Supported. Where you realise that you have a conflict, simply step aside or have someone else do this.

We all know we have biases and I totally understand the moral part the OP is trying to make but what OP does not realise is that, this is NEPOTISM. Nepotism is also a form of CORRUPTION.

Just to emphasise, nepotism is "the practice among those with power or influence of favouring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs".

The irony or negative consequences of such actions is that the candidate's future performance or character can rub off on you or affect productivity later.

Not emotional at all, the devil u know is strongly better than the unknown one. Fine, the rest may actually have certifications but lack good characters. I should be able to pick such persons over many people with physical certifications.

Would you quote all these to The Guardian too?

corruption & favouritism this is why Nigeria won't grow,u recommended him becos u knew him u even used 30mins to gist with him and just 5mins to discuss wat he came for do u even know if there was another person that would have been perfect for that job position?? no becos u knew him so he'd be the perfect one
I strongly believe the man must have been known to be of good characters, that warrants such a long chat with the interviewer. As long as the applicant was not his family member, I don't see any biased act therein. Certifications acquisition and experience having in Nigeria are acquired by those with financial privileges and these do not guarantee performance at work.

Just imagine....being a professional doesn't mean you should be heartless or emotionless.

People like you are robotic and that is infact very unprofessional in things like this.

To the OP you did well but you insinuated that you did it because he was good or in peace with whereas if he wasn't that should've been the more reason why you needed to do it except you want to be like him if he wasn't good.

Do every good thing that you have the opportunity to do to someone because there's always an evil or good you can do in every situation. Both got their reward!
Lol, do you know if the ex teacher the op helped didn't help another person in situation like this?

But if someone press button for you or yyour family member to get a job in a high paying dept or coy, you would not call it Nepotism again ba?
He did not give the man a job because he kniws him alone. Hr has had an opportunity to be taught by that man. The man has years of experience, the man is good at his job too in his opinion so he decided to go with the person he KNOWS and can do the job right based on personal experience. He could have as well put his neighbours sister or his own relative there if he just wanted to help someone but he did not.

Why are you so naive in reasoning and bringing politics into this?

It seems you are from another planet using politics scenario as if you don't understand how the political system is being manipulated in the world, especially Nigeria. "Omo wa ni, e je o se..." :::-How can you justify morality when you used the words of a personality who on the basis of religion wiped out innocents to condemn the act of helping humanity. Can you say a killer is better than a helper of destiny in hard times without recourse to humanity? UDF legacies are "hunting" Nigerians till today. The born to rule mentality, the education is haram prevalence, the almajiri syndrome are some of the aftermaths of UDF destructive invasion.

Lame comparison: Donald Trump employed those as his own special advisers; not state advisers or anything. the OP did not establish his own company, using another person's company to return personal favor is wrong. Did you read where he wrote that the others shortlisted for the job had certifications which his teacher did not have? You guys are just shutting your mind from the truth and shouting god this god that upandan. Its evident that the only place morality is thought is from the churches, and so far, I can see that your pastors are doing a lousy job indoctrinating you with silly ideas of divine connection instead of reward for excellence.

I am really afraid for the future generation. Please let none of you cry foul if CBN does a back-door recruitment because those recruited are 'divinely' connected and 'favored' of God. Wait for your own divine connection and Godly favor.
special advisers not state advisers like seriously? Who pays the special advisers? Is it trump or tax payers money? Are special advisers not paid by the state to shape the president policy? Can u call that private work? I think your understanding of what special advisers are is quite myopic.... In job recruitment there is what we call minimum requirements, so if B.sc is the minimum requirements and then another person come with M.sc it doesn't mean he gets the job simply because he comes with M.sc get that into your dumb skull

Its obvious that life is a cycle.
There was this job vacancy in my place of work and 8 people did apply for it which they were to be interviewed yesterday.

By privilege as an Admin/Acct Officer I was authorized by my HR who was engaged in a crucial meeting to conduct the interview on his behalf so far I know what the company requires.

Lo and behold among them was my secondary school Teacher who did teaching practice (TP) when I was in SS1.

We were both shocked when we saw each other, looking at each other, I smiled and said Sir kindly have a seat.

We gist for 30mnts then I used 5mnts to ask him where he worked before now, that's all.

Meanwhile, I recommended him OK for the job and asked him to come and start work tomorrow.

It is good to live peacefully with all men as you may not know where your turning table will stop next.
The question is, was that a dishonesty for me to have picked him as there were 2 people who had professional certification ahead of him?

Nairalanders over to you!

Lesson to be learnt: Be good to all men; seeds sown today will become trees tomorrow!
