Bafana Update: Team Arrives In Nigeria

Bafana Bafana arrived in Nigeria last night, where they will continue preparations ahead of their Africa Cup Of Nations qualifier on Saturday.

The South African national team will lock horns with Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, June 10, in the opening encounter of the AFCON qualifiers.

The South African Football Association’s president, Danny Jordaan, is confident that a good performance by Bafana on Saturday will set the tone for the rest of the country’s upcoming fixtures, the Chan and 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“We need to qualify for Cameroon in 2019 and FIFA World Cup in Russia next year. We have a massive year ahead of us and a good showing in Uyo on Saturday would set the tone for the rest of this demanding year,” Jordaan said on SAFA’s official website.

Head Coach Stuart Baxter also added that he is eager to frustrate the Nigerian side on Saturday, saying that his side respects the Super Eagles but ‘don’t fear anyone’.

“We need to guard against them going at us in the opening minutes. If we manage to frustrate them, the crowd would become restless and that would be a big starting point,” Baxter said.

“Respect yes, but we don’t fear anyone. I believe the secret to having a good result on Saturday would be to do things collectively; attack and defend as a unit.”

Yea my man sweet memories.Keshi remained d best CB to come out of Nigeria,highest scoring Nigeria defender even than great Kanu Nwankwo when it comes to goal ratio.

The strike against Senegal was damn fantastic,it was a good laid pass from Friday Ekpo that found Keshi in d box and he wasted no time in rocketing d ball into d net.

Also Keshi thunderbolt strike against Angola in Luanda was damn too sweet.I remember Angola was leading with two goals but Ademola Adeshina cancelled one for Nigeria and Keshi made it 2-2 with a wonderful goal.

Big boss remained one of d best player to come out of Africa especially Nigeria.Keshi was d first Nigerian to ever played in any European cup final Anderlecht vs Sampdoria though Anderlecht lost d match with two goal nothing courtesy of great Vialli.

I just tire.

Against Zambia we scored in the 32 and 42nd minutes and against Algeria in the first half we scored 25 and 42 minutes. That cannot be regarded as early goals by any stretch of definition of the word. My concern though is not when we score (because we generally do score and that's what matters) but the slow build up play and complacency that sets in when we are winning. Of course tiredness and fatigue can take its toll but I presume that as one who has followed Nigerian football for long it's hardly deniable that we get complacent most times.

Former Super goalkeeper and captain Vincent Enyeama stormed the camp of the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Uyo, where they are presently preparing for their AFCON 2019 Qualifiers clash against South Africa.

Enyeama who retired from the team after a row with former coach Sunday Oliseh showed up at the camp of the team around 7pm, and held talks with coach Gernot Rohr and also some of the players.

He has been heavily linked with a return to the team, although the goalkeeper and Rohr have disagreed on plans of his return in recent time.

However his presence at the camp of the team lifted the spirit of the players especially the players who have not seen the Lille shot stopper in a while.

Based on the Super Eagles last two training sessions, allnigeriasoccer.com's expert on ground in Uyo can report that Hapoel Beer Sheva's John Ogu is battling CD Feirense's Oghenekaro Etebo for the last spot in midfield, ahead of the African Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa.

But Ikeme does excellent for us in the goalposts. I pray Enyeama returns. I really pray. Dude is a good guy. I wasn't happy the way he was hounded out of the team. He should return and leave with good memories cos he's given so much.
