I haven't watched Uche Agbo enough to know if I would rate him over Onazi tho.

All in all, based on current form, Ndidi is a shoo-in and Onazi and co should be fighting for the remaining spot. However, I would expect Rhor to stick with Onazi especially in the absence of Mikel since Onazi is the vice captain.

O pari

Agbo is good, but I think he needs a little bit of finesse with his tackling. And onazi won't be available for the friendlies - club commitments according to the news I've heard.

Agbo is a red card waiting to happen in every game, too reckless with his tackling.

Hahaha, that's one aspect of his game I seriously would want him to improve on. Ever since onazi's injury at the 2014 world cup, he's been a shadow of what we've known him to be In the past, think Agbo should be competition in that midfield.

Onyekuru... I know I am being a little froward here but..... "welcome to the Super Eagles." I believe Rohr should have his name pencilled down for The South Africa game even before the WCQs double header with The Huge "Plantain Boiz" (coined by Sir Icon79) wink

Wenger confident of luring 26-star to Arsenal from rivals
By mac14

According to The Sun , Arsene Wenger believes he can persuade highly-rated striker Tammy Abraham to leave Chelsea and join Arsenal this summer.

Despite many fans calling for him to leave when his contract expires next month, Wenger is expected to extend his stay at the club and revamp his squad during the summer transfer window.

A new striker is expected to be top of the agenda and we’ve been linked with the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Karim Benzema in recent weeks but it appears the boss has a less high-profile target in mind.

The Sun are reporting that Wenger has identified Tammy Abraham as a player he wants to add to his squad and is confident he’ll be able to persuade the teenager to swap Stamford Bridge for the Emirates.

Abraham has struggled to break in to the Chelsea first team squad since progressing through their youth ranks and was sent out on loan to Bristol City last summer.

The 19-year-old has taken the opportunity to showcase exactly what he’s capable of as he scored 26 goals in all competition for a Bristol side that ended up finishing 17th in the Championship.

The England under-21 international is set to head back for talks over his future with Chelsea and The Sun claim he wants assurances that he’ll see first team football next season or he’ll ask to leave.

Chelsea are expected to sign the likes of Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku this summer so I personally don’t think Abraham is going to get much first team football with the champions next season so he may have to leave in order to get regular action.

The Sun seem to think Wenger is ready to try and lure him to north London and Abraham would be an exciting addition for the future as he’s a hugely talented striker.

However, he’s not what we need if we’re to become genuine title challengers next season and let’s be honest, Chelsea are highly unlikely to do business with Arsenal in any case.

Honestly Speaking.... I don't think Tammy To Arsenal may work.

Firstly, Arsenal is a big side and should be linked with strikers that has made their marks or impact on one of Europe's big leagues. I mean, they brought in Lucas Perez and see what happened.

Secondly, Tammy is a fantastic young talent and has goals in him but may be too young and frail to lead Arsenal's Charge for titles. His young shoulders still need one or two more years of strengthening to enable him carry a team in the big leagues as the top 9. His performance in the championship is superbly encouraging but there is a huge gulf in class between the EPL and The Championship.

Thirdly, Will Chelsea do business with Arsenal? Will Tammy cope well with wearing The shirt and badge of the Gunners who are fierce London rivals of Chelsea?? hmmmm.... time will tell.... wink

All the same... Tammy is not short of suitors... He is still just 19. He should move to a club that will play him regularly and also offer him an environment where he can strive and keep growing into, hopefully, a world class finisher.... without being overly punished for one small error. At Arsenal, I don't think he will have enjoy such Patience coz the fans won't let him rest if he slips up just once.

Amokachi Promoted , Now JS Hercules Technical Director
By Izuchukwu Okosi

Former Super Eagles captain and striker, Daniel Amokachi, has been elevated to the position of Technical Director of Finnish League side, JS Hercules, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Amokachi was appointed coach of the team in January 2016, but will now work with the team in a bigger capacity. The former Nigeria international revealed the information on his Instagram page on Wednesday.

