Another nice info that has bothered me since the appointment of Coach Rohr. His back room staffs from Nigeria. Most especially Alloy Agu and Salisu Yusuf. Rohr needs a tactician to work with him. Mourinho had Villas-Boas, Benitez had Pako Ayesteran, Rijkaard had Henk Ten Cate, Ancelotti had Paul Clemens etc.

My pick is Emmanuel Amunike because of his modern methods fits the pattern I feel Rohr intends for the team. With ball playing/passing defensive set up (including the defensive midfielder). Amunike actually played under such system and always coaches his team to play that way.

Although Siasia plays a similar brand of football, I am more comfortable with Amunike.

Rohr needed a simple advice. Iheanacho is making the runs when the pass is hit and always ahead of the defenders. We need someone in the hole to give him more accurate passes and we will tear the South Africans apart.

If we are maintaining the same formation, either Etebo or Onazi leaves (preferably Onazi),Etebo takes a deeper role and Iwobi takes the attack midfield position. Musa comes in for Onazi. We would have been stronger with the set up.

Iheanacho: Struggling to live up to his billing

Isaac Success was Nigeria ’s star man when the Golden Eaglets arrived in the United Arab Emirates for the 2013 FIFA Under - 17 World Cup .
Prior to the trip to the UAE , Nigeria had won the title thrice — 1985 , 1993 , 2007 — and Success was the striker the Eaglets were relying on to win their fourth title .
But Kelechi Iheanacho , who played as a support striker during the qualifiers , snatched the spotlight from Success when Nigeria opened their campaign with a 6 - 1 defeat of Mexico at the Bin Zayed Stadium.
Iheanacho scored four goals in the encounter with Chidiebere Nwakali and Success scoring a goal apiece .
Following an injury blow , Success ended the tournament won by Nigeria with two goals to his name while the unheralded Iheanacho netted six times to emerge as the second highest goalscorer behind Sweden forward Valmir Berisha, who scored seven goals to win the championship ’ s Golden Boot.
Iheanacho won the Golden Ball as he was the tournament ’s best player , while Success, who struggled to get playing time at modest Premier League outfit Watford last season , returned to Nigeria to nurse his injury.
Iheanacho sparked interest from a number of European clubs following his impressive display at UAE 2013 .
It was no surprise that the Taye Academy attacker , who was 16 then, was linked with European powerhouses Manchester United , Barcelona , Real Madrid, Arsenal , Chelsea and Bayern Munich .
But Chilean manager Manuel Pellegrini, who was the then Manchester City coach worked hard behind the scenes to land the Nigerian in 2014 .
Iheanacho broke into Manchester City ’ s first team the following year and ended the 2015 / 2016 with 14 goals in all competitions .
Breaking into the star - studded Manchester City squad meant the young striker had a ‘ divine right ’ to play for the Super Eagles .
He made his international debut as a substitute in the 0 - 0 draw against Swaziland in a Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifier before grabbing his first start in the Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt last year. The encounter ended 1 - 1 .
With the player replicating his performances at club level for the national team , he has since cemented his place in the Eagles , becoming an important player for the side .
His goal helped Nigeria defeat Tanzania 1 - 0 in a Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Uyo on September 3 , 2016 and progressed to score the Eagles ’ second goal in their Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier against Zambia in Ndola on October 9 , 2016 .
The 20 - year- old never wished to burst his bubble but the coming of Pep Guardiola from Bayern Munich to some extent did just that .
Iheanacho struggled to secure regular playing time last season after falling down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium, with Guardiola preferring Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus .
The two South American strikers fitted into the Citizens manager’ s high intensity pressing game last season. Although the Nigerian is arguably as gifted as Aguero and Jesus , he seems to lack the consistency and power to put defences under pressure and force them to make mistakes .
Iheanacho started only five Premier League games in 20 appearances — scoring four goals .
Although Brazilian Jesus missed a large spell of last season with a broken metatarsal, he scored seven league goals in 10 appearances . Argentina striker Aguero scored 20 league goals in 25 starts and 31 appearances .
Iheanacho is being linked with a move to Premier League mid - table teams Crystal Palace and West Ham after being deemed surplus to requirements at English powerhouse Manchester City .
But the player , who was tipped to become the next big thing after Lionel Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo following his head- turning performances in the Premier League last year, is now struggling to resolve his Manchester City future . He also faces a huge task to convince one of the European big boys that he is still good enough to play at the top level.
Iheanacho had a bad day at the office when the Eagles were disgraced 2 - 0 by their bitter rivals South Africa ’ s Bafana Bafana in Uyo on Saturday . He was a pale shadow of himself before Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr substituted him in the second half .
Former Nigeria captain Henry Nwosu believes the player is being played out of position at both club and the national team , hence his current struggles .
“ Iheanacho is not a top striker but a support striker and a midfielder , ” the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner told our correspondent on the telephone on Monday .
“ I think he is finding it difficult to adapt to his role as a top striker at Man City and the national team
“ Aguero and Jesus are ahead of him at Man City because they are playing their natural roles . ”
Nwosu added , “ If Iheanacho decides to leave Man City for a club he will be playing regularly , I will support his decision. ”

