NIGERIAN ARMY IS NOT ABSORBING LEGIONARIES

The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to activities of a group of some unscrupulous elements that duped gullible members of the public especially ex-servicemen.
According to reports, the group has been collecting the sum of N80,000 from legionnaires across the country with a view to bringing them back into its service.
While efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend them, the Nigerian Army wishes to disassociate itself with such criminals and their activities and advise the public to be wary of them and report same to any of the security agencies. Above all, the laws, terms and conditions for enlistment into the Army are very clear; it is free. One does not need to pay anyone a dime or give any gratification to be recruited.
The public is please requested to take advantage of the newly established Nigerian Army Information and Call Centre to report any such issue and other security concern by calling the short code 193 using any of the telecommunication service providers in Nigeria or through email at na.callcentre@army.mil.ng
Thank you for your kind cooperation.

NIGERIAN ARMY TO INVESTIGATE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST MISCONDUCT BY SECURITY PERSONNEL AT INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS CAMPS

The Nigerian Army has noted with great concern growing allegations of misconduct against some persons on security duties at Internally Displaced Persons’ camp in Bama, Borno State.
We would like to state that Nigerian Army personnel have been doing their best in bringing peace and security in various parts of the country especially in the north east, any act of misconduct could negatively impact on these good works.
Although these allegations are unsubstantiated, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai has today directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated by both the Director Military Intelligence and Provost Marshal (Army).
We would like to reiterate that the Nigerian Army has zero tolerance for any misconduct among its officers and soldiers especially those that are trusted with onerous responsibility of guarding and securing those Internally Displaced Persons’ Camps. Anyone found culpable, would be severely dealt with.
We would like to enjoin the public to please take advantage of the newly established Nigerian Army Information and Call Centre to report any such issue and other security concern by calling the short code 193 using any of the telecommunication service providers in Nigeria or through email at na.callcentre@army.mil.ng
Thank you for your kind cooperation.

Boko Haram: Court orders AGF, Army, IGP to produce WHO Consultant

"If this is correct, then,it will be safe to assume the 1st, 2n‎d, 3rd and 5th respondents have an idea where the applicant may be. Son as not to embark on exercise in futility, i hereby order the 1st, 2n‎d, 3rd and 5th respondents to produce the applicant before the court withing 60 days‎ or charge him to court. On the alternative, they. Should show cause why I should not order them to release the applicant unconditionally".
Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako has ordered the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Nigerian Army to produce a Medical ‎Doctor, Mohammed Mari Abba, accused of link with Boko Haram, in court.

The court further ordered the Army to in the alternative charge him to court
Abba, a Consultant with the World Health Organization, was arrested in Yobe State in 2012 and up till now, according to his counsel, Ocholi Okutepa, has remained in detention.

In her ruling in a suit filed by Abba, through his counsel, Okutepa, to challenge his continuous detention, Justice Nyako told the Army to show cause why she should not order that the suspect should be released unconditionally, if they fail to produce him.

Joined in the suit to enforce his fundamental rights are the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, ‎the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Nigerian Army and the Director-General of the Department of State Services.

Justice Nyako held: “The first thing I wish to raise in this case is on the case of the applicant. This applicant (Abba) who is suing in person is “missing”‎.

From the applicant’s case, which is not by proxy or on his behalf is rather puzzling to me. The applicant according to his wife who deposed to the affidavit in support of the application is being kept by the respondent in undisclosed place and his whereabouts is unknown.

“However curiously, I have come across a process in the file. Dated 10/06/16 on. Behalf of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th respondents (AGF, FG, IGP, CDS) which claimed that the applicant has been charged. In suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/138/2015.

“If this is correct, then,it will be safe to assume the 1st, 2n‎d, 3rd and 5th respondents have an idea where the applicant may be. Son as not to embark on exercise in futility, i hereby order the 1st, 2n‎d, 3rd and 5th respondents to produce the applicant before the court withing 60 days‎ or charge him to court. On the alternative, they. Should show cause why I should not order them to release the applicant unconditionally”.