"Excited to announce that I will be transitioning to the role of #TechnicalDirector at @jshercules #theamokachis #kakkonen #football #futbol,” Amokachi wrote.

The former Everton and Besiktas star began his coaching career with Nigeria Professional Football League side Nasarawa United and later Enyimba Aba.

In April 2007, he quit his role as assistant coach of the Super Eagles, but was reappointed on 10 April 2008, as assistant coach to Shuaibu Amodu, and then as assistant to Stephen Keshi.

An official statement from JS Hercules reads thus:
'In a decision that will change and expand the role Mr. Amokachi has within the Club, Hercules Board of Directors has met with Daniel and we’ve made a joint decision that he will continue with the position of Technical Director of JS Hercules.

"His work as a member of the Hercules family continues in a new capacity, where he can be of tremendous assistance with his strong personal brand and connections. We’re always looking to take the Club forward and this decision has been made to better leverage our current international efforts."

Amokachi in his remark explained that he will continue to help improve the standard of the team although could be able to return to television punditry.

“This decision allows me to proceed with my media work and bring more global recognition to the club, where the coaching role limited me in some aspects from doing what I can do for the club to move forward,” Amokachi stated.

According to the club's statement, Amokachi took the time to explain the decision to the first team together with the chairman :

“It was hard for me and for the players, but we all know that this is better for the team. I still go to the training sessions and I will continue to help them with one on one sessions to improve their football skills.“

First team coach, Timo Viitanen, the club further informed, has taken on the responsibility of coaching the first team.

"Timo will continue the strong work carried out by Daniel and following a meeting with the first team, we’re sure they will work with him to achieve the goals we’ve set for the season.
The board wishes to thank Daniel for his work over last 14 months and look forward to his efforts in a new capacity."

TIAGO ILORI FINALLY COMING OF AGE AT READING
By Solace Chukwu

For the first time since leaving Sporting four years ago, there may finally be light at the end of the tunnel for the former Liverpool youngster

It may be an odd thing to say of a player who has represented both Liverpool and Sporting CP (both have 37 domestic league titles between them) but on Tuesday night, Tiago Ilori played arguably the biggest match of his young career at the Madejski Stadium in Berkshire.

Ilori may be only 24, but he seemed in danger of drifting into obscurity.

He broke into the first team at Sporting in 2013, making his senior league debut for the Lions alongside a certain Eric Dier in defence in a 3-2 victory over Gil Vicente. In total, he made 11 league appearances before Liverpool decided they had seen enough and snagged him for an undisclosed fee. Dier stayed one more season in Lisbon, and then moved to Tottenham Hotspur.

One can only speculate as to the reasons, but what is clear is that the paths of both players have diverged markedly.

Liverpool perhaps proved a step too far, and too soon, and after sundry loans, the Reds finally cut their losses, accepting a bid by Reading to take the player off their hands in a club-record deal for the Royals.

Dier has blossomed in London, scoring on his debut, becoming a mainstay at White Hart Lane, and representing England at the Euros last summer.

It is a cautionary tale, and not just about the dangers young players face moving to a huge clubs in a different league.

Dier came into Tottenham as one of the first signings of Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure, a manager whose demands on defensive players suited him down to a tee. The Argentine has refined the 23-year-old, magnifying his strengths and showing him the trust that is so crucial to player development.

That same intangible but crucial ingredient has been in short supply for Ilori, first under Brendan Rodgers, and then under Jurgen Klopp.

No surprise then that, under Dutch legendary defender Jaap Stam, he may belatedly be coming of age.

In the absence of club skipper Paul McShane, Ilori came into the backline for the second leg of the Championship playoff semi-final against Fulham, and was magnificent. For context, the Cottagers finished the regular season tied with Newcastle United for the league’s best attack (85 goals scored), and led both on shots per game and average possession.

Basically, this Fulham side can play.

Despite a lack of playing time this term, Ilori turned in a thoroughly accomplished performance, with he and veteran goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi particularly defiant under heavy shelling.

Particularly impressive was his ability to anticipate the movement of ball, cutting out Fulham attacks before they had a chance to develop.

