Hello guys, I'm about submitting an application for a thesis based masters at MUN starting January, 2018. I already got a supervisor and will be submitting my application anytime soon. My question is how is St John like, are there jobs for graduate students? And how much average can I make from working? I think I should have time to work since my program is research based. Please I need advice from experienced guys here. Thanks. |

Anfieldboss: Boss, You never even apply for admission you don dey reason how area and work be...suo... 1) Cancel that mindset that there is a job waiting for you to come start. Yes, the permit comes with the right to work but e no easy like that to get work. 2)If your programme is research based, there is a very high probability that you wont get the chance to do outside racket because the research will most definitely take your time. So, ensure your supervisor gets you funded, so that if you dont get a job you still have something to live on. 3) (1 ) and (2)above are my opinion. Others might have stuffs to add or counter. 1 Like |

Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by maziude: 2:12pm On Jun 13, 2017 |
Anfieldboss: Oh okay. Na wa. Submit your application, if you have the funds to survive for the first year. But, just have it in mind that getting a job might be difficult but possible. Good luck and Godspeed.. |

Anfieldboss: Aaahhh boss... NOOO, I aint making you scared. I am just telling you to hope for the best. This is one of the reasons VOs reject people (bonafide student stuff). You should not base your application on the premise that you will get a job when you get there. What if you dont get a job, what happens? Remember, you are in competition with other nationals for these same limited jobs. In as much as we all want a job, event happens. Since you are going for a research based masters, focus on your research in the first year and survive...second year will open up opportunities for you depending on the outcome of the first year result. 3 Likes |

@ Anfieldboss: while you get a permit to work does not guarantee 100% job availability. As a student , its about $11 per hour and remember you are to work 20 hrs per week, with an 8 hours work a day, you probably have only 16 hours to work in a week, except you are lucky to get one that is flexible for you to click the 20hrs weekly. For thesis based, not sure you will have that much time for external works Good luck 4 Likes 1 Share |
