Gracee101: Well current processing time is 14 weeks, so I would suggest you try and apply at least 14 weeks before you are due to start. There is always a possibility that your visa could be issued before 14 weeks. Just based on what I'm read, I'm just a visa applicant lol. |

nelly28:I didn't have any other factor to make them ignore my "course mix match" according to you. People end up in different career paths not related to their first degree and that is what I wanted to point out to the person. My point was just to emphasize that you can get a study permit if your propose course is not related to your first degree but you can prove it with your current job position. Even Oyibo dey switch career, why cant we? Besides, am a babe my dear 1 Like |

Hello again, So I applied last week for a visit visa online, got my biometrics done after getting the biometrics letter. I eventually got an update on my account that reads something along this line: "biometrics not needed for your application, you will receive an update, if this is changed". Is this normal? |
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by dapoddon: 11:56pm On Jun 01, 2017 |
I can't speak categorically about this cos there are several dependant variables. The program you're applying for and the departmental entry requirements are key. It is also popular knowledge that although not impossible it is difficult to get a masters admission with a second class lower from Canadian universities, I think the same applies to most programs in U of M. You can try University of Ottawa tho, seems like someone on this thread go an admit from them with a 2.2. atiteb4: |

Hello guys, A friend of mine referred me to Nairaland and this house in particular a few days ago and I have been very happy just reading through the informative posts and encouragements I have come across. I am glad to be on board. I look forward to sharing my knowledge as well. I would love the gurus in the house to share their opinions on my case: 1. I am in my early 20s though I finished secondary school quite early about 8 years ago. I was in a Nigerian university for a short time but stopped due to some personal challenges at the time. However, between my graduation from secondary school and now, I have had some work experience with a South African firm. As of now, I have applied and gotten admitted for an UG degree in MUN. I plan submitting my TRV application next week. I have included in my online application all the completed CIC forms (where I hinted at my work experience) and also the following documents: 1. Acceptance Letter 2. Scanned copy of passport page and visas 3. Proof of Financial Support that includes an affidavit from my maternal uncle, his bank statement (turnover N67m and current balance N6.7N), attestation of birth for him and my mom showing relationship Can you guys please tell me if I am missing any documents? I learned that I didn't need to upload my WAEC certificate. Also was fortunate to travel as a young teenager and thus have maintained a nice travel history that includes 5 UK visas the last of which is valid, a South African visa and a valid US visa. Does this help my chances? I plan to do my medicals on Monday. I would look forward to your expert and homely replies. - Mostblackroad |
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by mostblackroad(m): 11:48am On Jun 02, 2017 |
Yes you should shed more light on your personal history. Have you been abroad lately? Have you been refused a visa lately? Also from the information you have shared I can sense some of the reasons why you were denied. 1. N2m is already less than $10,000 CDN at the current exchange rate, that alone does not cover your living allowance much less your school fees. Then again, you have dependents who technically are your financial responsibilities. N2m is not nearly enough to show that you can cover all the necessary needs in Canada and at home in Nigeria. At the current parallel market rates of N285 to $1CDN, you need to show at least N6m on your part (I am assuming your school fees are over $10,000CDN) and then another N2m or more to cover the expenses on your dependents here in Nigeria. So you have to look at a statement of roughly N9-10m to be on a safe side. Farm and hatchery documents are cool but they are not strong pillars. The Canadians care more about liquid cash than property. Share more light on your situation and I may be able to share further insights. - themostblackroad |

StCruz247: Thank you for the reply. I hope it is not abnormal for the biometric invitation to take this long. I also have this question. I did a medical upfront and I added my info sheet to my letter of explanation. Do I need to do any other thing with regards to my medical exam? |

mostblackroad:Firstly, i'll like to commend you on how you presented your profile. It shows you've been doing well reading previous posts and hence it is easy to help you further. Weldone. Now to your case, you seem to have been doing something useful with yourself since you left secondary school through your work experience which should give you a good chance. However, i'll advice you also write a good statement of purpose explaining all you've been doing, things you were able to achieve during these periods and things you hope to achieve after completing your intended program. The idea of the SOP is to further point to the Visa officer that in as much as you were unable to complete your previous undergrad study, you were still very useful, adding value and because of the limitation in your academic achievements, you have taken the bold step to see that you get your degree and a very competitive one hence your choice of going to canada to study. Use your work experience in the south african company to your advantage. That you were able to work in diversity, learned different work concept with international standards and you need a internationally recognized degree to be able to meet global challenges in your field of study. You can as well pick an area that you hope to do further research in to bring ease to humanity. Anything as convincing as posssible will make your case more deliberate that situational. Your travel history is good too but the onus of getting a very good chance will lie on how your have made your purpose of visit precise to officers. I also believe you have good hometie in your immediate family members being in nigeria. Regards. 2 Likes |
