The problem with u Nigerians is that u detrmine cities in terms of size rather than the quality of of the infrastructure or amenities. That is why we see u lots making such shallow arguments about a place like Kaduna or Ibadan being better than the smaller Kenyan cities cos.......of all the reasons, they boast of populations of upwards of a 1mln! That is quite bewildering.

Kenya does not have that many cities with the populations of over a million clike Nigeria cos 1. It has a much slimmer population and 2. Typical of any developing country, most Kenyans dwell inthe rural arras. The percentage of the population living in the urban arras is roughly equivalent to that of Nigeria. 35% of Kenyans are urban dwellers whilst it's around 40% in Nigeria.

Eldoret is more than just athletes, it is a major tourist, agricultural, industrial and communication centrPop. around 500,000. Take a glance of the town below.

Quality of amenities, and you think Ibadan or other Nigeria's cities don't have quality amenities!? grin

List the quality amenities Kisumu or Eldoret have that Ibadan doesn't have. Is there any? grin

Seriously, Lagos is developing faster than Africa.

I am scared that very soon, Lagos state would be worth half of Nigeria or West Africa. We must not let that happen. This is why other Nigerian states must wake up!

States like Rivers, Anambra, Kano, Oyo are very promising financially though.
I wonder why Ogun state is not maximizing it's proximity to Lagos state for mind blowing development.

@bolded state past and present are/were shortsighted.

Kenya has a larger middle class by percentage than Nigeria. So what's your point?

This is extremely false!
Your so called capital Nairobi city has over 60% of it's population living in gruelling poverty in Africa's largest slums and you are talking about greater percentage of middle class?

Kenya was only 25% urban in 2015. So, are you saying that majority of the middle class Kenyans live in the villages??

Besides, the FCTA are now seriously working on integrating the low income abuja satelite towns to Abuja municipal by serious infrastructural upgrade.

That's cool. So, what are works on ground?

No Port Harcourt is a very beautiful and nice city which has been confirmed by all, little wonder it's called 'The Garden city', don't mind all these useless comparisons, those estates are damn beautiful, most of them who make these comparisons and arguments have been blindfolded by the bad things they hear, so they don't believe anything of such exists in Nigeria, little wonder most of them are wowed when they visit. If only we had constant electricity like these small countries, the level of development would be unimaginable!

I was just laughing when some of them said the pictures of Port Harcourt posted was false, why? because they never thought such level of development existed because of the stereotype...

Port harcourt/Rivers state is the only state in Nigeria that seems to have what it takes to challenge Lagos state.

OK, what makes up majority of Nigeria Gdp then if not oil
Agriculture,Trade e.t.c

Oil is 10% of the GDP

but that 10% represents 90% of our foreign earnings. Because the only thing we export is oil. Hence when there is a drop in oil prices globally our economy suffers because oil is the only thing we trade with the world. You understand sir.

But oil is just 10% of the GDP

States like Rivers, Anambra, Kano, Oyo are very promising financially though.
I wonder why Ogun state is not maximizing it's proximity to Lagos state for mind blowing development.

Yea, true that,

Lagos of today, is more like an enclave of a separate nation within Nigeria, ogun being a gateway state to her is unarguably reaping the benefits of her close proximity into lagos, as a matter of fact some part of ogun was annexed into lagos of today, today in ogun industrial clusters of Fdi is littered allover ota, ibafo, mowe, sagamu , abeokuta etc, thanks to the pragmatic assiduous indefatigable efforts of amosun and the geostrategic location of ogun, coupled with the siting of Western gas pipeline, embedded power plants, ipp plants etc, that really did the magic,

Also the near ultra spillover of investments in an already over saturated lagos, hence the deconcentration and divestment into ogun, with larger land mass, by this some companies in gidi are already relocating, even as their head office remain in lagos-comparative advantage comes into play.

As for States like Anambra, Kano they can quadruple their growth if the cost of production can be reduced via the ogun model, with decentralization of the National grid system or more underwater/ground gas to power facilities, independent embedded power plants etc

This is one of the reasons we need to overhaul the system via restructuralization.

Rivers has the old port in portharcourt, and the new one at onne, currently undergoing massive expansion, we need several points of entry, hence more ports if the infrastructural assets in lagos are similarly replicated in portharcourt, the hyper dependency in lagos will diminish, imagine if the onne port, calabar port, bakkassi port, ibeno ibom port were boisterous as that of lagos,

Nigeria is poised for radical economic explosion that will reverberate tsunamically across the subsahara, if we can have a true fiscal federalism and politico-economic restructuralization.