He was not, however, averse to getting his hands (and shorts) dirty, as shown by his game-high five tackles. On the bench, Stam must have smiled quietly, himself a tough-tackling defender in his playing days, at the sort of assertiveness that was so frequently lacking while the 24-year-old was at Anfield.

On the basis of this display, he now has a choice to make for the final as to whether to retain Ilori in the starting line-up for the playoff final against Huddersfield Town following their penalty victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday.

If they do secure promotion though, we will finally get to see how the Portuguese-Nigerian would get on at the highest level, a possibility denied us while he was with Liverpool.

This would be vital for the possibility of him playing for Nigeria at some point in the future, as Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr will not consider players in the lower divisions. There is, however, a bit of a shortage at the back for the Super Eagles, with an injection of quality surely needed.

Ilori has, up to this point, featured exclusively for the Portugal youth sides despite also being eligible for England, and was a part of their squad to last year’s Olympic Games in Rio.

However, the step up to the senior national side is the steepest, and Nigeria could very profit within the window of uncertainty.

First though, there is work to do to convince. He has taken the first step and seized the opportunity handed him, and though it has taken him a lot longer, he may finally be able to showcase what it is Liverpool saw in him four years ago.

From Dortmund to Hoffenheim to Southampton and Now shockingly... Everton!!! When you are and have a growing reputation as... one of Europe's best young clinical finishers/forwards then you won't be short of suitors even when you are made third choice striker at a top club like Man City. wink

Everton eyeing £20m Premier League star as shock Romelu Lukaku replacement

EVERTON are reportedly eyeing Manchester City star Kelechi Iheanacho as a possible replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

Everton target Kelechi Iheanacho

Lukaku, 24, looks set to leave Goodison Park after rejecting the most lucrative contract offer in the club's history earlier this year.

Starsport understand Manchester United are ready to go to war with Chelsea for his signature.

And, according to The Sun , Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is interested in signing Iheanacho, 20, as replacement for the Belgium star.

He is said to have grown frustrated at the Etihad with Gabriel Jesus, Nolito and Sergio Aguero all ahead of him in Pep Guardiola's pecking order.

The Nigeria international has made 19 Premier League appearances this season but only five of those have come as a starter.

There are still four years left to run on his City contract after he penned fresh terms last summer.

The Sun suggest the Toffees are willing to part with around £20m to lure him to Merseyside.

Chelsea and Manchester United target Romelu Lukaku

An Etihad source reportedly said: “Everton have shown an interest in Kelechi, who has been frustrated with a lack of game-time this season.

“He is highly-rated here, but has not started a match since January 2nd where as I’m sure he would get lots of first-team action elsewhere.

“Pep is looking to bolster his ranks and spend a fair chunk of cash this coming transfer window and the club could be persuaded to sell should the right offer come in.”

Turkey’s Bursaspor comes for William Troost-Ekong

Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong is being courted by Turkish club Bursaspor, according to media reports.
Troost-Ekong has returned to parent Belgian club, KAA Gent, after a loan spell at Norwegian club, Haugesund, but according to Het Nieuwsblad Turkish club Bursaspor spied on the central defender at the weekend.

Bursaspor are in the lower half of the Turkish Super Lig with 35 points from 31 matches with three matches to the end of the season.

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has said he wants Troost-Ekong to play in a bigger league.

The 23-year-old hard-tackling defender has made six appearances for Gent this season.

He recently extended his contract at the club till 2018 after he spent two seasons at Haugesund.

He has previously played for Dutch clubs Groningen and Dordrecht.

Troost-Ekong was first capped by Nigeria June 2015 against Chad in Kaduna and was an ever-present as Nigeria clinched Olympic bronze at last year’s Rio Games.

Same goes for the two.

Can you compare a 20 goals a season player of the EPL with a 20 goals a season player of the Belgian or a Scandinavian league?

The 3 boys have tried but we know the level of competitiveness of there leagues compared with the top leagues in Europe.