Yet again another journo says he had a bad game. But what do I know, the whole world is wrong and TheGoodJoe is right.

I was one of those in the earlier days that kicked against Iheanacho being made a CF. But then Ighalo was still in the spotlight.

But ever since Ighalo fiddled out I have come to agree that Iheanacho should be our main striker.

Why?

He is our most lethal striker. And we all know that.
We know what Iheanacho can do when he is in position with the ball.

Who should have been played as a lone striker in that SA game? Kayode or Osimhen?

Iheanacho for now until another top striker springs up will always get the nod as our preferred striker.

And very importantly I think we are expecting too much from the young lad. Recall he is just 20 and is still learning the ropes with each passing game.
I know a lot of us here (from arguments past) do not agree that age is a factor in football. But it surely is.
iheanacho IS NOT THERE YET. in the absence of another top striker let's give him time.

I think we should get over our mindset that good players cannot be found outside the major leagues. This assumption will hurt us real bad in the long run.

I understand we want to brag that our first 11 are all big players from big leagues but without putting into cognisance the balance of the team and formation being implemented by the coach.
Where I'm going in all of these is that guys like Adi, Ideye and Nwakaeme will suit a lone striker system better than Kelechi. But it appears we don't want to hear those names because they aren't in the big leagues. The minute Adi or Nwakaeme gets a contract with a Seria A club, they will be called up. That can't be right.

Some of us kicked against the invitation of Osimhen ahead of the Adi and co. With the benefit of hindsight, one could argue that Nwakaeme, Adi or Ideye would have posed the South Africans a bigger problem with their hold up play.

The South Africans hate playing against bigger opponents. Recall it was these same SA defenders and goalkeeper Uche Nwofor took to the cleaners in their back yard with a brace. He even scored khune with his back heel.

If Kelechi must play, he needs a big strike partner.

My man u are right but do we need to give reason for anybody's poor performance against South Africa. If we are trying to give reason for Nacho poor performance and bad conduct after substitution then we must give reason for Akpeyi poor performance to defence!abi what do u think, honestly enough of comments trying to shed any player from blame. The whole team was a disaster, mehn losing at home, two goals against South Africa.Imagine some are even pointing accusing fingers at Nigerian assistants not even Rohr for God sake.

My man our eyes w soon clear against Cameroon if Rohr failed to do d needful, imagine a Porto B defender starting up in Super Eagles line up and some are still expecting Alampasu a rookie and third division goalkeeper to manned d post for Eagles.

Honestly our player invitation should be review coz i don't see any reason inviting Ndidi,Onazi,Agu all DM and left Ogu out of d squad especially in d absence of Mikel Obi.Do we think Etebo can do d job?capital No,he lacked d class.

We need to ask Rohr one big question, what really stopped him from inviting Ideye to camp coz seeing Ideye,Mikel and Nacho build up towards Nacho goal against Zambia shows that pairing of d duo w suit eagles, though against Algeria Ideye was on d bench but we have Moses Victor on d field doing it with Nacho.

Rohr should not be deceived about all this rookies,it is only talented ones that can break into d team and gel not average ones like Awaziem,Ebuehi even talented Iwobi is not finding it funny.

I just hope Ikeme,Mikel,Moses,Balogun make d party against Cameroon even Ideye and a fit Anichebe coz am seeing physical and brutal Cameroon side.

Forget Iheanacho... Ex-Super Eagles Coach Gives NFF One Last Chance To Grab Genuine No 9 Ohi
Ex-Super Eagles coach Lars Lagerbäck did his former employers, the Nigeria Football Federation, a big favour when he did not hand a debut to former Manchester City trialist Ohi Omoijuanfo in Norway's 1-1 draw with Czech Republic in a World Cup qualifier last weekend.