Case point-see what lagos has tremendously attained with the apapa and Tincan port, imagine and pensively ruminate when lekki and badagry seaports come on stream,

There were Unsubstantiated speculations too that lagos is enmeshed in better terrains to host deeper seaports that can accommodate larger vessels, while that of portharcourt isn't so deep to carry such, hence only semi_submersive vessels, I can't fathom the veracity of this claim, nonetheless I strongly believe this could be achieved via advanced maritime engineering based on global best practices,

I see.

Had Kenya done this earlier, the country would have been more urbanized and Nairobi slums wouldn't have been such an issue as it is today.

So are the Kenyan counties now developing their new administrative capital cities?

Are these counties going to build and maitain their own universities and tertiary institutions?

How is the Central govt allocation to these counties like?
Are the Nairobi slums bigger concern than the slums of Lagos, before I respond to your other questions?

Imagine Nairobi where over 60% of the population live in slums. Where then is the middle class?

Continuously claiming Nairobi has 60% people in slums won't push 60% of Nairobians into slums buddy. You've been shown over and over statistics showing Kenya has a larger middle class by percentage than Nairobi. Only Ghana is ahead of Kenya in West Africa.

Pathetic!
You didn't realize that was what I was alluding to all along. Then again I was luring you into a trap, now that you've paste the stats that wikipedia has cooked up for you, I can now proceed. Oh NairobiWalker why don't you tell the full story?
If you don't, I will.
In developing countries (e.g Nigeria, Kenya), the Gini coefficient tends to drop overtime. It would be bogus to claim a country is "more backward" based on a .5 difference in Gini coefficient. Now, that's giving NairobiWalker the benefit of the doubt that his stats are accurate. However, it would be wrong to suggest so. In 2010, the Gini index for Nigeria was 43 while Kenya's figure in 2014 was 42.5, meaning it took Kenya almost 4 years to catch up to Nigeria in terms of wealth distribution. Looking at the map below created in 2014 at a more accurate time, it would suggest that as of 2014, Nigeria's inequality (pinkish white) falls in the middle and is comparable to that of the US, meanwhile Kenya's Gini coefficient index falls in the light reddish zone, comparable to that of China.

Oh one more thing, inequality is only one piece of the puzzle, corruption is the other.

Please give us the source of your map. Don't just drop random maps

cool cool cool

You guys are very funny o,
Ok lets even Assume Nigeria's GDP is currently $US 290 Billion

Kenya GDP - $US 75 billion
Ghana GDP - $US 36 billion

Now lets do some dick measuring.

Kenya (75) + Ghana (36) = $US111 billion. cool

lool,
Even when Nigeria is in recession and her GDP has been "wishfully" cut down by almost 52%. Both your Countries economies combined cannot still measure even half way.

The reality on ground is that the GDP of Lagos is now $US136 billion.

Here is a link to proof:
https://businesshilights.com.ng/lagos-gdp-hits-136b-joins-league-of-fastest-developing-mega-cities-in-the-world/

So Kenya + Ghana (GDP) = $US111 billion
Lagos (GDP) = $US136 billion.

Lool you guys countries combined can't even compete economically with just Lagos!!. I swear its just funny

Conclusion:
I can't thank God enough for making me Nigerian

You also forgot one thing.

Ghana's population = 27 million
Kenya's population = 45 million
Nigeria's population = 180 million
27+45 = 72<180.

So what do you want? You want Nigerians to praise and celebrate Abacha? Where in the world is that done? I mean you were the one who said Nigerians are like their dictators. Does that even make sense? You are just backpedaling into a larger trap and you should stop now. People who make their country proud will be celebrated, and evil dictators who looted, plundered their country's resources and killed its own people will be hated and spat on. And what rubbish is this: "Your military rulers happened because you're incapable of running a stable government." Lol, someone hasn't heard of global politics. Abacha was a Western puppet like many dictators in African history. The West had interest in the oil and resources of Nigeria, and they were friend of Abacha because he provided cheap oil to them and in return they provided support and helped him hide his loots in their banks.
Oh stop wailing, Nigeria built what they had largely by themselves producing the richest African man and woman, all by themselves. When a country's top consists of disproportional high amount of Indian or European, that's how you know its a relic of a colonial past and a neocolonialist state. Nigeria also had a peacefully transitioning to civilian rule and relatively peaceful elections, which can't be said of a lot of countries in the world. Sadly, there is still about 20 dictators in Africa, many are puppets of the West, but one day they will transition to civilian rule.

You just don't get the point.

I want you to accept when you're beaten without blaming it on your dictators.
