothing spectacular..
Naruku .. just there too ..
One thing I noticed is that the maximum population of all Kenya cities except Nairobi is 700,000.. And we like 10 cities. at least that's well known . and Kenya population is almost 40million.. where are the remaining population of 20milliob stays

What difference does it make bro?Can Ghana's GDP grow 15x in under 24 months? grin grin grin.

We are talking of Nigeria not Ghana. Your GDP dropped from $584 billion in 2014 to $290 in 2017. That's the reason you love using 2014 and 2015 figures instead of being current.

It being a 2010 data doesnt mean that it there4 doesnt reflect the realities about the standards of life in both countries.
Kenya too has being enjoying rapid economic growth, a stabler economy in the face of the so many adversities such as terrorism, drought and- the one thing that jas battered the Nigerian economy so badly........a flactuation in the global oil prices. But Kenya doesnt export oil, it infact benefitted from the reduction of that commodity's price somewhat.

Kenya has experienced a dramatic rise in the number of middle class, one of the fastest in Africa.

Why will a reasonable person use 2010 data while 2014/2015 data is available? Is it because it suit your purpose?

Mara means spotted in Maasai language due to the appearance of the landscape when looked at from a distance.
I have been to the Mara twice when I was quite young and planning to go again soon.
I've also been to the beaches in Mombasa many many times.

Our countries have a real chance of coming together and form a formidable union the way things are progressing. I hope it happens faster..

The name though I'd go with Ethionya and I donno which would be the capital?
It will be best if Addis be the political capital and Nairobi the economic capital or other options could be taken.

Yes, Adwa is far from those mountains. Approximately 250-300 Kilo meters. Adwa is also very mountainous.

Kenya is now among the top five countries globally coveted by second home buyers

Nairobi and Mombasa are the leading prime property performers in the world, according to an international survey. The value of the top-quality housing has increased by a quarter in just one year.

The annual Wealth Report published by Citi Private Bank and Knight Frank indicate that luxury homes in Nairobi and the Coastal region (Mombasa, Malindi and Lamu) were the best-performing prime residential property markets in the world. Compared to other well-known global locales, Nairobi and Kenya’s coastal towns are experiencing the highest rise in property prices since 2011 globally.

“Interestingly, Kenya is among the top-five most popular second-home locations for Africa’s ultra-high-net-worth individuals,” reads part of Knight Frank report.

Thank you NairobiWalker .. I kept putting it out there that the Nigeria GDP is 90 trillion naira . Converting this to Dollar gives a GDP under $300 billion dollars ..

What happened to push the GDP to the level in 2014 was as a result of re-basing of the economy by the previous government .. the other thing you need to consider is that Nigeria maintains a fixed exchange rate system controlled by the central bank unlike the flexible floating rate system you'll find in modern economies .. this fixed exchange rate somehow makes their GDP look impressive but that's not the reality on the ground .. I've shared a report on this from Reuters before .. that's why you find multiple exchange rates on their currency market and the more reason why the interbank rate and the parallel market rate don't converge .. the effect of this is that the bank I used while in Nigeria restricted their debit cards to $100 / month for foreign currency transactions .. those MasterCard debit cards couldn't even be used outside Nigeria .. I don't know if these restrictions have been removed but that was the reality back then .. you don't find these inconsistencies elsewhere ..

For good measure

Ready, steady… shop! Kenya’s capital is rapidly expanding

Those embarking on a shopping trip in Nairobi today have a lot more choice compared to a year ago. Around 1.8 million sq ft of modern shopping mall space has opened in 2015. Given that the mall stock previously had totalled 980,000 sq ft, this amounts to a revolution in the city’s retail experience, which matches the huge economic and demographic changes that have unfolded in Kenya.

Kenya has seen its economy expand by nearly 16% between 2011 and 2014 in constant prices, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. Over the same period, electricity consumption has risen by nearly 24%, secondary school pupil enrolments have increased by nearly 31%, and university student enrolments have more than doubled.

Famously, Kenya is seeing a surge in electronic payments via mobile phones. The country is undoubtedly a developing world success story.

While agriculture retains a large share of GDP, Kenya is developing a broadbased economy with rising services and production industries. The country is a fast growing centre for IT and telecom industries in Africa, and output from information and communication industries has risen by 30% between 2011 and 2014 in constant prices. Financial and insurance output is up by 24% over the same period. Kenya, and Nairobi in particular, is also taking off as a hub location for global corporations looking to establish an office to cover East Africa.

This is partly due to a growing realisation by many multinationals that sub-Saharan Africa is too big to be serviced just out of an office in South Africa.

As a result of this economic transformation, the ranks of Kenya’s middle class are swelling thanks to so much growth in services industries.

They are now living, working and shopping ever more in line with developed world expectations.

What much has changed within those 7 short years? Has Nigeria been experiencing dramatic economic growth and falling in poverty levels? Nigeria for one has been going thru some serious economic upheveals, any intelligent observer, even with the minimum grasp of economics would conclude that the standerds of living have taken quite some battering as a result.

AfDB hasnt released another study on the matter since 2010- or rather, I am not aware if they have, thus my having to use that 2010 data. U can display the latest data if u have them. Meanwhile........Kenya is ahead of Nigeria in terms of the percentage of the middle class group. But in terms of the absolute numbers, u definately have more, all thanks to your much larger population size.
