I think you should have gotten used to it by now But if its as bad sd you claim. Remove all fear in you and Just talk to him in a very polite manner. You should have been dropping hints since. Or ask your mother or a respected elder to help you if the first option fails Dont stop until you reach a concensus DY20: Hi Nairalanders!
"My dad talks too much" and by saying too much I did not mean he's crazy or something, I mean he talks sensible thing for an absurd long period of time.
Let me use 5 out of million of scenario to define my case.
1. Anytime the family is complete inside the house, and everyone is quiet; busy with something, I browsing on my phone, my little brother playing video game, my sister using beads, mum watching TV and my dad? Talking. When it is very obvious that no one cares to listen, he continue talking.
2. If any of my friends came to visit me, they will become my dad's guest. From the very first moment they say "Good morning" to him, he started talking, asking them questions, essp about their work, school, and talking about his own life too. Like what is happening now, I can see awkward smile on their face as they listen but just don't want to walk away leaving him embarrassed.
3. One day, I was chatting with girlfriend till late in the night, he woke up and say a light in the male children's room, he came in and started accusing me of internet fraud. We talked and talked till we settle it at dawn. From 2 to 4.30. In the morning, my dad started the topic with my mum again.
4. He talks every seconds when he is in the house or when anyone is with him.
5. He make anyone he saw with me (or any of my siblings) to introduce themselves. Indoor or outdoor.
I don't usually talk about my family affair with people but nobody knows me here or my dad.
I just want to know how to handle situation like this because I've started thinking of leaving the house. Maybe I'll learn to accept him when I don't see him everyday.
See? He is starting already... continues to talk when I'm not even looking at him. |

My experience in life has shown be that those who complain most about their parents most time end up like them. Be careful, you might have developed you daddy's traits. What you cant change, you pray for strength to endure. You sure don't think you can change your dad now. 1 Like |

It must be his personality. You should know that by now. I'm sure your mom does and loves him just the way he is. Embrace and accept him. Appreciate your parents while they're still here. Just smile everytime he's being talkative. 1 Like |

Ishilove: I don't see what the problem is... He's your father. If you are not used to him by now then when will you be used to him? Is it when he has gone to a place where you can't reach him?
If you feel embarrassed about how he relates with your friends then keep them away from your home. Simple.
Some have shoes, but have no legs, some have legs, but have no shoes. Meanwhile those that have legs and shoes are complaining about the shoes.
Enjoy him while you can because there are many out there who will give almost anything to have a father. He's still a kid. A time will come when he'll understand that a dad is like a roof over any young man's head even when he's bedridden. 4 Likes |

See? He is starting already... continues to talk when I'm not even looking at him. Its very easy to deal with a garrulous person , just don't argue or engage in the conversation; always ignore , pay no attention or just walk away . Or you can take the high road and be bluntly honest with the person , tell him that he talks too much . If you approach this in a calm and mild manner , you may not get the desired results . A stern confrontation works best because of the shame and mortification that accompanies it - it calls for sober reflection . He's gona resent you for acting the way you did , but keep your distance physically and emotionally till the 'wound' heals for best results . You can win back his love through gifts and hearty good morning texts . 2 Likes |

I will give anything to hear my father talk again.
OP
Just imagine that one day, your father that talks too much had a stroke and he wasn't talking anymore. Days past, weeks past and months past but he still wasn't able to talk. Bro, you will be the one wishing he could start rapping like Bone thugs.
Don't wish for what you can't handle, I am talking from experience. This your father that you insult for talking too much, one day, you will need him to even say one word but he can't or he would not be there and do you know what you will do? You will cry and weep like a baby.
You have 24 hrs in a day, spend at least 2 hours in talking to father. Make your father feel special, he deserves it. Your own time will come and will wish your children could talk to you. 2 Likes |

I think your dad is very much extroverted, and his family isn't giving him enough attention. That probably is why he looks for every opportunity to get you to talk, even if it means unnecessary accusations. He needs friends. Once in a while, take the initiative and reach out to him. He is your father. 1 Like |

Ginaz:
He wasn't just a grandfather to me, he took up the father role when my dad was no where to be found. And cos of it I never lacked a father figure in my life, he named me, raised me and he was the one who taught me how to read and write. Every Sunday he would read to me the book of Bible story, till I was out of junior secondary school he kept reading.
A week before he died he begged me to come live with him but cos of his overbearing talks I refused. The day he died all I could remember was him begging for me to come stay with him for a week. I took him for granted, I should have stayed if I knew that was the last time I would see him. The feelings of regret I went through I won't wish it on anyone....it was soul breaking.
He was the best but a talker, even worst than the o.p's father.
I wish I could bring him back to life and tell him I love him, I never told him that.
very touching this thing I want to share I hope it's true life, make this story no be deceiving story...o |

then when ever he is at it again, just say "daddy! !!" , he'll code and stop.
