I wonder why Lagos is not clamouring for true federalism where most resources are supposed to be controlled by states instead of seeking for special status. Even the Niger Delta would have no choice but to diversify if we practise true federalism. Almost every state has the potential to develop but because of the free money coming from oil, they've become lazy.

Fashola as governor of Lagos state replied Igbos asking for political restructuring. Fashola's reply was that creation of more local government areas was what Nigeria only required.

So tell us, why did political leaders of SW region shun political restructuring but joined political alliance with northern parties that reject restructuring to true and fiscal federalism?

All to control oil revenues. Fashola ask for more local government areas to get more oil revenues

That port was existing before Nigeria, why didnt you cry to GEJ when he was the President for 6 years. You all like crying and wailing unnecessarily. First its Lagos is no mans land, now its rubbish port. What has Port got to do with IGR? Ogun is the most industralized state (after Lagos). Keep blaming others for your misfortune while they progress. Mschew
Kindly ignore him. To him Ogun river is also a sea port.

Stale excuse.
I don't like to come across as Biafra agitator. Cause my business is in Lagos. But you need to remember that Lagos is a coastal town, with the biggest and most functional port in Nigeria. There is no way any state can exceed them in revenue. All coastal towns in the world is a magnet for investment and immigration. Porthacourt and calabar are also coastal towns you will say, but Lago was the country's capital for the longest period of time and diplomatic and infrastructural development were made there to compete with world standard.

The revenue generation tilts more to the southwest cos of the presence of the nation's seaports. Establish ports in the SS and see all this stats balancing.
The proximity of businesses close to ports is a major factor here. Check the revenues of those farther from the seaports and you'll understand perfectly.
There are also sea ports in Kano and Kaduna? Which are far higher in IGR.

Bulk of the IGR from the SW is from Oil companies - IOCs and LOCs whose installations are at SS with Headquarters in Lagos.

Also note that there is no point castigating Biafrans as SE people alone. Biafra encompasses SE/SS, so if this statistics was to make nonsense of the hen that lays the golden eggs then you are mistaken. Take away the Taxes paid by LOCs and IOCs to Lagos State then you will figure out the strengths of each zones.

I see you guys are so ignorant of Biafran loyalty in the SS.

We are one people. No propaganda penetrates to the creeks. We know where our loyalty lies when it comes to skirmishes. The Feds have killed Isaac Boro, Ken Saro Wiwa, Dele Giwa etc, do not think our loyalty can be purchased by propaganda.

Lagos stopped being a Capital over 25years ago (a Quarter of a Century ago) and the state has been collecting almost same FAAC allocations (if not lesser) than most State in those number of years.

Look for another reason.

Meanwhile Calabar and Lokoja are former Federal Capital too.

The excuse will continue to haunt Nigerians till they do the right thing.
Imagine having seaports concentrated on one axis and expect more income from the other axis. What hypocrisy. Why should every commodities needed by 180 million Nigerians be imported from Lagos-Ogun axis? Who made it so and who is benefiting most from it?? And he is here typing stale excuses. Smh.
You can't wriggle yourself out of the excuse cos you know deep down that it is the obvious facts. Get ONNE and calabar seaports working for now and see what will happen in 2 years.

My dear stop being stu.pid. It is not mandatory to use Lagos port or other ports. As a business man, I will use the port close to my market or factory. Onne port is working. And btw bulk of the revenue from port goes to FG. I am a Nigerian

Some people have come again with chest-beating later they will say Igbo people are chest beaters. See them claiming "good leadership" and "self-sustainability"
First and foremost, Lagos is Nigeria's commercial capital and has been like that since the 60's or 70's during military rule so the IGR will naturally be high naturally. All ethnic groups have invested heavily in Lagos and not the South-west indigenes only. Ogun's rise is known even to children as a result of the congestion of Lagos which prompted factories to go to the nearest available location. So your claim of South west leadership pursuing development more than their other counterparts is hogwash. We all can see the state of infrastructure in Ogun for instance which reflects msdiocre leadership.
Secondly IGR is not the sole measure of economic health alone; we have poverty index, GDP figures, GDP per capita index etc. Of this IGR should be the lowest actually because in a country like Nigeria where most state revenue comes from the centre states don't take IGR really serious and might shelve internal taxation for political support from companies and individuals(taxes are some of the more contentious issues in a country and people detest it). In 2014, Enugu generated about 20 billion Naira in taxes while Ogun generated about 17 billion Naira. Can we say that because of these figures Enugu's economy was bigger than that of Ogun in 2014? No! and to say otherwise will be madness as Ogun was already one of the most industrialized states in Nigeria as far back as 2011 or even earlier. So IGR is not a sole determinant of the health of a state's economy. One of the reasons while IGR of eastern states is low is because of the unwilligness by the state governments to collect taxes from indigenous business men whom we see as "our sons" as in contrast to Ogun where the firms there are mostly non-indigenous and established thus taxing them to the fullest won't hurt the government's electoral chances.

This is why every Igbo men should believed that oil alone is not why Hausa & Yoruba is kicking against biafra. My brother I can clearly tell u that the land borders in those south west state was where their igr is coming from, who are those patronizing those borders ? The biafrans. The igr of Lagos is coming from no other place than import duties in fact import duties is contributing to 90% of Lagos igr, (both lands and sea borders). And who are those paying this duties? The biafrans. This is why the FG is discouraging any other sea port that will mount as challenge to Lagos port.

When they said biafra is landlocked this is what they mean, the land and sea borders is bringing more Igr than anything else and biafrans are the tools. Think my biafra brothers

To understand why Lagos states IGR is disproportional to other states, you all need to go and study the Lagos states tax law.

It has an unfair advantage to other states. In summary it appears any office with Headquaters in lagos, pays the proceeds from sales made in every location in Nigeria to Lagos State.

That means Mr y sells gum with head office in lagos.Every gum he sells in niger, maidugury and ondo has tax remmitted to Lagos state.

That and the personal income tax generated from everyone that works in lagos including artisans.

Add the levies on everything, permits ,tenements, adverstising, including painting your logo on your car comes with a fee in lagos

Lagos state has mastered the art of taxation, they and this has little to do with any tribe in the state. It has nothing to do with the ports either whuch is under the federal Goverments jurisdiction.lagos is the ultimate tax collector

IGR shows viability of a State.

It shows the commitment of the citizens of the State towards the self-sustenance of their state.

It is an indicator of willigness of the citizens of the state to promote good governance and accountability.