Assuming Ohi, who wore the number seven jersey on the bench, figured against the Czechs in Oslo, he would have become cap-tied to his country of birth Norway.

The window is still open for the Stabæk frontman to represent the Super Eagles and he has refused to rule out the possibility.

''Hey, hey. Yes, that means so,'' Omoijuanfo told Nettavisen when asked about the possibility of playing for Nigeria.

He added : ''I do not think I was far from getting my debut against the Czech Republic either, but an early injury to Reginiussen meant that we had to make an early swap.

'If we had had three changes to the end, I'm pretty sure I'd also gotten a debut.''

With Lars Lagerback expected to make some changes in Tuesday's friendly against Sweden, everything indicates that Omoijuanfo will make his senior debut for the Norwegian national team.

Absolutely right if Nacho must play,he needs a partner who understand d game not only good partner but perfect midfield combination of Ndidi,Ogu and Mikel Obi coz we need big men who w shed d defence and yet assist d attacks, not running around midfielders busy doing nothing as we played against South African.

Continue talking Porto B as ofthat wwas the problem. Continue talking Nacho had a problem. At the end, our problem came from Akpeyi who failed to save a ball close to him, Onazi and Echiejile who gave loads of gaps. Onazi who wasted good chances to put Iheanacho through on goal.

We can run away from the truth but that was the problem. The so called experience players. We have been winning games. One loss and everyone wants to go back to the old way.

I do not know where you got the idea of Amunike's love for money costing the team. We lost after per organization of the game took away our potent strength of playing a beautiful passing possessive game. The pitch was bad and the NFF handlers messed up their bonuses and rewards. Not Amunike's fault.

Iheanacho did not get any quality service. All the final balls were extremely poor. Too poor for even Academy player. So Iheanacho does not deserve the blame.

Youngest-Ever Nigerian To Play In Premier League Confirms Liverpool, Arsenal Interest
Liverpool are among the Premier League teams interested in signing Sweden U21 international of Nigerian descent Joel Asoro in the summer transfer window.

The Sunderland Echo claims Southampton, Everton and Liverpool are all looking at Asoro, but it is Arsenal who are in pole position to snap him up from Sunderland.

Reacting to reports linking him with a move to these teams, Asoro told Fotbollskanalen : ''It's crazy. I've heard that the clubs are interested, but then they do not know if it's more than that.

''It is clear that it is always fun that teams like Arsenal show interest. It raises self-esteem, but I can not run around and think about it now.

''I'm in the Euro and maybe there would have been another thing if I had been in England. Now I'm here and try to think about it.''

Asoro became the youngest player of Nigerian descent to feature in the Premier League when he came off the bench against Middlesbrough in August 2016, aged 17 years and 117 days.

On this one, you claimed Guardiola wants his forward to aid in build up play, that's what he's drilling Kelechi on.
Saturday came, Kelechi never dropped and aided the build up play. Instead you manufactured am excuse that it was the midfielders who was at fault. All these somersault just to prove that Kelechi had a good game.
The same game Baxter said our front line was blunt, same game, Kelechi kicked himself for having a poor game, same game Kelechi didnt have a shot on target or even off target? The less said about his hold up game, the better.
Yet you find an excuse to exonerate him.

Please stop this. The striker drops deep to help build up play. In this case, build up was not a problem. Is that too hard to understand? If build up is right, then the player must be in position for the pass.

In what you are quoting, did you not see help in build up? If the build up is okay, does it need help to you?

Haaaaa.

Go and watch the game and see Iheanacho's runs when the overhit passes happened.

On this one, you claimed Guardiola's drills will help him improve. Citing the way Sanchez drops deep, presses and helps in the teams build up play.
Which of these attributes did Kelechi bring to the table on Saturday?
Instead, the classic TheGoodJoe manufactures a defence for Kelechi. Claiming passes were not coming through for him. What happens to dropping deep and aiding the build up play? It doesn't apply to this situation?

Please learn to make objective inputs than throwing fake points. The build up was good. The final balls were poor. What else do you need to make an objective contribution?

West Ham Readying Second Bid For Arsenal Linked Striker Henry, Remain In The Hunt For Kelechi
Premier League side West Ham are preparing a second bid for in-demand Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru.

A seven million pounds bid from the Hammers was rejected outright as it failed to meet Eupen's asking price, but the London Stadium outfit remain keen on the youngster.

''West Ham are going to put in a second bid for Henry Onyekuru, they will also bid for Kelechi,'' a top source told allnigeriasoccer.com.

