So Nigerians should expect their kids to enjoy something similar to their Kenyan counterparts, no need for books. That is if Adebayo Shittu is not on a mission to defraud Nigerians.

well,....... maybe u should look at the advantages too.......

http://www.abuja-ng.com/centenary-city-abuja.html
I've looked at the advantages, it honestly doesn't impress me one bit. Why can they just turn Abuja into the smart city. Abuja CBD is not even yet completed and they are thinking of building another one. They can pretty much implement all that effort into Abuja. If the government have that much money to spend, isn't it more viable to invest that money into things that the whole nation can benefit from like education, health, and manufacturing. The smart city aspect can be well adapted to Abuja as it is, not build another artificial city. There are a lot of already existing cities who are taking the smart city approach: Amsterdam, San Francisco, and Stockholm are just a few examples.

Hey hey, keep your shirt on,Hbuyosh. We are not fighting. But facts are facts. Here's the link on your idle refinery and who owned what until the indians pulled out.http://m.engineeringnews.co.za/article/kenya-refinery-2016-07-25 And yes,klm owned 26% of kenyan airline when it was privatized making it the largest shareholder until kenya govt built its share up from 23% to 29%later. https://en.wikipedia-org/wiki/Kenya_Airways. That airline makes heavy losses year after year.Africa needs to wake up.I only replied you because apart from ThunderingHooves, you are the only kenyan here who is sane and not high on qat.

But KPRL is a Kenyan govt owned Corp., the Indian owned company, Essar bought 50% shares in 2009, while the govt owned the rest of the shares.
I hate this baseless insinuation that everuthing in Kenya is foreign owned. Having foreign investors in the country doesnt mean that they run the country.

http://www.kprl.co.ke/profile.php

On Kenya Airways, KLM has never ever been the majority shareholder in that company. Show me in thst article where that is even stated.

Klm is the minority shareholder, the govt owns about 30% of the company while the the local investors, the private citizens like u and me, own the rest. The company is listed in the bourse.

While u were stating that the Klm used to own the majority shares till the govt "built its share up" to 29% (how?), did u wonder who owns the remaining 45% shares?

So, Kenya, as a country, owns the company by 74%!

An architect friend told me that his major quarrel with the stations was that they should have been a major input by kenyan architects in the design. There is so much that could have been done in regards to the sharp features and industrial looks. I mean for once, even African themed and oriented designs would have been ideal, but i guess contracts are contracts. I never miss Adeola's rants, she is just one hilarious lady.

Hati13, the trains will switch to electricity after 4 years, but for now they have to run on diesel. The transmission lines to run these trains can be almost as expensive as the whole train project itself, if not more. Good to have internet back in Ethiopia, let's help anglophone Cameroonians get theirs back too by following the Twitter hashtag #BringOurInternetBack. Am sick of African dictators! Shikena!

He doesn't want to hear that part where chama mamas and duka shopkeepers in Kenya own 30%. He doesn't understand composite ownership of assets and liabilities, and how that spreads risks and increases accountability and profits including doing things like reporting your annual balance sheet in the local dailies. If you only knew how the percentages that major auto makers in Japan own each other, you would shut up!

Your grievance is completely misplaced.

Abuja has every potential in displacing Lagos as the economic capital of Nigeria. But it just cannot happen overnight. Lagos was capital of Nigeria for 65 years. Abuja has not been capital for up to half that period.

You wanted the federal govt to continue investing in Lagos or what? I don't understand you.
Don't be too hasty to judge the viability of centenary city. Wait until it has been achieved and see if it will not boost Abuja economy.
*No, my reaction is not misplaced.

Age is not the main factor in economic development.
New York city was the capital of the US for just 5 years (1785-1790) until a new capital, Washington was drafted and planned becoming the capital from 1790 till present day, which is more than 200 years so far now. But you know what, even with that age, New York is still the commercial and financial capital of the US till today.

This case is very similar to Abuja. Abuja like Washington was founded as the administrative capital, and not as an economic capital. Lagos was established as a port due to access to the sea, similarly to New York which helped manufacturing and commerce grow. Although with some exceptions, artificial cities a lot of the time lack multi-economic purpose.

Why did I say this? A lot of the large cities we see in the world today have multi-economic functions. Lagos, New York, Tokyo, Sydney etc all have large ports for shipping, trade, industries, etc. Even cities that are landlocked like Johannesburg developed due to their economic platform like mining which created industries, finance, and later on tourism. What economic platform does Abuja serves? Abuja was not created to become the economic hub of Nigeria, it was founded for administrative purpose like Washington, Brasilia, Ottawa, Canberra etc. Today these cities are not the largest or the economic hub of their respective countries. There are of course notable exceptions like Dubai. Dubai even though artificially created, has many functions. It was created as an economic hub (financial and commercial hub) and not with an administrative role. That is why Dubai is not the capital of the UAE and Abu Dhabi is. Dubai as an artificial city especially in its grandiose nature created the identity which boosts its tourism.

Ok, as an investor, what niche will attract me to invest in Abuja as opposed to Lagos? What is Abuja known for?

I want the federal govt to continuing investing in Lagos?
I do not understand the nature of this question. When the federal gov was developing Abuja, so much money was consumed in development than Lagos. Lagos actually had decades of neglect following its glory days. It's not until recently that the state government started implementing
a master plan by creating different initiatives to drive growth and development.

No, electrification will be done after four years once the whole project is complete. We are also waiting for your Grand Renaissance Dam because powering all those kilometres of rail requires a lot of power.

It is a stark irony, that they should brag how Nigeria is such a major foreign investments hub, yet mock other countries' economies as foreign controlled on account of the foreign investors owning shares in the local companies.

I know he didnt realize that ordinary Kenyans own shares at the companies like Kenya Airways, he must have assumed that it is only by the the Klm, the external investor, and the govt.

That first question only ladies like you (and Nowenuse) can answer cheesy There are many handsome Kenyan men, but of course depending on tastes. Such things are very subjective. The second guy is called Omar Hamza, he's an actor and I think hes from the coast I think he is Swahili from the name. If you like him you might also like this DJ known as Jamal Gaddafi from the coast too, he kills kenyan girls. He's Swahili too

Hahaha, So does this means that Kenyan muslims are more good looking than Kenyan christians? Cos yaah this Jamal Gaddafi of a guy looks very cute. Him and Omar Hamza look cuter than all the other Kenyan guys we have posted (except for Kevin Owiti) smiley which ethnic group is Owiti of if i may ask?

****N another thing is that these Kenyan swahili guys look so much like Nigerian igbo guys. Striking resemblance of handsomeness shocked. Take this Jamal Gaddafi for instance n compare him with this 1st picture of Nigerian Nnamdi Asomugha n see the striking resemblance! Only that the Nigerian is older n darker smiley

See other random Igbo Nigerian guys below. They can boast some or most of the handsome men in Nigeria, they also tend to me more muscular on average than other Nigerians.