Before the ruling of tthe court, Abba had asked the court to declare his arrest and detention‎ since 2012 without a valid courtorder as not onlyillegal and unlawful but grossly unconstitutional and a grave. Infringement on his fundamental rights to personal liberty.

He also asked the court to award N500 million as damages for his illegal detention.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE TRAINS PERSONNEL IN SPECIAL WARFARE

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has officially kicked off the specialized warfare training of its personnel in Kaduna, in collaboration with the British Military Assistance Training Team (BMATT). The six-week BMATT training programme for selected NAF personnel is aimed at developing the capacity of the personnel to train others for Force Protection in a complex environment. The training is a continuation of the NAF’s efforts at strengthening its Base Defence system to be able to respond to a wide range of situations that might threaten NAF Bases across the country. It would be recalled that the NAF only recently held a Base Defence Retreat and commissioned an electronic shooting range as well as the newly built Regiment Training Centre in Kaduna, in preparation for the commencement of the BMATT organized training.
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was represented by the Air Officer Commanding, Training Command, Air Vice Marshal Christopher Okoye, urged the selected personnel to take full advantage of the programme. He added that they were the pioneering students, who would in turn be involved in the training of other NAF personnel from the Regiment Specialty. He equally restated the commitment of the Service to capacity building, as indicated in the training facilities, which the NAF had just upgraded to enhance effective learning. The CAS then commended the BMATT Team for their partnership towards the training of NAF Regiment personnel and accordingly reiterated that the NAF would continue to support the BMATT organized training programme. The NAF collaboration with BMATT, which commenced in 2016, is for 5 years and had so far resulted in the training of 656 personnel.
The BMATT programme was designed as a six-week exercise that would run concurrently with the Basic Regiment Airmen’s Course. A total of 66 instructors from BMATT would be involved in the training programme.

TOLARAM SUPPORTS NAF HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS TOWARDS IDPs IN THE NORTH EAST

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) humanitarian efforts in the North East recently received a boost when Tolaram Africa Enterprise donated 4,000 cartons of Indomie Noodles worth over 10 million naira for onward transfer to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The donation was presented by the Chief Executive Officer of the Company, Mr Deepak Singhal, while on a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar at Headquarters, NAF Abuja on 5 June 2017. The company noted with great interest, the remarkable support and intervention of the NAF to the IDPs, especially in the area of nutritional needs. The Chief Executive Officer disclosed that the company, having recognized the efforts of the NAF in alleviating the plights of the IDPs in the North East, had decided to identify with the remarkable contributions.
According to Mr Singhal, businesses and other human activities could only thrive in a peaceful and secured environment. He therefore commended the efforts of the NAF, in collaboration with other security agencies, in ensuring a safe and secured environment for all investors in the country. “The leadership of the Nigerian Air Force under the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar is doing a fantastic job. It is therefore important for us as a company and beneficiary of the dividends of the security to proudly identify with the NAF by giving our support towards the success of its humanitarian objectives in the northeast,” he said.
Receiving the donated items on behalf of the NAF, the Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal James Gbum, who represented the CAS at the occasion, thanked the management of Tolaram Enterprise for identifying with the NAF humanitarian efforts at ameliorating the suffering of the IDPs. He assured the company that the items would be conveyed to the beneficiaries immediately. AVM Gbum further stated that the NAF would continue to identify with the IDPs through its humanitarian intervention which he said was also instrumental to the successful prosecution of the war against insurgents. One recalls that the NAF, in October 2016, launched the quarterly personnel voluntary contribution in support of the Federal Government efforts to rehabilitate the IDPs. Previous humanitarian efforts by the NAF also included the establishment of Level-2 hospitals in Dalori and Bama respectively as well as the regular conduct of medical outreaches for IDPs.