''The first bid was rejected because Eupen believe he is worth more money, but West Ham are very keen on Henry.''

Onyekuru, 20, has yet to make his competitive debut for the Nigerian national team, therefore, interested Premier League teams must pay a hefty fee otherwise he won't be issued a work permit in England.

Arsenal, Newcastle United and Swansea City are believed to be monitoring the situation of Onyekuru with a view to a transfer in the summer transfer window.

Guardiola To Iheanacho – You Will Leave Man City On One Condition Not Buy-Back Clause

June 13, 2017 Nigeria

IMG_2892
‎Kelechi Iheanacho could remain at Manchester City beyond this summer despite interest in his services from top clubs like West Ham, Everton and Crystal Palace, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

20 year old Iheanacho has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad since Gabriel Jesus ‎became eligible to play for the team as he is now third choice forward with Sergio Kun Aguero ahead of him.

West Ham United agreed a fee with Manchester City for his transfer but disagreements over the fee and duration of a buy back option City wants in the deal held up the proposed move.

From then till now, City have hardened their stand on his possible exit following the frustrations they have suffered in their bid to strengthen their squad in the attack.

” Guardiola is no longer keen on letting him go unless a replacement is signed. As it stands now City only have Jesus and Aguero, considering the amount of games the team will play next season they need more than two strikers”, his intermediary told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” He could yet leave but the club must have his replacement signed before he leaves, he has been told in clear terms and he understands that is why he has said severally that he is staying at the club.
” Iheanacho wants to play but he has a five year deal with Manchester City, so they hold the ace. He is very young and still has a long way to go, even though he wants to move to where he is sure of getting games, City will have the final say”.

Did you see me say Sanchez dropped deep when build up was good? You drop deep to escape markers and help build up play. Iheanacho made good runs because the markers could not hold him. He did not need to drop deep because the passes were coming. What was to get in good position to receive the passes. He did but the passes were overhit. This is too basic and self explanatory.

Galatasaray In Pole Position To Sign Nigeria Olympic Star Imoh Ezekiel Ahead Of Malaga
June 13, 2017 Nigeria

Turkish Super Lig giants Galatasaray are reportedly few details away from signing Imoh Ezekiel from Qatari side Al-Arabi according to reports sourced by Owngoalnigeria.com editorial team.

Ezekiel is reportedly the main target of coach ‎Igor Tudor who according to babaspor has personally requested for the 23 year old who also confirmed his desire to return back to Europe.

Galatasaray have been quoted 3 million euros for the forward who has a year left on his contract with Al-Arabi where he had a fairly good time in his 18 months spell with the team.

The Turkish outfit have so far shown interest in signing him despite the fee demanded by Al-Arabi unlike Spanish La-Liga outfit Malaga who were hoping to land him for a fee in the region of 1 million euros.

Al-Arabi are not keen on holding onto him as they run the risk of losing him on a free by the end of next season when his contract will expire, and Ezekiel has severally voiced his unhappiness in the Oil rich country despite the huge wage he currently earns.

NFF To Rohr – Efe Ambrose Is Still Needed Due To His Experience

June 13, 2017 Nigeria

Super Eagles
Super Eagles shambolic display in defence against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa which lead to the 0-2 loss they suffered has lead to talks about bringing back some of the experienced players in the team.

A member of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in an exclusive chat with Owngoalnigeria.com revealed they have drawn up a list of players who they feel have the experience to guide the young players in the team.

While they accept the decision of coach Gernot Rohr especially in the area of bringing through young talented player, they however want the Franco-German coach of the team to include some experience players in his team.

” Rohr has a plan to not just build the presence but also the future of Nigeria football. But we can’t discard the role of experienced players in the team, what we saw against South Africa showed how vital experience is to a team”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” The players who played in central defence are not bad players but there was no leader among them which caused disorganisation in their ranks. We have suggested players like Efe Ambrose to the coach among others who will then decide if he needs them or not”.

my advice to Rohr is to change formation that will enable us to play with 2 strikers upfront,to partner Iheanacho ,and also try Iheanacho as a supporting striker.

My advice to Iheanacho is patience,

My advice to the fans is to reduce our over expectations ,and over hyping of our young players.

Come on. Amunike saw beyond it but the NFF did not. It is unfair he takes the blame for the callousness of the NFF team. That team deserved better and Nigeria is blessed with a homegrown brilliant tactician like Amunike. We will do ourselves a disfavor if we do not use him and allow quacks run our football.