If he repeats this kind of feat in England or Germany, then we have a truly world class player on our hands but let us not diminish his achievements.

Even Amokachi did not score 21 goals in Belgium in his best season and he was an important national team player. Simon Moses, who is now an important part of the National team has not scored 21 goals in a season.

Lukaku never reached up to 20 in Belgium.

Onyekuru is not a striker, he plays from the left. That is what makes his goal return more interesting.

The Belgian League is better than the Austrian or Danish League in my opinion. We saw the performances of their teams in Europe. And let us not forget, Eupen is not even among the best sides in Belgium.

He singlehandedly saved his team from any relegation issues.

His foul and card rates are too high. Granada is not very good but his stats when it comes to tackling is poor. He is a good passer though and can help when you are keeping the ball.

I am not too concerned about his foul and card rate because La Liga is just that type of league. Even Luis Enrique complained about one foul being one card. Those numbers will drop when he gets to England. If u watch him against big clubs like barca and madrid he rarely does anything silly.
You are right about his passing, he was even played in an advance role in their last couple matches and he did good.

Henry Onyekuru: Hot property in Europe, cold shoulder in Nigeria
Colin Udoh

In the past couple of months, Nigeria technical adviser Gernot Rohr has named two squads. The first was for two scheduled international friendly matches in London, one of which ended up being cancelled.

The second, named last week, is for another friendly -- May 26 against Corsica -- to allow the coach to cast his eye over some fresh talent, including three domestic-league players.

Since he took over the Nigeria job, Rohr appears to have made a point of selecting players who fit into a certain mould: young, bred/raised/trained and mostly active -- or with potential to be -- at their European clubs.

That makes the exclusion of KAS Eupen striker Henry Onyekuru something of a head scratcher. With 21 goals for the season, the 19-year-old is one of the top scorers in Belgium, and he ticks all of those boxes in the Rohr book.

If his one demerit is that he plays for a relatively lowly club, then perhaps the interest from numerous top sides in major leagues should be a measure of his potential, if not ability.

Scottish giants Celtic saw a bid for him turned down in January; Anderlecht and Club Brugge have also reportedly tabled bids, but none have been entertained so far.

From the English Premier League, there are reports that Liverpool, Everton, Southampton, West Ham and even champions Chelsea are keeping close tabs on Onyekuru's situation.

So far, Eupen have resisted all approaches, but it appears that will change this summer. After the Celtic bid failed in January, Onyekuru was quoted as saying that he has reached an agreement to leave.

"I have made my decision to leave," he said at the time. "I have already agreed with Eupen that I am joining my new club after this season."

That new club is expected to be in England, with reports early this week claiming that talks are progressing with two Premier League sides.

Which is why Rohr's decision to not at least take a look at him during Nigeria's upcoming training camp in France is even more puzzling.

Scratch beneath the surface of the goals and the interest from top European clubs, and Onyekuru already looks a gem of a player.

Able to play as both a winger -- on either flank -- and as a central striker, he has the tools to make it all come together. His goals in Belgium have been as varied as they have been quality, from burning his markers with blazing acceleration, to ghosting past three defenders with magical close control in very tight spaces, to rounding a goalkeeper.

Even when he does not score, Onyekuru shows great strength and balance to stay on the ball against physical opposition.

Once can only surmise that Rohr has not yet got around to looking at him. But his lead forwards are struggling for goals and playing time: Odion Ighalo and Brown Ideye are still trying to settle in over in China; Kelechi Iheanacho has barely made the matchday squad for Manchester City, and Alex Iwobi appears to have lost his place at Arsenal in the closing stages of the season.

Of Rohr's preferred starting forward line, only Chelsea's Victor Moses has been a consistent starter at his club, and he plays as a wing-back.

Onyekuru is one of Nigeria's top two goal scorers in Europe, with the other being Olanrewaju Kayode. There is no reason he should not get at least a chance to show the coaches what he can do in the green and white stripes.

One hopes that Onyekuru will get that opportunity when the squad for the Nations Cup qualifier June 10 against South Africa is made public. He deserves nothing less.
