To prove he is foolish

Here is a list of some of the tribes in Nigeria who adorn their faces with tribal marks Extra vacantly

- Jukun
- Igbira
- Tiv
-Hausa
A friend who's mother is from the south south has hold tribal marks because their mother had a number of stillborns before him
-Awori

There are so many others , while tribal marks have reduced in most of Yoruba culture it is still very strong among some of the above listed.

It's really plain stupidity. I watch them post these pictures all over the place and just smh.

Tribal marks were once a part of the culture and nothing to be ashamed of as at the time it was done. Most of the things we degrade ourselves over are what defined us in the past.

The Igbo culture promotes folklore and proverbs. These two form the basis for literary incursion. There were also role models like Achebe, Ekwensi and others. Igbo authors also focused largely on narratives which tend to be more culturally appealing than the creative writing style of Soyinka

None of the writers you mentioned was more cultural in their work as Soyinka. And talking about Cyprian, he was the most diverse of Igbo writers. His books dealt with different cultures, one at a time, not just Igbo culture.

Congrats to them all.

Can someone help in explaining why most young writers in Nigeria are Igbo. This is something i've noticed for a while now. Is there any concerted effort by the governors in the south-east that explains it or Igbos are just fond of the literary world.

How many young writers do you know? And the word "most" is just plain disgusting.

Stop being tribalistic. No Igbo writer has won the Prize. But four Yoruba writers have.

Nelson Osondu won it in 2009 but as it stands Afonjas are still leading 2-1. Awo's education policy covered literature, a noble prize in Literature by kongi, says it all.

Actually, I was at a book review in Goethe institute (for German language) over the weekend where they hosted two Nigerian authors (Yewande Omotoso and Abimbola Ayobami) They were both nominated for Bailey's prize. I know you don't know this.

The question is do they really put our story in print.

Some of the guys above have excluded the likes of DO Fagunwa amongst many.

I'll tell you what I've seen of recent Yoruba literature unlike our eastern brethren who mostly write a novel about an African with European outlook and the primary audience being western most Yoruba literature is written with a societal undertone similar to the use of "owe" and aroba the consequence is that it tells an African tale , most suitable to the African experience

So, Chimamanda, Achebe, Elechi, Ekwensi, etc didn't write stories of Africa?
You know nothing

You want to deny the fact that its not only Yorubas that are benefitting from Awo's legacy? How many of the three mentioned above actually live in the east?

And I wont be surprised if these three speak Yoruba language well.

Nigeria’s Rotimi Babatunde won the 2012 prize for his short story entitled ‘ Bombay's Republic ’ from 'Mirabilia Review' Vol. 3.9 (Lagos, 2011). Chair of Judges, Bernardine Evaristo, MBE, described it as “ambitious, darkly humorous and in soaring, scorching prose exposes the exploitative nature of the colonial project and the psychology of independence”.

2010 Olufemi Terry Sierra Leone’s Olufemi Terry has won the 2010 Caine Prize for African Writing, described as Africa’s leading literary award, for 'Stickfighting Days' from Chimurenga vol 12/13, Cape Town. The Chair of Judges, The Economist’s Literary Editor Fiammetta Rocco described it as “ambitious, brave and hugely imaginative, Olufemi Terry’s ‘Stickfighting Days’ presents a heroic culture that is Homeric in its scale and conception. The execution of this story is so tight and the presentation so cinematic.”

Nigeria’s Tope Folarin won the 2013 prize for his short story entitled ‘ Miracle ’ from Transition, Issue 109 (Bloomington, 2012). ‘Miracle’ is a story set in Texas in an evangelical Nigerian church where the congregation has gathered to witness the healing powers of a blind pastor- prophet. Religion and the gullibility of those caught in the deceit that sometimes comes with faith rise to the surface as a young boy volunteers to be healed.

Nigeria's Segun Afolabi won the 2005 prize for“Monday Morning” from Wasafiri , published in 2004. His work also includes A Life Elsewhere, a collection of 17 short stories published in July 2006 and a novel Goodbye Lucille , published in April 2007 by Jonathan Cape. His stories have been published in various literary journals including Granta, the London Magazine and Wasafiri.

Anyway, I forgot Osondu. He was one of the earliest winners!!! Yes, that is one Igbo to three Yoruba winners. But in truth, four Nigerians have won the Prize!!!

I'm not saying this is not true. Before i say something, i most have noticed a trend. I dare say that majority of notable young Nigerian writers are Igbo. That's not to take anything from non-Igbo writers who are also doing great things.
